I just bought this watch today...for 21.75 at Walmart. I'm into that retro Japanese 80s aesthetic...man it's so badass. I wore it today eating sushi with my family. Such a different feeling than checking time on the phone. Never thought I'd miss it, but now it's back! EDIT: 4:32 *THERE IS AN ADJUSTABLE CLASP AND I DIDN'T KNOW???? I'M GOING TO FEEL EVEN BETTER IN THIS NOW!*

Wow, great video. This really changed my perspective when I look at people who is wearing A168. Are they wearing it for nostalgic and own other heavy hitter horology at their bank vault or they are wearing as their only watch they own. Wow! Both ways show the range of reasons why people wear watches.

As much as I love the A168, I can not wear it just because my eye sight has deteriorated quite a bit , making hard for me to read such tiny screen. Although I wear glasses, I still find it way to small for me. My first-ever watch was a Casio Marty McFly at age 9, in the early 80s. Then I wore Swatch for the most part of elementary and high school, returning to Casio in college. My Casio Marlin died after its first battery change. I took it to the beach and that was the end of it, salt water leaked into the case and corroded the face and the battery after a few days. Today I own a black Casi-oak , and my beloved AE-1000W with metal strap, IMO one of the coolest men's watches Casio has ever put out. I'm planning to add a solar-powered Edifice but the model I want is sold out everywhere. Great video , Teddy! I love everything Casio.

My A158W is a beautiful little thing. I can imagine the slightly larger case with nicer backlight is even better. But I do love my little F91W in “chrome”. It’s tough, it’s cheap, and the WR rating is a lie. I can’t kill it. I think the “horrible” backlight is fine. Maybe I got lucky and got a bright one. I haven’t found the bracelet to pull my arm hair, and I’m a hairy wog. It’s more comfortable than most of my Seiko and Citizen bracelets. Not bad when the watch costs less than the bracelet on these alone. Lol. The only downside to them is that in Australia, they are jacked up in price to the point where it becomes challenging to justify the cost. But the second hand market isn’t too scarce.

I dig the 168. During winter it pairs so well with a black pea coat. Yes, it can be very fashionable whilst still looking practical and tough….and extremely affordable. Those are its best features, I think.

I’ve owned a Casio WV58A-1AV “world time” “wave captor” for over 15 years. It still sells for around $50 on amazon and has 4.5 stars over 2000 reviews. I recently replaced the strap, which had crumbled while I had it in storage (I didn’t know rubberized plastic straps could disintegrate with age - now I do!). I installed a new battery today and reset the time and date. I think the default year started at either 2001 or 2005. It is a very comfortable, sleek, practical design and has a good backlight. It’s a fantastic value - a cool watch. Also Liam Neeson wears one in “Non-Stop”!

I am super new to watches and after I watched this video a while back I picked one up. I find myself wearing it more often than not. Being as I don't make an exceptional amount of money. I like knowing I can get a good watch without spending hundreds or even thousands for most brands. Casio is a real winner for me.
@anthonystevens86833 жыл бұрын
Brilliant to see a Teddy review on one of the most affordable modern classic brands. I've had many Casio watches over the years since the 1980's when I started work. I have no idea how many I had over that 40 year+ period but none of them ever failed due to a manufacturing fault. Most had resin bands that failed or got damaged during my misspent youth on a motorcycle. I still have some of my originals 'somewhere' after some house moves but I have re-purchased some over recent years and they do get wrist time. As a tool to tell the time you could argue why would you buy another watch as you say. A great point but the watch community is not head or logic driven but heart driven. That heart for me anyway applies to watches that are quartz digital, analog or mechanical regardless of the brand name on the dial. Great review Teddy.

The A168 is a durable, utilitarian watch - enough features and a reasonable price point to satisfy most users. One drawback: the angular corners on the case, over time, snag, wear and tear sweaters, sweatshirts and long sleeve shirts.
@405wolf3 жыл бұрын
I bought that same Casio last year and brings back memories of when I was in high school. I used to make fun of people that had cheap watches on their wrists and realized its not about how much you pay for a watch or the status symbol of some brands or how you need to have something to impress others. Its soley about how that watch makes YOU the wearer feel when you have it on your wrist! So I have been buying inexpensive vintage watches, I dont pay much for them and I enjoy each one of them.

I'd love to see a watch like this in a more premium package: full stainless steel with an upgraded solid bracelet and 100m WR. I'd totally drop $100 on something like that and have the ultimate beater. I guess the next best thing is the all-steel G-Shock? The price is a bit of a deterrent for that watch though.

In a sense, this is the low end of what a tool watch is all about. It is not about style but almost all about function. The satisfaction comes in using this watch to improve your awareness of events in time and being able to respond to them, regardless if the style is retro or not. My only problem with the alarm is that I cannot hear it if I have worn it while my arm is wedged under a pillow (for support).

Had one of these gave it to my son he loves it, the cheapest watch I own is a casio F-91W. The A-168 has much better Luminescence at night than the F-91W but then it only costs £9.99 either can't be beaten on price.

Can you please provide some guidance in the direction of affordable GMTs. I think these far more practical in the real world than Divers. Who in the Hell really free dives below 100 feet. Keeping track of your home time and local time while on business or holiday is, I think far more useful.

I can look into this in the future. Most at an attainable perspective will not be a true gmt with isolated local hour hand movement but there has been an increase in solid GMT choices in the 1k range with many brands adopting soprod movements .

While plenty of people won't dive with their diver, the elapsed time bezel can be used for loads of stuff, you could time how long somethings been in the oven for, or exactly how long it takes you to get to work, or complete any household task. A GMT diver would give you both of those things though :D.

I wear a Casio now. It is model number W216H. I mainly got it because it is inexpensive to replace/fix and I don't have to mess around remembering to charge my watch. It's so simple and basic. I work security and I can't be accused of texting or making calls with my watch so I wear it at work. As an adult who grew up in the 80s, it is a great retro piece too. Another reason I like to wear it, is the hourly chime. It's my favorite feature. This Casio watch is great for what it is and what it does.

I've only ever rarely used the alarm hourly beep or the main alarm and only worn it occasionally since 1998 when I bought a new watch as my daily. So the light hasn't been used much.
