I remember the first time standing next to 1956 Lincoln Premiere coupe , it was my good friend's birthday and a car club member in San Diego offered to chauffeur him to brunch! We had a very long driveway , extra wide and that car still seemed to take up a lot of real estate! I was absolutely stunned by the proportions and the incredible COLOR! Wysteria! Absolutely gorgeous

Our neighbors had a cream-colored 1957 Premiere with white and turquoise upholstery and a continental kit! Theirs had air conditioning, with the scoops in the rear panels, the transparent tubes running from the rear deck and the 4 nozzles in the headliner. Quite a vehicle.
@curbozerboomer1773
@curbozerboomer1773 Жыл бұрын
Those tubes would turn yellowish after being in the sunlight for a couple of years...and they would block rearward vision, to an extent. But these 57s were just awesome, luxurious cars--preferable to Cadillac, IMO.

Good evening Donald . As always we can rely on your attire to compliment the motorcar . I agree that the 1950's was the epitome of the American land yacht. Luxurious limosines built at the height of Detroit decadence .....deliriously delicious ! Thankyou Donald .

Over 50 years ago, I owned a very low mileage (33,000) original 57 Premiere. sorry Donald, but I disagree with your hyper-inflated flattery about this cruiser!. The car did have 300hp, from that Y-block 368ci engine. But the car was heavy and ponderous...0-60 was 11 seconds or so. Not exactly a "fast" vehicle, by any means.I will say that it was very sumptuous inside--something you did not feature much!...and the car even had power "wing" windows! Amazing for 1957. But I will repeat...powerful maybe, but fast? Nope!...And the vehicle would wallow in tighter turns. It is what it is...truly a land "boat"!

56 and 57 Lincolns might be my vote for most underrated car of the 50s. The styling is so good, and the cars have immense presence in person. That said, it is hard to argue with 50s Cadillacs...

Two questions: What’s the location that the video was recorded at? Beautiful park like setting, looks like the same location 12:57 used for last week’s 1903 Winton video. What was the source of the tone that was present in the audio at the start of the video and intermittently throughout the rest of it, seemed to be most pronounced when slowing down and accelerating? Transmission related? Beautiful car, Thanks for posting! 1956 was a good year for styling across all of the American car manufacturers. Chris B. Stonington CT

Talk about quality reviews. This is it. I do have to take issue with you on one point though. The term " land yacht" , to my mind really demeans the car, it is not an impressive term, but rather insulting, and overshadows the positives.
@AudrainMuseumNetwork
@AudrainMuseumNetwork 2 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the video! For us, "land yacht" is a term of endearment. Just as yachts are prestigious and command attention out on the ocean, "land yachts" do so on the road. We hope you come visit the museum and check out the exhibition, Land Yachts - Cruising the Interstate Highways! Our admiration for these vehicles will surely show. P.S. Nice Hudson in your profile picture! Have you seen our video about the Hudson Commodore? kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZbVZX1qqbJ6htk

@@AudrainMuseumNetwork You have the unique ability to change my thoughts here and that's no easy feat. I have never in my life thought of the use of the term "land yacht" in this positive manner. Extraordinary. A 180 degree turn. LOL! Yes. That profile you did on that Commodore was just exquisite. The Hudson was exquisite. You were exquisite. When you do have just a moment, I invite you to click on the link so you can view my 49 Commodore, Straight 8. I think it would be love at first site. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4GloKWuh5dqfc0 Edited to say, yes, my plans to visit the museum is definitive. I will be there. Hopefully, maybe, so will you.

Actually, it is what it is!..I owned one, and the lethargic handling and somewhat lazy acceleration qualify it as being some sort of "boat"!...But I loved the car anyway, many years ago. I regret not keeping it forever!

Donald, you are merely hustling this car to us...This is not your type of vehicle...we know that you prefer good-handling, fast vehicles, frequently of foreign origin. This car is beneath your elegant appreciation of finer automobiles. In no way is it a "sports car"...maybe a 57 T-Bird would come closer to qualifying for that type of talk, but not this ponderous (but yes, rather beautiful) example of mid-century excess, form-over-function, etc. Stay true to what you enjoy, Donald. We do not need the sales pitch!

Interestingly, the 56 models are considered more attractive than the 57 models...and customers seemed to agree, as sales for the 1957 models were the lowest total for the entire decade!...But there was a recession going on in 1957-58, so maybe that was a mitigating factor...that, and those rather garish fins were considered to be just a little too much, by car journalists. I loved my 57 Premiere!
