Ucanha
Uma antiga freguesia portuguesa do município de Tarouca.
Aldeia vinhateira do Douro. Ucanha, a aldeia do vale encantado.
Foi vila e sede de concelho até 1836, quando foi suprimido e anexado ao concelho de Mondim da Beira.
Pelourinho seiscentista. Armas reais representadas sem fidelidade heráldica, mostrando apenas seis castelos na orla e um escudete com ponta ao centro, e cinco besantes dispostos em cruz.
Em Ucanha, todas as ruas vão dar à ponte.
Tinha, em 1801, 2 217 habitantes.
Em 2013, no âmbito da reforma administrativa foi anexada à freguesia de Gouviães, criando-se a União de Freguesias de Gouviães e Ucanha.
Hoje em dia, a Torre da Ucanha está praticamente despida por dentro, albergando uma exposição de fotografia e pouco mais.
Ucanha está localizada na margem direita do Rio Varosa.
A Torre e a Ponte de Ucanha são joias raras do património edificado, sendo esta última considerada a mais bela ponte medieval de Portugal. A torre terá sido erguida em 1465, a mando do Clérigo D. Fernando.
A maior originalidade deste monumento é a associação de uma torre à ponte, como forma de proteção e de controlo de pessoas e bens. Num mundo feudal, em que as passagens sobre os rios eram poucas, a cobrança de portagem constituía um rendimento adicional.
Ao longo do século XIV foram várias as tentativas para isentar grupos de moradores do pagamento de portagem, todas votadas ao insucesso por imposição dos monges de Salzedas.
Foi só no início do século XVI que o pagamento de portagem foi extinto, momento a partir do qual o tabuleiro continuou a ser o meio privilegiado de passagem na zona, mas a torre entrou em decadência, permanecendo apenas como armazém de produtos.
A ponte está à entrada do antigo couto de Salzedas e do seu famoso e velhinho mosteiro.
A primeira configuração deste monumento único deve ter ocorrido na segunda metade do século XII, altura em que esta parcela do território estava vinculada ao Couto do Mosteiro de Salzedas.

Ucanha is located on the right bank of the Varosa River.
The Tower and the Bridge of Ucanha are rare jewels of the built heritage, the latter being considered the most beautiful medieval bridge in Portugal. The tower was built in 1465, at the behest of Clérigo D. Fernando.
The greatest originality of this monument is the association of a tower with the bridge, as a way of protecting and controlling people and goods. In a feudal world, where passages over rivers were few, charging tolls constituted additional income.
Throughout the 14th century, there were several attempts to exempt groups of residents from paying tolls, all of which failed due to the imposition of the monks of Salzedas.
It was only at the beginning of the 16th century that toll payments were abolished, at which point the board continued to be the privileged means of passage in the area, but the tower fell into decay, remaining only as a warehouse for products.
The bridge is at the entrance to the old Salzedas camp and its famous old monastery.
The first configuration of this unique monument must have occurred in the second half of the 12th century, when this portion of the territory was linked to the Couto do Monastery of Salzedas.
