Though it does have a robotic sound to it, I think that can be attributed to syntax, timing, real time conversation (pauses, start/stops, etc.). A fantastic concept when used for the good. I have Parkinson’s Disease and speech loss can happen in time. While I have no issues speaking presently, there could eventually be issues. Very impressed and pleased with this tool.

Consider recording yourself reading the dictionary or the Harvard Sentences (They are phonetically balanced sentences that use specific phonemes at the same frequency they appear in English). This could help you clone your voice in the future if technology advances.

Great! I'm a nurse practitioner with several Parkinson's patients. I try so hard to listen to them when their voice is not much above a whisper. This would certainly cut down on both my patients' frustration and my own.

People are missing the mark of what the use case is here. If I had a loved one who was prone to lose the ability to speak, this feature would allow me to hear them speak in their own voice still. Robotic or not, as you said it will get better with time. Very excited to see where this goes🐬

As someone who’s been totally blind, I have absolutely loved what Apple has done to make their products accessible for people like me. Although I am not losing the ability to speak, it’d be great if Apple added the ability for VoiceOver users like myself to add whatever personal voice they make to the list of voices they want to use. There’s a DJ I’m friends with who’s from the Netherlands, Ferry Corsten. And he has the perfect voice for not only when he does his radio show “Resonation Radio”, but also for reading. He’d be a great candidate for having his voice as a VoiceOver voice.

I have bad news, this feature does not appear to work with VoiceOver, or some other apps that can use text to speech voices to read text aloud, too bad, it really sucks.

Just did it on my Iphone 14, in a few weeks i have a surgery on my vocal cords/throat, during this period i wont be able to speak for 3 weeks. Honestly this feature couldn't of come at a better time!!

I have it set up on my iPhone 12, it’s great…took 3 nights to finish generating my voice. Personal voice does not show up on my IPad Pro 2018…I was hoping to see the voice shared across devices but I’m sure it’s supported on iPad Pro 2018.

I think this will be really useful. Not just if your loosing your voice but families can hear someone who’s passed talking. It will likely become more lifelike overtime! But the idea that we can capture are voice like this to me is incredible!

@@emotionice7967 I found the fix yesterday. Change your region to English (US) including your language. Reset your phone (you may need to rest twice) The option will then appear. Once you’ve selected personal voice, you can change your region back

After my personal voice recording was complete (on iOS 17 public beta), and I turned on live speech, it doesn’t let me select my personal voice. :( It’s not on the list of voices. Restarted phone and still not there. Any ideas?

Had a few questions: 1. Would it be possible for you to create another personal voice in a music studio? I’m guessing that the denoiser is playing a huge part in making the audio sound tinny, as it eliminates certain sound. 2. Would it be possible to speak slower during the setup process? I am guessing that it needs to learn your accent and pronunciation better with slower speech helping out better. 3. In the Shortcuts app, can you add Text to Audio shortcut, then edit it to choose Personal Voice? Usually it’s only possible to choose from preset voices but I wanted to know if the personal voice becomes available too. 4. In iMessage and FaceTime, is it possible to use Personal Voice with Memoji? Would be interesting if they allow for that to happen. It’s a lot to ask for though I’m genuinely quite curious about personal voice as a feature. Thanks!

Like mentioned pretty much everywhere this feature is covered, it's an accessibility feature to assist people who either face a high potential of losing their voice to sort of having it preserved so if or when the eventuality of their voice no longer be useable does happen due to medical conditions like ALS causing them to lose their voice or having their speech severely affected, at least this feature could help in some way to give a chance for those people to still be audible to their loved ones. That's like a second chance for them to be heard if I can say it that way. Also, for completely healthy people, this could be handy for the exact similar reasoning. You can never tell if you'll still have your voice minutes from now, let alone tomorrow or even further forward. So this feature allows you to be ready to face the possibility of your voice going away a little better.

If you had an early diagnosis of ALS or MS you could prepare by training your phone to speak for you. Before the symptoms have progressed so far you couldn't speak clearly or at all any more. If you had done this preemptively, even if you suddenly had a stroke or Bell's Palsy you would be prepared to speak for yourself using this technology.

I can tell you something because I actually used an iPad Pro to set a personal voice, but it said it will take 15 to 30 minutes instead of one hour so technically I think it might depend on your device for how long it takes

I think the best way to demonstrate how it sounds relative to your voice is to record the same phrases with the Voice Memo and compare it to what Live Voice generates. Playing sound through your iPhone speaker and trying to compare it to your voice recorded directly through the mic does not match.

The feature officially came out today. It worked just as you showed. But so far I cannot get it to do anything particularly useful like change Siri's voice to my own (Siri may not want you to do that but I don't know why), or allow other apps to access it. In the Preferences / Personal Voice pane, there's a way to "add apps", but the "+" button is greyed out so I can't grant permission to any apps to use it. I also tried sharing a personal voice with another computer, but that didn't work either, and I'm not sure why. So right now this feature is about 90% useless for me and not working. But I'm hopeful Apple will make it work eventually or someone like you will show us how to fix these problems.

I am on the public beta, have created my personal voice, can see it there and can make a second one now if I want to. But switch over to the Live Speech menu and settings, it isn’t there, and I can only use one of the built-in or downloaded voices. If anyone has tested this, and got their voice to work, and can explain to me where I might be going wrong, that would mean a lot. Cannot work out if it is just me, or if there is a bug in the beta causing the voice to be missing like this.

The reason why it took days is, you also have to have your phone locked for it to process. Plugged in and locked. It only tells you it needs to be plugged in, but if you would’ve went back to it in the settings, you would’ve seen it says lock your phone, so it can resume. So if you would had your phone plugged in and locked overnight, probably at least eight hours, it probably would’ve been done. That’s all it took for mine.

Nice video. I think Personal Voice on iPhones could help people but, it seems like a version of Siri only using your voice. I think using Personal Voice could cause issues, people could use your voice to do bad things or go buy things using your voice. The bad things people would end up coming to you. This could end up being a problem for police.
