Same, I don't have a zippo, but lighting my cheap Bic lighter is very satisfying. Just the sound, and the sparks of the flint, and finally lighting it after it being stubborn is a good stress reliever.

Zarsa You bought zippos or cigarettes? Anyways I talked to my mom and she will buy me a Zippo and a handwarmer as well, she was surprisingly okay with it. Note that a Zippo in my country is 100$, so there's no way I would have spent 100 without my mother realizing.

Hey, thank you for this video. I had been wondering why my zippo lighter was having it's fuel evaporate to the "angel's chair" so often (sometimes in a matter of just a few days) and you actually covered it at 17:40. I'm not a smoker. You cover a lot of ground in this video and I appreciate it, because you're the only person who's even touched on my concern with my zippo being filled, then evaporating so quickly. One question that I do have for you: Are you familiar with the idea of "purging the air out of a lighter?" I've seen people on the internet talking about "purging" their lighter. Now does that deal with zippo lighters, or does purging have to do with butane lighters? Thanks again.

Save any old BIC lighters people throw out. The flint in those will work in a Zippo. It only takes a minute to rip it out.

First time 'Zippo' user and I stupidly watched another video that said 'fill it completely up'. Thank goodness I watched this video telling me the dangers of doing that. Luckily I'm not a smoker, got my first lighter for candles, incense etc. I do have one question though, are these lighters okay being tossed in a bag etc.? I keep thinking that if it's already a little on the over filled side, would it leak out?

I leave a piece of plastic on the felt so i can use it as screwdriver/tool, I dont like scratching the cover. And i always add a gasket to the flint bolt, you can get one from disposable lighters. as for beginners, dont cut the wick, just wash it in gasoline/zippo fluid

If you want a bombproof (almost) way to carry a larger amount of fuel in a backpack fill an 11oz msr bottle with coleman fuel. Coleman fuel burns in an identical manner to zippo or ronson. Also it's a lot cheaper. Believing it or not msr bottles have holes in the threads of the cap that allow precision dispensing of the fuel. If you are running a white gas campstove either a coleman or a more compact backpacking model you can run your lighter on the same fuel. I keep a zippo overhaul and maintenance kit in each car kit. Each kit includes an 11 oz msr bottle, 3 wicks, 10 flints and an old beater zippo in case I loose the edc one. Another trick that works with zippos and the hand warmers, is to vacuum seal a full one with a food saver. They will hold their fuel indefinitely as long as the seal is not broken.
@InteliGear
@InteliGear 10 жыл бұрын
I knew of the small hole in the MSR bottles but not the Coleman fuel. Also the food saver idea is excellent as well. I gave my compact Coleman stove to my brother as well as the MSR bottle. My reasoning was due to the weight and finding more fuel in the woods. I have an empty vodka bottle that is just like the MSR so I will use that. It was a good deal seeing that I got booze and a free aluminum camping bottle! I have gone to more lightweight stoves for my bug out bag I.E. Esbit or Trangia. My idea is to only use these smaller stoves only when absolutely necessary I.E. when wanting to remain stealthy. Otherwise the woods have plenty of fuel for cooking. I do need to get a zippo tune up kit together though. Good stuff thanks! InteliGear.

...one more thing sorry... At one point you mentioned the flint that disintegrated... Ferrocerium is very prone to corrosion. That's the main reason the flints come painted. One thing they hate is salt water. Get salt water in the actual metal and it's done in short order. The paint protects it. I keep a flint under the felt and that disintegrating flint issue has only happened to me once. I assumed that the paint was defective and that was the cause. In my opinion it's best to discard partial flints and also to remove partial flints prior to storage. A rotten flint is a pain in the butt when jammed in the tube.
@InteliGear
@InteliGear 10 жыл бұрын
Thats is most likely what happened. That is why I keep mine in the bottom now instead of under the felt. It has only happened to me with the red flints though, Never the gold ones. I use the gold now but better safe than sorry. Be Well Friend... InteliGear.
