⁴ᴷ (A) and (C) Trains running via the (F) Line

(A) and (C) trains were re-routed via the (F) between West 4th Street and Jay Street due to track maintenance being performed on their normal route. Due to the ongoing inspections of the R179 fleet, R160 cars continue to fill in for (A) line service while R46s fill in for (C) line service.

My real question: WHY ALWAYS BETWEEN WEST 4TH AND JAY STREET

Because it is an easy re-route. There are switches at West 4th Street and at Jay Street-MetroTech that allow the A and C to switch over to the F line in case service is disrupted on the A. Furthermore, in case service is disrupted on the F, it can easily switch over to the A at either station to get to its destination. TL;DR: there are switches at West 4th Street and Jay Street-MetroTech that allow either train to go over the other line and still reach their destination
