I like the human mom's attitude. She seemed happy that the bears could enjoy her backyard. Mama bear was pretty cool too, enjoying a brief dip while the Cubs run amuck. Not much different than humans.

Yes some children, like YOU, will go "OHH ITS SO COOL" but This child being worried is a perfectly reasonable and logical response. Part of respecting wildlife means keeping yourself safe from them and them safe from you

Edit: asuming a (likely underestimated) 12' diameter and a 4' depth, the pool would hold 27,070 lbs of water.

Emperor TBW Yeah but the design is built to distribute the waters weight across a large surface area, it’s much more impressive that the small point of pvc held up to several hundred pounds of bear pushing off of it. I’ve leaned on a pvc pipe about that size and broke it.

@@tee4222 What wall thickness? There's a reason they don't typically build pools out of schedule 40 pvc. If I did the quick math right, a small section of the pools circumference the same length as a unit which when cubed would contain a pound of water would be holding back about 4,308 pounds. That unit would also be approximately equal to the size of a bears paw. (probably noticeably smaller in fact) the bear is about 300 pounds on the outside, so it shouldn't be shocking that the piping can hold her.

They will probably look back at this and laugh. The younger sounding kiddo seems a little more curious, but certainly follows big sister's lead. I agree they should be cut some slack. Though I ALSO would, personally, enjoy this more if they were laughing or showing the same patient amusement as mom. 🤷🏼‍♂️ These days, I'm just happy to not hear, "Your daddy's gonna get us a new rug!" or "Shoot 'em, momma, shooot!" I hear barking, so I'm equally happy they have the canine safe.

tohru Actually calling the cops to shoo the bear and cubs back to their own side is the best thing you can do. If you look at their yard they have close neighbors, what if their neighbor came out or neighbor kids came out and the mama bear saw them as a threat, what then. Mama bears will fight to the death to protect their young and are quite aggressive when they have cubs. So if she was to attack someone in that neighborhood she would be shot dead and maybe her cubs too, and if cubs weren’t shot they then would be left to fend for themselves which would probably die as they are still young and nursing, or they would be sent to a zoo or sanctuary to live out their days in a cage. So no, calling the cops to shoo or “scare” the mama and cubs back to their own side isn’t “disgusting” at all, it is the safest for them.

maltheopia Most times someone calls the cops and the cops call animal welfare to deal with it. And you are right, not many would have acted as calm and nicely as this woman, I’ve seen videos and heard stories of people going outside to shoo or scare them away with 3 things happening, animal/s make more damage, they run away or they attack. The lady who made this video, this is the 3rd one of the encounter, the bears were there for like 30 min, that’s a long time for the bears to be out there, thank goodness no one was hurt. Also, ridiculous on the time it took for the police to get there, but like I said they usually call animal welfare/animal service to take care of these issues so probably why it took a bit longe to get there. This mama bear had 5 cubs, she def needed a beak, some relax time in the pool, lol, she wasn’t lettin the babies come in with her. Never seen bear with 5 cubs, never more than 3, she must have been exhausted. 😊

Absolutely a privilege! I actually had the honor of fostering a black bear cub for over a month in 2006. She was a DNR rescue and was bought by a taxidermist at auction for someone else adopt but it fell through. I named her Honey and she wore Huggies and drank bottles. I would hold her and rock her for hours in absolute wonder. Did you know bear cubs purr?! I didn't until I was rocking her with her head nuzzled into my neck and she started doing it and smacking her lips like she was mock suckling. Awesome experience.

S thinks Right. As I little girl I probably would have been crying that I wasn’t allowed to go out and play with them. If I had that backyard I’d be honored to share it, especially with a whole family of bears. If I had seen this in my back yard as a kid I would’ve become even more desensitized to the idea of a bear attack and no doubt my sister and I would’ve spent lots of our time trying to force our friendship on to the poor family. Probably would have ended up hurt if I lived in an area with bears, but I definitely would not be worried about my floats and bubble guppy car
