@@ant7699 that sounds really great. And you're very right. My collection is a F91w and a square G shock 5600E... I would like an Omega some day as I used to own a Speedy, and also an Explorer. But those things are very expensive and at the end of the day I don't know if they'll bring as much joy

@@Valera_Scotland Ah, so you like your mechanical automatic watches?. I can really appreciate some of these watches. We nearly lost these to the advent of quartz movements... Mainly seikos.... But luckily they survived and have become some of the most expensive types of movement on the market. Out of these more expensive watched... Ive never been keen on omega tbh... Something about the dial and the hands... I just don't like the style... So I'd probably start off my collection with a Rolex... Tudor apparently ate quite good watches........a company that does good quality rolex homage style watches with a much more reasonable price tag is a company called pagani..... You can get a well made timepiece for £90...or even $90....these watches include sapphire glass and also have a.. Automatic movement.... I might get myself one to see how I get on with it... I think they even do a Rolex daytona homage which is skelwtonised... Looks the bomb.... Sorry I'm waffling now... Enjoy your evening

Got hired as a part-time firefighter in 2006, I am now career. Casio makes the only watch that has survived firefighting and working full-time as a paramedic before getting a career firefighter job. I love the way you gave this the same treatment as you'd give a watch 20x the price. Speaking of the alarm, I have one of these, and spent a few weeks with the alarm going off at 5am every morning, with me being totally unable to locate where the watch actually was. By the time I could wake up and start to hunt it down by sound, it would turn off. Drove me nuts.

I hate this bad advice. There is 0 reasons to collect watches if your collection ideology is to check off checkmarks like owning a g shock, owning a diver, owning a dress watch. I have a casioak and it sucks. It has poor legibility, especially since the LED doesn't light up the entire watch, it's thick and for large wrists, and setting it up is a nightmare. Every collection should have atleast one G shock though right guys???? I think every collection should stop being bloated with cheap quartz watches and misaligned seikos, you're just slowing yourself down from getting a watch you actually want.

I bought my A168 in Japan about 7 years ago. And yes, it was about $25. I was surprised how cheap it was, and I'm glad I bought in Japan before returning home, because I noticed more and more Casio's like the A168 or the Databanks being sold in stores. Problem is, they retail for $100 here. I don't know why the price is 4 times the amount, but they're all quite expensive here in Australia. Considering how good the watches are though, I don't blame anyone for paying 4 times the amount I did. Almost had mine 10 years and only thing I've had to replace on it is the slide clasp, which was easily replaceable. I love it.

I've convinced my wife to get me one of these as a stocking stuffer for Christmas. All of my 24 slots in my 2 watch boxes are full, and I'm on a 'one in, one out policy'...... Plus this Casio! These retro vintage watches were the reason I got into watches in the 1st place! A 7yo me in the 1980's thought these digital watches were the bees knees! I'm so glad Casio is still producing these retro watches. A massive trip down memory lane. I'm currently wearing my Casio Royal. A watch that brings me just as much, if not more joy than most of the more expensive automatics in my collection. I might need another watch box just to fill up with Casios. They're just so good!

Casio is such a great brand with a cool history and a very wide selection. My G-Shock takes serious beatings at my work, and it's nice to know that I never have to worry about breaking it. Usually most of these retro styled classic digital Casios with basic specs are way more expensive where I live, than in the US and other places. This A168 thankfully holds about the same price though. It's so cool these models are still made, and let's just hope they will continue to make them for a long time. I've been thinking about getting the stelthier version of this with a negative display, the A168WEM. It's around $46 though.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to have a cool interesting watch. And I’m not talking about fashion stuff. I am very grateful that you’re not a watch snob . I got tired of those guys on KZbin and stopped following them. Just because something is expensive on the watch doesn’t mean it’s interesting or cool

I have also stopped watching some channels because of the tendency to just cover hype models, or mid-high end luxury watches. Teddy, JOMW, Relative Time, and a few others get my views now, because they cover a mix of watches that I find more interesting. Bruce Williams seems to have come back down to earth somewhat, so I watch more of his stuff now as well.

To be fair, your comment sounds pretty unfair to higher priced watches. Just because they're expensive also doesn't mean it can't be cool or interesting. And just because others cover it doesn't really mean they're watch snobs. It just means people wanna watch that stuff and me too and that's fine. There's nothing wrong with creating or viewing content of more expensive watches and that's regardless of whether you're able to afford them. It's great that we have KZbin and we can even see those pieces which we might not be able to afford. And even if you can afford some of them it's great to be able to see so many of them, more than you can own. I just think your comment is so negative and critical of expensive watch content when we should all just be glad that we can see them all so conveniently

As much as I love the A168, I can not wear it just because my eye sight has deteriorated quite a bit , making hard for me to read such tiny screen. Although I wear glasses, I still find it way to small for me. My first-ever watch was a Casio Marty McFly at age 9, in the early 80s. Then I wore Swatch for the most part of elementary and high school, returning to Casio in college. My Casio Marlin died after its first battery change. I took it to the beach and that was the end of it, salt water leaked into the case and corroded the face and the battery after a few days. Today I own a black Casi-oak , and my beloved AE-1000W with metal strap, IMO one of the coolest men's watches Casio has ever put out. I'm planning to add a solar-powered Edifice but the model I want is sold out everywhere. Great video , Teddy! I love everything Casio.

My A158W is a beautiful little thing. I can imagine the slightly larger case with nicer backlight is even better. But I do love my little F91W in “chrome”. It’s tough, it’s cheap, and the WR rating is a lie. I can’t kill it. I think the “horrible” backlight is fine. Maybe I got lucky and got a bright one. I haven’t found the bracelet to pull my arm hair, and I’m a hairy wog. It’s more comfortable than most of my Seiko and Citizen bracelets. Not bad when the watch costs less than the bracelet on these alone. Lol. The only downside to them is that in Australia, they are jacked up in price to the point where it becomes challenging to justify the cost. But the second hand market isn’t too scarce.

I’ve owned a Casio WV58A-1AV “world time” “wave captor” for over 15 years. It still sells for around $50 on amazon and has 4.5 stars over 2000 reviews. I recently replaced the strap, which had crumbled while I had it in storage (I didn’t know rubberized plastic straps could disintegrate with age - now I do!). I installed a new battery today and reset the time and date. I think the default year started at either 2001 or 2005. It is a very comfortable, sleek, practical design and has a good backlight. It’s a fantastic value - a cool watch. Also Liam Neeson wears one in “Non-Stop”!

Brilliant to see a Teddy review on one of the most affordable modern classic brands. I've had many Casio watches over the years since the 1980's when I started work. I have no idea how many I had over that 40 year+ period but none of them ever failed due to a manufacturing fault. Most had resin bands that failed or got damaged during my misspent youth on a motorcycle. I still have some of my originals 'somewhere' after some house moves but I have re-purchased some over recent years and they do get wrist time. As a tool to tell the time you could argue why would you buy another watch as you say. A great point but the watch community is not head or logic driven but heart driven. That heart for me anyway applies to watches that are quartz digital, analog or mechanical regardless of the brand name on the dial. Great review Teddy.

The A168 is a durable, utilitarian watch - enough features and a reasonable price point to satisfy most users. One drawback: the angular corners on the case, over time, snag, wear and tear sweaters, sweatshirts and long sleeve shirts.

I bought that same Casio last year and brings back memories of when I was in high school. I used to make fun of people that had cheap watches on their wrists and realized its not about how much you pay for a watch or the status symbol of some brands or how you need to have something to impress others. Its soley about how that watch makes YOU the wearer feel when you have it on your wrist! So I have been buying inexpensive vintage watches, I dont pay much for them and I enjoy each one of them.

In a sense, this is the low end of what a tool watch is all about. It is not about style but almost all about function. The satisfaction comes in using this watch to improve your awareness of events in time and being able to respond to them, regardless if the style is retro or not. My only problem with the alarm is that I cannot hear it if I have worn it while my arm is wedged under a pillow (for support).
