Jacob and Natalie , you guys make me believe 'common sense' isn't dead! The way you reuse materials and come up with amazing $$ saving devices for your build. It's very satisfying to watch, plus it's a fantastic example for your children. Love your videos. 🇨🇦😉

At the start when you where fitting and tac welding, you could have tac welded the HSS steel to your end of the trailers Angle Iron temporarily to keep in exact place while welding instead of using a stretchy ratchet strap. Tac welds cooling will pull and try to change your measurement and that is why when you removed your strap the arch frame moved. I think I might give it a try to build one of these. Looks like fun, I hope yours turned out well and I have learned somethings watching your build. Thanks.

Nice job! Next time you weld fishplate gussets like these, leave the short ends perpendicular to the tubing unwelded. Fully welded gussets put a huge stress riser at the end of each gusseted joint, both fron the heat of welding and now the joint area is stronger than the bare tubing. Unwelded perpendicular gusset ends can flex a minute amount, without stressing the tubing. It'll probably never break, but...

I have egg on my face....because the western side of the southern border angles northwest, it threw off my former calculation. If I measure the distance between the borders on the eastern side, it is 390 miles from north to south, and 195 miles ends up about in line with Show Low. The people in Vernon and Concho can say northern. Glad I re-calculated that....still doesn't "seem" northern to me though :)

I discovered this channel Saturday July 22. Awesome build in Canada. He has the same wood mill as Jacob. Wonderful technique and interesting artistry. Also, has solar power. I hope it is okay that I have attached the address of this build because it is very informative. Lots of skill in this one. www.youtube.com/@TheOutsiderCabin Family friendly. No bad language or pictures.

lmao Guys it is a log arch Trust me the first log you lift it will tweak itself into alignment (good or bad) just go with what you have Rome was not built in a day You are being way to hard on yourselves Do the best you can and move on I have not seen any trees large enough to buckle or bend that log arch Have a great day and as always All the best from Allenford, Ontario, Canada

Surprised how many people call that area northern Arizona. St. Johns is in southern Arizona so anything south of that is de facto southern Arizona. Haven't heard anyone call that area southern.😮 don't go barefoot around those metal shavings-ouch.
@aboulderlifeoffgrid
@aboulderlifeoffgrid Жыл бұрын
I think the same thing sometimes. We're basically eastern Arizona near the center (north and south). But everyone always calls it northern Arizona, so I just repeat what I hear. I'll try to say it differently next time 😅. Thanks.

Only rookie fabricators need to keep showing their 4 best welds of the day....and only mig welds why not the stick welds??? Bwahah 🤣🤣. Just giving you a hard time. I don’t think people truly understand how difficult it can be to do some of the projects your doing in the field vs Inside a work shop where you have a nice level floor and all the tool you need arms length away.... worlds apart!!! I’ve never seen this method used so looking forward to see how this works.

A few questions concerning your welding. What sticj welder are you using? What amperage? And are you using 6010 6011 or 7018 sticks? Flux cord on the MiG? Welder? What strength? I’m putting one of these together with 2x3 steel tubing on my dump trailer and am not exactly a season welder
@aboulderlifeoffgrid
@aboulderlifeoffgrid 11 ай бұрын
Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you. The stick welder is a Forney 235 AC/DC. I believe I was welding at 100 amps DC. Used E7018 rod. And yes, fluxcore on the mig. I had the voltage all the way up on the mig just to get good penetration. Regular wire with argon gas for the mig welder is the way to go. You'll get much cleaner welds. Something I have yet to do. Thanks 🙂
