Unfortunately, I don’t have a access to a metal grinder like that. How long would it take to do it by hand with a metal file?
@StanCrafted5 жыл бұрын
Probably 10 to 15 minutes per cap. The key is really to keep each cap relatively flat so you can fit the two together pretty well.

StanCrafted what do you think would be the easiest way to hold them to make them as flat as possible so that they fit together?

@@alexraver3439 After you bend the crimped part of the cap out a bit pinch the cap in the middle and file the crimped part away. This will that the longest time, but you can get aggressive here, we're just trying to remove material. When the crimp is gone, the cap will still be a little crowned...this is good we need that to have just enough depth to conceal the penny. Once the crimp is gone hold the cap on edge as I do from the 1:23 mark to about the 2:00 mark and file the whole surface at the same time. Rotate the cap a couple of times as you do this and it will get flat in a hurry. Be very careful at this point the edge of the cap can get sharp. Not a bad idea to wear a leather glove on the hand that is holding the cap. Hope this helps! Definitely post a pic when you get done :-)

StanCrafted if I hold the middle of the cap, will it damage it when I start filing it down by hand? Pinch with just my fingers or with a pair or pliers?
@StanCrafted5 жыл бұрын
@@alexraver3439 Pinch it between your fingers and thumb. Shouldn't damage it, just file away the crimped edge in one place then rotate a bit and file the next spot until you've gone the whole way round :-)

what type of liquid adhesive did you use? thanks

It was a 5-minute epoxy from Loc-Tite, but it was more like a JB Weld than regular 5-minute stuff.
