The F-35 will probably rely on guided missles more then on its 25mm. There is no reason for it to replace the A-10 but it still has some purpose

@@KenMcKenzie98 but that's the problem. The f-35 is made to be a direct replacement for the a-10, as well as the f-22 and harrier. The only thing it has going for it is that it's better at vtol than the harrier, but at both air to air and air to ground it lacks way behind the f-22 and a-10. It truely is one of the biggest wastes of money the government had ever spent. Luckily the Marines wanted the old a-10s so they're not completely out of service and won't be for a bit now

That and so much money has been spent on the f-22 that those likely won't be retired before 6th gen fighters exist. We just should have built more of those and upgraded the a-10 fleet rather than build a very expensive and useless aircraft
