I really like the briefcase-case. And yes, attaché is just a synonym for briefcase :D It seems like a decent beginner's machine. I'd like traveling with maybe a Skyriter that's inside a briefcase like this one.

I’ve never been a big fan of the clunky but reliable Japanese portables of the sixties and seventies. But I do own a couple and I definitely would have picked up this Signature, but maybe more for the case which is pretty hard to find in that condition.

When I was a child I had a brother word processor and auto typewriter and I absolutely loved it!! I just bought my very first antique typewriter today that is in fantastic shape. It's a Remington Portable that was completed in 1924 which makes it a 100 years old this year! I am so excited and feel like a kid with a new toy!

You add some extra sound insulation and it becomes a very solid feeling typewewriter,also quieter,easy to add new feet to also. Love these,have several in many colors ❤

The downtown area of Lambertville has antique stores that might sell typewriters however like you stated everything is priced high. The Golden nugget flea market is expensive. Pennsylvania has good swap meets that sell all kinds of stuff at reasonable prices.

I found my IBM Selectric II at a flea market a couple years ago for $5. It was in perfect condition, even recently professionally serviced. It came with a check box full of balls and three copies of the manual also. I'd wanted one of those ever since I was a little kid. I'm so happy to have it now.

Wow you are lucky. Bought mine for $250 in 1998. Still use it and I have 26 different font balls with duplicates accumulated and found over the years. Those balls sometimes go for $60 EACH!!

The cheapest I’ve found was $15 each for a Safari and a Lettera DL. Last one is a $20 1956 Office-Riter which I need to service to make it usable.

I'm watching this right now, thousands of miles away. I bought my first typewriter 17 week ago and now have 15. I can sit and look at a typewriter for hours and they are almost as mesmerising as cats (almost)

“When you find a typewriter for that cheap you give them your money no questions asked” I have 2 typewriters that I got for $5 Remington Quite-Riter and $10 Smith Corona corsair 710, as well as a few free typewriter, a Smith Corona (dont remember model) that came from a friend of mine who no longer had space for it. A friend of my brother gave me a Royal 10 that well working did need some serious cleaning as it was caked with mud, the other was a electric typewriter from a cousin who passed away, and I also had a $75 Comodoro Typewriter that I still can’t find out much about it except that it might also be called a Olympia model 3. I also got a second Remington but I don’t remember how much that was I think it might have been $95?

I've seen a few brother typewriters under different names. Mechanically they all seem to be the same. Which is nice if your working on them. They also tend to be cheaper than other typewriter brands. Maybe there just not as collectable as other brands or maybe it just the sheer number of them that were manufactured.

Looks very similar to my Brother De Luxe. In New Zealand, the typewriter market is so much less cost effective. It wind up costing me $150NZ, probably $90 US.

My New Year’s resolution is to only buy a typewriter if I have sold three. That is to try and encourage me to move on about a dozen machines…. It is typically easier to get them than to get rid of them! However, bargains are getting harder to find, and your tastes mature as you go on in the hobby. I missed out on a grail machine on eBay as the price went just above my limit. That still hurts.

@@avq5 It was an QWERTY Erica 5 with the rounded logo where the e goes under all the other letters. Older Erika’s are rare, and I might not see another for a long time. Sad face. 😞

It’s a typewriter. An inanimate object of societal driftwood. You’re not going to prevent landfill overuse. But how much did you spend on gas for the 3 hr round trip? What is the typoshpere’s root issue with the need to intro every conversation with how much they paid (mostly lies) for a typewriter? In part it goes back to the days of being embarrassed at paying anything for a typewriter. There’s still some of that around. I had some Missery bumpkins recently get a hoot out of someone collecting typewriters. But hey…you guesses it… The typewriter was only $10 and the gas was spread out amongst four others. Happy hunting!
