Bricks and mortar shops have a hard time staying afloat. It's all going online now due to the sheer volume kits take up. It doesn't help that landlords charge huge prices for retail space. The big issue in my small town is the richie riches who own the property can write off empty store fronts so there's no real pressure for them to lease the space. I live in a very touristy town and our main drag used to be the highlight of the town. But all the shops that drew the tourist dollars in were closing. Like most politicians the city council hadn't a clue how to stop it. I said "the solution is simple: if the landlords are able to write off the empty space, there's no incentive to lower rents to keep tenants. Put a policy in place that doubles the property tax on empty units and halve it for occupied spaces". You'd see all the empty spaces fill up right quick. I knew a couple of small shop owners and since retail space isn't "controlled" they moved out because their rent went up 50% at the end of their lease. The space sat empty for 4 years after. My woodshop space went up 40% this year. I put $12,000 into the space and it was a shit hole when I moved in. Now it's all fixed up. The landlords said "I can get someone else into that space for more than you're paying" but I put the money into it to increase the value!! SO? Where I am, it's illegal for me to remove all my improvements if I move out.

Nowadays almost all of the big kit manufacturers deliver really good kits for decent prices. My absolute favourite is Eduard, they are pushing the boundaries with every new release and the weekend editions are pretty cheap, check out their Fw190 or Bf109 in 1/48, it's a piece of art. Maybe avoid Airfix, their kits are not really bad but there are definetly better options.
