RPG World Map Maker - Tutorial

This is a video showing you how to use the .PSD file I created to make a realistic looking world map for your videogame in a matter of minutes.
Obviously you need Adobe Photoshop to use this (I don't think layer styles convert well to GIMP), version 7.0 and up. But that's all really.

Simply unpack the .rar file, install the font on your computer and then open up the map and you can start using it.
Please credit under the name Celianna.

You name each layer to whatever you want to it to be, to make organizing each aspect of a drawing/painting easier. Example, if you were drawing a human character you create a layer thats specifically for coloring the hair so it doesnt screw up other aspects of the piece.

For those wondering about the dark edges, try adding an "outer glow" effect to your land layer then change the glow color to black and the blend mode to darken (you can tweak the opacity until you find what you like). Now when you erase you will see the darker lines around the edges. Hope this helps :)

i figured it out guys. minus all the textures on the land and bg layer all they did was put a stroke layer style on the land layer and you just erase that smple.

How to make an automatic 'border' on the eraser??? The borderlines are not there when you pick a brush on the eraser. Now it looks too vague on my Photoshop

if you set the mode to "brush" while erasing, it gives it this nice "burnt" effect, its cool.

@demonxrazgriz No, I don't think so. You see, that dark line is configured into the layer style options, which can be read by Photoshop and GIMP, but I don't think Paint.net can read these layer styles. So I'm sorry, but no :( You can try GIMP though, since it's free.

So I just installed GIMP, but I cant get this "Inner Glow" effect to work, and when searching for tutorials, all I get is guides to add a glow to your text.. Anyone can provide some help?

OK, just curious, since this file that you uploaded you can't download anymore. Can you tell us how you got that land layer to act like it does when you erase away?

That is a layer style applied to the land layer. Looks a dark 'inner glow' effect. As he erases, the effect is drawn based on the updated shape.

GregTheHun I would imagine so however I can't say for sure since I have not used Gimp. A quick search came up with this though: registry.gimp.org/node/186 looks like a plugin that mimics Photoshops layer styles? P.S. I don't usually even read comments let alone post on youtube. Is what I am doing right now wrong? It seems there is a rule that all posts must be 75% rage and 25% stupid. I am sorry if I have broken any standard =/

Uhm this may sound dumb but I'm using this and I'm not getting that darker edging... how did you do that I'm using gimp and I'm unsure how that effect is caused..... I'v heard its Photoshop only though -.- If you have answered this i couldn't find that either.

The edges are too rugged. Not all the shores are scattered with small isles.

Do it by your own self its easy if you no how to do it. And to understand everything in Gimp you must read the original tutorial about Gimp.

So when it says RPG World Map Maker, the words in the middle don't matter? She created a map maker for RPGs not a how-to video to use RPG Maker. She does not claim this to be a how-to video for RPG Maker. Considering the fact that you switched the words around to claim that the video is something it is not, I would suggest you get yourself checked out for dyslexia.

I'm sorry to add this late but MPC4Utube, you really should follow your own advice. Learn to read and how grammar works. No where in the title does it state RPG Maker. The title says "RPG World Map Maker" as in a tutorial to help you become a maker of RPG world maps. The fact that you ASSUMED otherwise only shows poorly for you. An awful lot of drama over a tutorial title.
