Anyone heading to do the NC500 I can highly recommend an 'out & back' to Reiff on the north-west coast (North of Ullapool). I can also highly recommend you stop for food at 'The Ceilidh Place' in Ullapool. I have done both many times, and they never disappoint.
@Oakdenalan4 ай бұрын
Agreed, just anywhere in the north west is amazing. Anything North of Glasgow through to Durness and over to Thurso is amazing. Not doing the east coast is a good shout. Its a great area, and would be famous in its own right if in England, but it does not compare to the North West of Scotland at all.

I lost my touring buddy to cancer two months ago, age 54. We travelled together for 15 years and were some of the best times of my life. (We did all of scotland and its islands, with much wild camping). There is something special about two up touring, being able to share your stories and battle adversity together. It brings you closer than almost anything else. I shall continue on my own, it will still be amazing but very different. Trying to find a buddy that compliments your style of riding and enjoys same things as you is incredibly rare. Whilst i am sad about what has happened, we had the most wonderful times together and memories that will stay with me always. I feel very lucky to have had those 15 years with him. I watch you and danny with a tear in my eye, those happy memories flooding back. We planned to tour the world over the next ten years…we should have done more but life got in the way. You have got it so right freddie.

You could hold a circus in Danny's tent. Yours resembled a discarded Durex. Great film. Really like Danny's bike, especially with no chrome to polish. The Bonnie looks great too, although the tank range you quoted was a bit depressing. As you both realised, motorways are a necessary evil if you want to get anywhere and they're pretty good going north because the population gets smaller. Good luck!
@FreddieDobbs4 ай бұрын
🤣🏕️ This is the first time I really felt my small tank range (mainly because I was comparing directly to the big Road King’s). That Road King is a phenominal mile munching machine

@@FreddieDobbs It's a good idea to stop every two hours and stretch anyway. Helps prevent fatigue accidents on the bike. On my first 250cc Honda I did five tanks of fuel back to back once on a ride of approximately 900km. I definitely didn't wish for a bigger tank, I was scrunched up on that bike and needed to stretch!

Then left Wick at 6am. Went to John O Groats then all the way around the top . Completed the Applecross pass. Then rode to Loch lomand. Stopped the night then back home. 2 1/2 days riding. Nice film Freddie 👍 The fuel flask issue is to do with altitude. If you fill it at low altitude or in low atmospheric pressure and ride into a higher altitude the contents expand, I had a similar issue in Morocco when I rode up into the High Atlas Mountains with my fuel cans. It’s worth releasing the pressure if you can, release the top slowly. It’s the same as divers ascending slowly to avoid the bends, if you ascend too quickly, any absorbed gas will come out of solution and will create issues. 👍

Just catching up with KZbin… Matthewsons in Thornton-Le-Dale are featured on my favourite tv programme - ‘Bangers and Cash’, on the U & Yesterday channel. Great viewing. And Haltwhistle… when you opened the curtains you could see a plaque on the square in front of the Air bnb. That is - so it’s claimed - the true centre of Britain, and has information on the plaque.
