I mean, he had to argue after he already got a deal in order to save 50k more and he also threw in there a giveaway watch. He basically robbed that dude in front of the camera and for what? 50k? I don't think 50k is much for this man, may aswell be worth as much as 50$ is to normal people if not less.
@chrisgilligan49684 жыл бұрын
@@MLarios97 He didn't rob anybody. A watch like that is worth what someone is willing to pay for it - and there isn't a very big market for $500K watches. Michael is a collector / investor in watches. He doesn't have a limitless amount of money...he has a considerable portion of his net worth invested in watches. If he doesn't get a good deal he can never expect to turn a profit on this investment. Also that he is flogging Jacob's watches on his channel regularly has to be worth something. Jacob & Co sell a lot of high end stuff - but they sell some more mainstream watches as well....and I'm sure every time he's in a vid he gets more than $50K value of advertising his watches. End of the day - Jacob is a businessman....if he isn't making a profit on the watch at $448K or whatever the final price was - then he wouldn't make the sale. And if he found Michael's haggling rude - then he simply wouldn't invite Michael back.....he's playing it up for the camera - he always had it in him to do 20%. Go to a brick and mortar watch store - without a lot of effort you can easy get 30%+ off the listed prices....often the simple act of trying a watch on and just saying thank you and turning to leave the store will elicit a deep discount.

@Michael-ot9bk4 жыл бұрын
@@paganiluv9552 - There's only two ways to look at a watch. It's either art, or a tool. If you like art then no price is too high because you can't put a price on artistic value (jacob&co is a classic example of this, since they charge literally millions of dollars for glass+plastic) If it's a tool then any watch over $50 dollars is overpriced. 99% of all high end brand watches don't have a justification for purchasing them. You could debate there exists some middle ground if you consider watches that have precious metals/stones in them OR watches that have historical significance/collector value. But other than those cases there aren't many (if any) exceptions to the logic I've laid out. In this day and age there exist replicas for many of the high end brands. Examples of a high end watch that costs $100,000 with an almost exact replica costing only $800 exist in the marketplace. Even with 20x zoom you can't tell the difference between them. Some replicas are so good now that even authorized dealers/resellers can't distinguish real from fake. If China can make a Rolex replica that 99% of the public can't distinguish from the authentic one and they can do it for 100x cheaper, that should clue anyone in to the fact that the entire luxury watch industry is a huge scam. In the end it's just a 2 inch piece of stainless steel with a little bit of paint. Max price should be $10. But $50 I feel is a fair upper limit. #facts.

My questions when I buy a watch. Does it have Bluetooth ? From what height can I drop it ? Is it waterproof ? Does it have dual clock ? Is it Solar powered ? Does it have an automatic calendar ? Can I see the day of the week ? .... Yes ? OK, I just bought myself a nice Casio Edifice EQB-800BR-1A for 350 Euro.

Michael: " Can you do a better deal"... Jacob: "There's not much room on this watch"... ....drops the price over 100k lol.
4 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing but if you can drop 100k off the price it means it really cost Jacob 50k-75k to make. So he made 400k instead of 500k off Michael. Jewelry has the biggest mark up
@Aequitas-mf4fu4 жыл бұрын
meh S of course he still made money off of micheal and who can blame him, but i think he can’t get cheaper marketing than giving 100k and a free watch for and ad like this. He knows there are many people who would consider buying a watch from him if he appears in videos like this and thats the reason why he gave such a discount plus a free watch for a giveaway.
@fez8774 жыл бұрын
@ the material is cheap, the know how is not and can't be measured
@cephasmakuzva4 жыл бұрын
@ he could of gave it free alot of very wealthy people watch micheal Jacob will get sales off this. Every time he goes to Peter Marco and Yossi Dina and Everyday Watches they all say they get sales off these videos so giving a free watch for a video does them a plenty or a discount where they loose money
@evanoneill6194 жыл бұрын
@ jewelry usually has 3xs mark up but when you're making complication watches like this, it becomes subjective. I appreciate art but I wouldn't spend millions on a piece. (A pool with 2 figures) painting by David hockney sold for 90 million or a bit more a few yrs ago. These watches are true works of art for sure. They make rolex look like swatches by way of comparison. I'm not a fan of his "run of the mill" pieces but his complication pieces are fucking incredible!

Z: you guys are probably right that the marketing value is higher than a one off discount but A) giving a huge discount sends the message that the markup is huge ... so perhaps it wasn’t the best strategy in some cases B) not everyone will give Michael a big discount on a 1 piece sale (at least not on camera). Which shows some vendors perhaps don’t believe in this strategy. You could argue they are stupid not to see the marketing value, or you could argue they figure giving one customer a big discount will lead to others feeling they over-paid.

@@toddsullivan596 - He looked at it on a previous vid as well just not in the rose gold....I'm sure he looked at it much longer off camera as well. They probably agreed on the price off camera and that whole haggling thing was for show. Michael has a pretty good sense of the watch market. I'm sure he will keep this one for a little while, and even wear it a couple times, but at the end of the day I'm sure that he believes that the watch will be worth more than his discounted price in the long run. This is an investment piece as much as it is something that he'll get a ton of personal use out of. How many occasions does even a guy like ProducerMichael have to wear a $500K watch??

@@zakariakaddioui1237 dude, I am totally not in the market for an "investment watch". I have 5 watches and the total value for all of them is about $3K....and I'm probably being generous with that assessment. ProducenMichael has well over 100 watches with a value in the vicinity of $10M....I think he's got a pulse on what he likes. Truth be told, I've never seen him do a video where he is selling one of his watches, or trading it in....so maybe he just likes to have a lot of really cool pieces that he wears every once in a while.
