You should have some covers for the pit, it can be really dangerous without it. Also watch out for heavy gases, they can collect in the pit.

I was thinking the same when he was hopping over it each time getting in or out... What a horrendous idea falling in the pit! Very painful no matter how/what!

Great video. I usually find that every job that should take 15 minutes, takes 45 minutes and every job that should take a couple of hours, takes all day.

I have that exact same rust area/problem on the underside in the frame. Will be very interested in your fix. I need to get my windshield wiper installed and hope I can get it all back together and working. Thanks so much for sharing and your great videos!

Hello Vera, you are beginning to look good again with a few new ribbons & bows! Well done Sledge for getting her this far down the road. Fingers crossed that she passes her MOT or at very least the fails are not major. Take care.

Hi Sledge, been binge watching your videos and couldn't help myself, just had to buy a Volvo ;-) Just bought a 1990 240 GL Estate 61,250 original miles. Keep improving the cars my good man. P.S. When you were working on the handbrake cable I think you lost a securing pinch washer from the cantilever part attached to the axle. It has a long pin which holds the cantilever unit in place. The pinch washer holds the pin in. Hope this helps 🙂

Well done for no losing the rag with the brake shoes and the handbrake brkt. My main point of concern is that pit. Some poor bugger is gonna fall into there. Thanks for vid. Later.

Windshield wipers looks to be waaay too slow. The axles where you fix the wiper arms rust and jamms in their housings. You'll burn the motor with that jammed linkage. Allso the motor itself can be partially jammed. Had these both on my early 940..

I've got the same rust problem on my 940. Can't wait to see what it takes to fix that with Vera and make an ideea about my problem. I'll love to see a price for that job as an average, if that's possible. If anyone knows details about it, please let me know. Thank you and keep up the great videos! I'm learning new stuff along the way. I'm soo happy you've returned to posting Volvo maintenance stuff. My present issue is with my 1999 S80, i need to find the relay for low beams cause they died on me yesterday. Allways fun working on these :) But it's worth it anyway.

In Sweden you can remove the headlamp wipers, they are optional here, not sure how it is where you are.

Working next to the pit makes me nervous. It's easy to switch off for a second and end up in it . A few metal plates / wooden boards maybe .

Brings back memories of replacing my 940's rear drivers side handbrake cable. I took lots of pictures but a pain to get the pin out and needed a new glamp type mount as rotten off. It's good though that the parts are available and cheap on the whole.

Watching you fit the handbrake cable under the car, you may not have noticed the retaining clip on the pivot point on the body has come off and the pivot pin could fall out

Awesome video, I did the park brake crap on my 89 240 a few years back and am getting ready to do another roughly $1300 dollars in parts here in the next week once i clear the crap out of my garage, just enough space to get one Volvo in for now, you should come try a Central Canadian winter sometime you'd probably think you were in purgatory, good thing you ordered those covers for the pitta keep you and you mate safe ,I've worked in one before they're handy and a pain in the ass like that one when they fill with water, luckily the one i worked in was sloped to one end so the water drained into a small sump pit with a pump to drain it automatically if not it stunk of heavy stain smelling water, 👍

Jah man Sledge! Good progress! I have started just getting new PCV canisters (and flame trap) instead of trying to clean the old ones when i get new to me F engines, seem to me they never get really clean and you can still pick up the Volvo OEM for around 30 euros. They really blow the RMS real quick, as you know.

I know what you mean about the frustration of messing with brake shoes. A rear shoe lining fell off on my car so I got a new set of shoes. I did the faulty side but I will have to be in the right mood to attempt the other side!
@shepshepherd9 күн бұрын
Apart from replacing the pads, I've entrusted any other work I've had done on The Volvo's rear brakes over the past 21 years to my local garage, as the prospect of messing about with handbrake shoes and cables fills me with dread.
@RichieRouge2069 күн бұрын
Totally with you on the handbrake- it's the one thing I really hate on Bev, ànd I had such a lot of hassle trying to replace the cables. It looks pretty much the same set up on the 740 and all those drum inside disc systems are crap.

I would put some runners using Dyno bolts a few inches below the surface in the pit and make up some duck boards to drop in to cover the pit when not in use. It is a accident waiting to happen which would put your youtube into jeopardy in the future. I cringe when I see you working around it, even though I know you haven’t fallen in , otherwise I would not be seeing the video. 😂 otherwise you have the perseverance to get a job completed, skinned and pinched fingers not withstanding. We care about you.

With a vehicle that old, it's beyond expectation not to have a struggle with rusted parts. Expect the worst, and hope it's better than you think. You should have dozens of cans of WD40, or similar, before you start.
@lukemallory78329 күн бұрын
I have to say, I'm surprised at how finicky it is to work on our 940. Some of the design is just not.. good. It feels like even back then Volvo were making sure the cars would be back to the dealer for any maintenance.
@kjh789az8 күн бұрын
Quite honestly, the wiper mechanism is ridiculous. Sounds like a food mixer. Why not have a motor for each arm synced by an electronic sensor? I know, I know, because it's a Volvo... Cool music! Sort that working pit before it f***s you. Those are the yellowist headlamps I've seen for a while. Is the alternator charging?
