A 364-Year-Old Lament by a Remarkable Woman Composer 🎶

One of my favorite pieces from the Baroque era. "Lagrime mie" (My tears) is a sad 364 year-old lament by the remarkable woman composer Barbara Strozzi (1619-1667).

Performing Strozzi on theorbo is so incredibly satisfying. Glad y'all put a spotlight on such an underperformed Baroque composer like Strozzi. Her music is really, really exceptional.

​​@@virginielafrench3921It is not sung in an operatic way. Operatic voices used a lot of vibrato. Early music, like this baroque piece, utilise more straight voices without vibrato and only adding vibrato for expressive effect or as an ornament.

Absolutely. They could use any number of players in the continuo section. Orfeo calls for 4 theorbos. It is a wonderful sound. A cloud of plucks.
