2:30 Hi Jake, I’m from the Geelong area and can help 😂 The way you are saying it is honestly fine, if you want to be perfect it’s more like juh-long (not much emphasis on the double ee). It’s often spelt ‘Djilang’ by the local aboriginal people and is thought to mean something along the lines of ‘cliffs/peninsula/land’. Ballarat is a cool name to, it comes from ‘balla’ meaning elbow and ‘arat’ meaning place, so it was traditionally a resting place. I drive the a300 pretty frequently, always fun to see it come up. Love your work 👊

Most Australians say 'Je-long', just ignore the double ee. The first time you said it was right. Another town I hear most non-Australians say incorrectly is 'Cairns', which is actually pronounced 'Cans' - the 'r' is silent.

@@elevated2k thanks for the tip on Geelong! As for Cairns, though, I’m pretty sure it’s only said that way because the Australian accent doesn’t pronounce the r. Since I speak English with an American accent, I’d argue it’s more correct to pronounce it as such (same goes for Melbourne - the r isn’t really silent, “Melbun” is just a result of the accent).

@@jakelyonsgeo I didn't really think of it that way, fair enough. I guess it just sounds strange for me to hear someone pronounce Cairns/Melbourne in ways other than how Australians pronounce it, as I am used to hearing the Australian pronunciation of those places in the news etc.
