I went to boarding school in Tywyn back in the day and used to travel the line from Carmarthen to Aberystwyth. it was, indeed, a lovely run. Was at the Gwili, which is now open to Abergwili, a few weeks ago.

Quality productions like your will always attract viewers. The camera quality was amazing. There were points where I thought I could shake hands with you. I did like the double screen map, excellent. The lad you interviewed was a good advert for the line, what a nice bloke. The drone is good and you use it sparingly which makes the viewer want more. Sorry for essay, I'm not a train enthusiast but love your channel and Rebecca's nest. It's saved me during lockdown.

Beautiful countryside. The abandoned overgrown RR right of way. Seems like a mystical portal. You can almost imagine the pathways you walk leading to another world. Reminds me of a short story by Ray Bradbury.

Bit late in seeing this video, but about 20 years ago i spent a week over the Xmas holiday laying tracks on the Gwili railway. Hard work but great fun was had, sleeping in old carriages and evenings in the pub.

I recently rode on the Gwili Valley Steam Railway from its new starting point, Abergwili Junction. There is a large car park there, and it looks as if the station is being built up.

This line from Aberystwyth to Carmarthen was one of the most scenic runs in Wales until BR were to stingy to repair the river bridge in Aberystwyth signalled its closure.

Yup, we lived our trip here and would imagine it would make one of the most stunning routes in Britain.

Scenic, yes, profitable no. It had a ruling linespeed of 25mph and was quite lightly laid. Journeys from Carmarthen - Aber too 3 hours in the 1960s and no-one used it. The line might be a useful thing now, but these railways simply made no money and when the line was severed by flooding, the closure was inevitable.

The Gwili Steam railway, oh yes, have been on that line twice. First time was in 1982 and the second time was in 2016.

Yes, Rebecca, he does waffle on, but it's in a good cause. One small point - I found it disconcerting to have multiple images during the interview at the heritage railway - I thought something had gone wrong with my browser.

@@pwhitewick Yes Welsh is a phonetic language - you can't pronounce it wrongly if you learn the alphabet, and that won't take more than 10 mins of your time! It is the oldest indigenous language of Britain so every Brit should learn to pronounce it, just as New Zealanders learn how to pronounce Maori.

When are you doing the Isle of Wight? I went there in 1981,2 and 3 with a mate for holidays on our motorbikes and we travelled round trying to find the old lines and stations, would be great to see it all done more professional and on film.

Love the video! Quick question: what's the website you use with the two maps at the same time? Also if you do any of the disused stations of the south Wales valleys, could I join you as I know them well and I probably spend tok much time looking at maps of the area (and can help with Welsh prenounciation). But don't suddenly decide to do them soon just because I'm saying because I assume you've got lots of plans for various other lines before then.

It makes me wonder if some of these lines survived just a bit longer they would have made it to the era of realising how important railways are and still be here if that makes sense. Cheers Don. There are often lines where we ponder how and why they ever opened, this one however is certainly not one of them. Travel by train from Carmarthen to Aber now and it'll take you over 6 hours. Plus its stunning of course! by the way some Welch pronunciation for u llanpuimsaint ..ll =cl so to pronounce it clanpimsignt also DD in a word is th in English so bronwydd is bronwyth how this helps u
