Fun facts about this movie: -The director, Joel Schumacher, made an apology for making the movie on the DVD commentary. "It was like I murdered a baby" -George Clooney apologized for playing Batman multiple times since the movie was released, and once said "I think we might've killed the franchise" -This movie was nominated for almost every Razzie award that year (award for terrible movies), and even won a Razzie for "Worst Supporting Actress", which was Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl. -Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, called this movie "so bad that it demanded a new way of doing things", and he was right because after this movie, the "Holy Trinity" of comic book movies were released: Blade, X-Men, and Spiderman. The age of Superman and Batman were over, and Marvel basically took over ever since.

@@thehonestreviewer7754 You say that like it was on a consistent basis. They had that and didn't have shit until damn near a decade later and even then, the only real prosperous and critically acclaimed ones were Wonder Woman and Aquaman. Marvel, on the other hand, has been on a consistent streak for over a decade. So yeah, Marvel took the ball and ran with it. No turnovers, a couple of fumbles bit no turnovers. So that's Superman Returns (Personally, I love that movie.) Batman Forever Batman and Robin Man of Steel Batman vs Superman Justice League All were critical failures in some way. They literally only had the Christopher Nolan movies to rely on Let's look at marvel movies that were critically acclaimed Blade 1 and 2 Spider-Man 1 and 2 X-Men 1 and 2 Iron Man 1 and 2 Incredible Hulk Thor 1, 3 and 4 X-Men prequels 1 and 2 Captain America 1, 2 and 3 MCU Spider-Man 1, 2 and 3 Avengers 1, 2, 3 and 4 Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2 Deadpool 1 and 2 Ant-Man 1 and 2 Black Panther 1 and 2 Black Widow Captain Marvel Doctor Strange 1 and 2 Logan So yeah, Marvel took over. 🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️

@@RedHood410 "You say that like it was on a consistent basis." Seriously dude? I give one example of Batman stomping over Marvel and you're acting like I'm saying DC overcomes Marvel all the time? Fine, I'll give validation to this comment. Dark Knight Rises, BVS, Joker, and The Batman were all consistent at passing the top ten at the Box Office proving the cape crusader still has staying power in theaters. In fact, The Batman overcame Thor 4 at the Box Office despite the latter coming out during the summer movie season. Pair that with how much influence Batman films have had over comic-book movies in general, and I'd say the age of Batman is not even close to being over.

Yes the one Batman movie so bad that even the people involved, including director the late Joel Schumacher, admitted it was bad. Side note, I always feel bad for Schumacher regarding this film. He's made good movies, and from what I heard was a nice guy, but this production did him no favors. WB made him spearhead this movie immediately after the commercial success previous movie, Batman Forever, and told him to fast-track production so it would release a mere two years later. This means he had to get the movie written, casted, re-casted because the previous Batman Val Kilmer left and was also difficult on set, filmed, and edited all within one year. If that wasn't bad enough, toy companies were also involved with the production design in order to make it more 'toyetic' and therefore marketable for toy commercials. With all these factors, can we really be surprised that it's as bad as it is? Hell, I'm surprised the movie was even finished. Lastly as to answer your question about live-action Batman actors in movies we have... -Adam West: Batman the movie (1966) -Michael Keaton: Batman (1989) and Batman Return (1992) -Val Kilmer: Batman Forever (1995) -George Clooney: Batman & Robin (1997) -Christian Bale: Batman Begins (2005) The Dark Knight (2008) The Dark Knight Rises (2012) -Ben Affleck: Batman v Superman (2016) Suicide Squad (2016) both Justice League (2017) and JL Snyder Cut (2021) and Robert Pattinson: The Batman (2022)

Honestly that was quite the overreaction to the bat credit card. It does seem like something he would logically have in case he needed money in the field. I'm he did some leg work to prevent it from being traced to him. I'm reminded of the time he bought coffee in the Justice League cartoon, though he paid cash for that. I can't think of a reason for the bat nipples though. There was a lot of stuff to question about this film, but I don't think the card was one of them.

No, they didn't get a sequel from this, even if they wanted to set it up for one. While it did technically make money, it fell short of double the budget, which a film needs to be considered successful. The three films before it made over triple. It pretty much killed the Burton/Schumacher series and we didn't get another live action Batman film until the Nolan trilogy eight years later, which wasn't as big of a gap as I thought. For the most part Adam West was the only one to portray Batman in a live action TV series. That said other actors played in here and there in other DC live action shows, such as bits and pieces in the Batwoman TV series, but we didn't get a good look at him until Batwoman when to an alternate universe to find a version of him played by the late great Kevin Conroy. It looks like he appeared in Titans, but I never saw that. Generally speaking live action TV shows avoid showing Batman. In Smallville they gave jobs normally done by Batman to Green Arrow, another wealthy vigilante with a host of gadgets. Kevin Conroy is the actor who died recently. He has played Batman more times than any other actor, albeit in animation and video games until the Batwoman episode I mentioned above. I will miss him.

The batman comics date back to early 1939. Many major comic book heroes that you know of originated from this time period. Captain America, Superman, batman, etc. and yes, all of them fought the Nazis around that time except maybe Batman (not sure if batman fought the Nazis in comics published during WW2). Most of the characters in the Avengers were created around 1962-1968 though.

Hmm, since we tend to BS a bit, figured I'd share this fun fact with you Duck... When this movie was in theaters, they had a tie-in promotion with Amoco gas stations and Maglite where so many fill-ups of premium fuel would let you redeem a coupon for a Batman Maglite set. After the promotion, the signs they had up for it were typically dumpstered, as they had been sitting outside atop the pumps for weeks. Well, where I lived, we were having mild weather and the signs were in pretty good condition still - we were at the station when they were taking them down and 12-year old me asked if I could keep them. Still have them, they're rare as hell, it's justa shame the movie sucked! Oh, and to answer your question about how long Batman has been around - 1939, Detective Comics #27. Also, you hurt my soul by saying you think of Ben Affleck when you think of Batman...

20:37, My good man, you'll be relieved to know that "Batman & Robin" did indeed lose money for the studio and Doug's statement about the film being a big Bat-Bomb was entirely correct. A $238 million box office gross against a $125 million production budget might seem okay at first glance, but we need to understand these numbers a bit better: First, roughly half of that cash earned does not go to the studio. It goes to the movie theaters that are commissioned to house the movie on the studio's behalf. Movie theaters need to make a profit too. Already, that leaves the gross money for "Batman & Robin" down to $114 million, which already means it failed to recuperate its production costs. This is why it is generally accepted that a movie needs to make back at least twice its budget in order to break even for the studio. But then there's the second thing to remember: the production budget numbers do not include the amount of money the studio paid to market and advertise the movie. The marketing budgets for most movies are not that well-documented, but we DO know the one for "Batman & Robin." Warner Bros. spent $125 million more to advertise that movie, as it was intended as a mass summer blockbuster. So, in the most conservative estimate for how bad this movie failed, we are looking at a net loss of at least $136 million for Warner Bros. Pictures. A Bat-Bomb indeed!

10:47 Consider the process, traceability, and stupidity of Batman carrying around a credit card. 1. Who's name is on the card? 2. Is this money coming out of Bruce's bank account? 3. Is Bruce leaching this money from his company? 4. Does Batman have a bank account? 5. Is Bruce transferring money to this superhero's bank account? 6. is this money traceable? 7. Can this card even legally be used if it has Batman's name on it? 8. Does the IRS know about this? The whole concept is just dumb. Batman in the animated series was fighting a guy who could enter his mind when he is asleep, so he drove up to a Starbucks at 3am to get a coffee since he had been awake for days while looking for this guy. He did not pay with a BAT CREDIT CARD, he paid with CASH. Sanitized, fingerprint scrubbed, not from his account bills. Not even 10s or 20s. Just 1s. That is how you keep a secret identity!

Batman and Robin is the end result of overcorrection. After the 1989 Batman movie proved you could make a successful superhero movie that can appeal to older audiences, WB gave free reign to its director, Tim Burton to make a sequel. The end result, Batman Returns, was dark, gritty and esoteric to the point where parents didn't want to take their kids to see it even though WB was marketing it to all ages. So, they fired Burton, hired Joel Schumacher and had him direct Batman Forever. It was more kid-friendly and marketable, but it still had a little bit of edge and it was hugely successful, so they decided that Batman and Robin should be even more kid-friendly and marketable and sand off all the edge.

Honestly this movie is a guilty pleasure for me. Heck I would watch this more times than Batman v Superman. Also Linkara killed the Bat credit card joke as he pointed out that Batman can make up shell companies to avoid fraud.

Walter (the guy that played zack snyder in the Batman v superman review) and dougs brother rob have a side project called fanscription where they take certain movies and present alternative ideas examples like “What if apollo creed wasn’t killed in rocky 4” “what if hawkeye died in avengers endgame instead of black widow” “what if venom wasn’t show horned into spiderman 3 etc and the whole NC cast acts out the scenarios For the past couple of years they’ve been working on a version of the 89s Batman universe where tim burton never left In the 1989 batman film burton made Billy Dee Williams (who played Lando Calrissian in Star Wars) made a brief cameo as a character named Harvey Dent known in the batman comics for suffering a brutal accident at the hands of a criminal (the identity of whom depends on the iteration) affecting his brain and transforming him into the schizophrenic villain Two-Face Two-Face would become a secondary antagonist alongside the previously mentioned by doug jim carrey riddler in batman forever but he was played by tommy lee Jones (who acted alongside Will smith in the men in black films) who took an entirely different approach to the role and it almost seems forgotten that Williams ever appeared in the role This episode of fanscription written by Rob was a hypothetical scenario to fit things in more organically m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZ3doGytltahY7s Now we get into the alternate movies where burton never left as they followed this up with a sequel “What if Tim Burton directed Batman Forever featuring not only the twoface THEY created but a different darker take on the riddler compared to jim carreys as well m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXKUiIhjbrqJrtk This went over so well that the team is now on the cusp of their most ambitious fanscription project yet What if Tim Burton directed Batman and Robin They took this to so much detail its being split into 3 full length parts Part 1 m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpSnfpiQbbeGask Part 2 m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3bad2CcZd54d7s Walter is editing part 3 as we speak and it will be coming by the end of this month Heres a playlist list of all the other fanscriptions if you like those…which you should m.kzbin.info/aero/PL0AQIMR-tpomLKQJknOapmFncdOYVlWHw Oh and heres the hawkeye one it got lost in the playlist for some reason m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/homunWeneslpp9k The series runs MOSTLY monthly unless they’re doing a really big one like these batman ones those aren’t the norm 😂

09:55 Wait, so you actually watched "The year without a Santa Claus"? Or did you see a review of it? 10:33 One of the most iconic Nostalgia Critic moments...too bad like a lot of popular moments, people kept over-quoting it and asking him to do the line way too much to the point where it got annoying and overplayed.

Another review of this film that's just as funny if not more so is the one by Chris Stuckmann and John Flickingjer of "The Flick Pick". And the funniest part of it was how John talks about the opening shots of the close-ups on their asses as they dress up. He says and I quote _"Let's say you've never seen this movie- you're a little bit excited and a little bit scared- and what's the first thing you see? Rubberized man-asses, close-ups. That's what sets the tone of the movie. Close-ups on man-asses. Thanks, Joel Schumacher. You really set the tone of the movie. And the tone is "ASS"!"_

Adam West, Michael Keaton, George Clooney, Ben Aflec, Christian Bale, and that's just the live action versions. There's a slew more in the animated verisons. The Batman, Batmant the animated series, Batman Beyond with a successor batman, Scooby Doo meets batman and robin (Yes, they did this a few times) There are too many to count and name, and yest I know I left out the batman, the recent live action batman in there, mostly becuase I couldn't be bothered to look it up right now. It's like trying to watch all the star wars movies and shows, or even Star Trek. There's a shit ton of both.

One thing I’ll say about this review is… NC back then was a lot more hostile than he is these days. Quite immature. The scene with Bruce and Alfred is where it comes through cause Alfred freaking raised Bruce, no wonder they love each other, they’re practically father and son and then Bruce finds out Alfred is dying? Yeah there’s gonna be some emotion there and it’s the best time to show it when you see a loved one go through the pain of dying by illness. I know I’m ranting but it kinda pissed me off to see Critic do that.

Another internet reviewer, Linkara, destroyed the "bat credit card" joke in his review of the comic version of the movie, NC appears for a brief moment and Linkara explains why it makes sense, basically it comes down to Bruce Wayne being insanely rich and having a credit card to a fake account for whenever he would have to use it as Batman (for example, one episode of an animated tv show he was fighting a villain that was trying to make him fall asleep to torture him in his dears, he stopped to buy a triple coffee) and not want it to be traced to his identity as Bruce Wayne. Actually, Linkara is a pretty funny reviewer, too, and while he mostly reviews of comic books he occasionally does movies, too, for example, he made reviews of both Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, same movie who's NC's review you've seen last time. Perhaps you could give Linkara's review a watch, too, he knows more about DC universe than Nostalgia Critic.

On a previous video I left a comment asking you to watch the DCAU in order to get to know more about the world of DC. I also added a few more too help you understand DC better along with what you should watch after you finish: *1) Batman the Animated Series season 1 (in production order which is the one you're watching) *2) Batman Mask of the Phantasm, *3) Batman the Animated Series season 2, *4) Batman the Animated Series season 3, *5) Batman and Mister Freeze Subzero, *6) Superman the Animated Series season 1, *7) The New Batman Adventures season 1 (or season 4 of the Animated Series), *8) Superman the Animated Series season 2, *9) Green Lantern First Flight (film) *10) Green Lantern: Emerald Knights *11) Superman the Animated Series season 3 *13) The New Batman Adventures season 2, *14) Batman Mystery of the Batwoman, *15) Chase Me (short film), *16) Superman: Brainiac Attacks, *17) Batman Beyond season 1, *18) Batman Beyond season 2, *19) Batman Beyond season 3, *20) Batman Beyond Return of the Joker, *21) Justice League: The New Frontier *22) Green Lantern First Flight *23) Justice League season 1, *24) Static Shock season 1, *25) Static Shock season 2, *26) Static Shock season 3, *27) Static Shock season 4, *28) Justice League season 2, *29) Batman the Brave and the Bold (all seasons) *30) Justice League Unlimited season 1, *31) Superman Doomsday, *32) Justice League Unlimited season 2, *33) Justice League Unlimited season 3. After that you should watch: *1) Teen Titans seasons 1-5, *2) Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo, *3) Deathstroke: Knights and Dragons, *4) The Batman (series), *5) Green Lantern the Animated Series, *6) Young Justice season 1, *7) Batman Under the Red Hood, *8) Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam, *9) Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, *10) Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, *11) DC Showcase: Green Arrow (short film), *12) Young Justice Justice season 2, *13) Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, *14) Justice League Doom, *15) Justice League Crisis on Two Earths, *16) Batman: Year One, *17) DC Showcase: Catwoman (short film) *18) Batman: Assault on Arkham, *19) Justice League Dark, *20) Superman Vs The Elite, *21) All-Star Superman, *22) Young Justice season 3, *23) Constantine (live-action series) season 1 (it only has 1 season), *24) Constantine: City of Demons, *25) Young Justice season 4, *26) The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 and 2, *27) Justice League: Action. I know that it's quite a lot but please take your time and watch them. They are some of the best and most emotionally mature animated and super hero content of all time and after you have seen all of them and you will truly be a DC fan. There's more I can tell you with Marvel animation as well because the Marvel movies aren't exactly accurate nor do they represent Marvel comics exactly well.

the cure Mr Freeze had was designed for an earlier stage of the disease then the one his wife had, that's why it worked on Alfred but not his wife. I'm a little surprised you know Mary Poppins lol, there isn't an animated mary poppins film, but there's a scene were the characters hop into an animated world through a drawing, cause she can do whatever she wants. oh, the NC isn't wearing a tie, that reminds me he actually doesn't know how to tie a tie, not even joking, there was a behind the scenes video a while ago with him and James Rolfe the AVGN, James had to take him step by step through how to tie it cause apparently Doug just uses the same pre-tied tie all the time, but it came undone by mistake.

To be honest, a Bat credit card isn't even that bad of an idea. It'd be really stupid for Batman to use Bruce Wayne's credit card because they can easily trace who he is through purchases.
