@@Nc3three I actually wouldn't say Elliott got lucky that season. If you go back and watch it he had several races where he was extremely unlucky to not win. He had the 2nd highest driver rating, 2nd most laps lead, most fastest laps, and the best average running position that season. I think many missed that at first sight, but I do think he ended up being deserving of it.

I'm also glad to see F1 fans from the UK have an understanding of the sport, as there aren't many out there I believe. You forgot to mention the NASCAR Overtime segment. Indeed this is correct. To prevent the races from ending under caution conditions, NASCAR will allow drivers a maximum of 3 opportunities of 2 circuits around the course to end the race under green flag conditions. If the race is slowed by another caution before the leader reaches the start/finish line for the final lap, another "overtime" restart will be commenced. If the caution is issued on the final lap, the race is announced as an unoffical finish, thus the race ends under caution. If a caution happens after the 3rd attempt, the race is over under caution. This rule was brought about late in 2003 after one driver was nearly struck by another competitor which would have resulted in severe injuries. As an American I dislkike this rule but I understand why NASCAR directors have kept this rule firmly in the books for nearly 20 years

@@ac1d2 Most hate Denny too and that includes me. However most people dont like my driver either. That would be Harvick (who replaced Dale Earnhardt Sr after his fatal crash who is my all time favorite and BIG shoes to fill). The thing with NASCAR is that through its History certain drivers have had the biggest followings and im not talking by a little either. Bill Elliott was voted most popular driver for a 5 year stretch followed by a decade long reign with only a year in between because he bowed out so Earnhardt Sr was guaranteed a chance to win after his fatal crash at Daytona in 2001. Dale Earnhardt Jr followed suit as well for 15 straight seasons with Chase Elliott taking over for the last 4 straight and inheriting a major chunk of Jrs fanbase and what was left of his fathers. It must be said that a least 60% (my best estimate) of these fan bases are toxic as hell anything against their driver down to the smallest thing is met with INTENSE hate and vile. Reason is thrown to the wind and toxicity prevails. Now granted everyone can make stupid choices from time to time and no one is exempt from this. Problem is for example at Bristol this year Chase came down on Harvicks door in the corner racing hard for a win. Harvick got lose witch does happen when someone rides your door. It pulls air off the spoiler and the side of the car thus losing traction and downforce. Causing Harvick to chase the car up the track and creating contact between he and Elliott. Elliotts tire was cut down after being in contact with Harvs side mounted exhaust pipes. Long story short he got angry and had to pit. He came back on track a lap down and parked his car in front of Harvick slowing him down being unable to overcome Elliotts good car and new tires. Eventually leading to Larson(Elliott's teammate and future 2021 champ) to get around Harvick in the final laps to win the race. Point being Elliott fans went mental and trashed Harvick and ignoring the obvious. Which is the scenario I explained earlier with the downforce and completely forgetting that Elliott had smashed Logano at the very same track in the very same situation the year previous. Unlike the Harvick incident, Elliott completely took Logano out in the same manor only completely wrecking Logano. Did the Elliott fans forget about that? No they just defend their guy to hell with reason and logic. Getting me back to my point. Denny and Kevin are both hated by this fan base. Thus the majority of what you will see about these two drivers and others including but not limited to Kyle Busch and Logano will be hate. With that said...F@&! Em!! Like who you like because you feel a certain pull to that driver not because someone else told you to like their guy because in the end everyone is a hypocritical d bag from time to time and life's to short to worry about what they think. Most time they have blinders on and if your not invested in a certain driver or team for your own personal reasons...you will lose interest. I dont want that because even though NASCAR has sold their soul for manufactured drama... i.e. The Playoffs and elimination style format... I still love it more then any other sport and think it has alot to give to any motorsport fan around the world. Let me end by saying this was a great video and i am happy you my friend are showing interest. I hope more F1 and european fans will give it a chance. It's tight racing with team work and strategy. Sounds a lot like F1 doesn't it?

I think the next gen cars along with the new road courses will change a lot of people’s minds about nascar. It really is a spectacular and strategic competition. And with the newer tracks and cars, I feel like it’s become more of an “all round drivers championship”. I mean think about it, these drivers have to be good on numerous road courses(dry and in the rain) and the entire range of oval tracks America has to offer, even on dirt.

I'm new to both sports, the way I see is a corners a corner and a straight is straight. It's not that different. I was flabergasted by there being 20 drivers out there for f1, when only a handful matters. Last year the championship was decided by one of the last place cars crashing in the last few minutes. It's bizarre, but what I've started to learn is that the f1 community go deep into the teams and racers and all the drama week by week to the point where they actually are interested in how Lando Norris finishes or if Latifi keeps his job etc. Or if xyz fights with whoever. Or whose the best young driver. How xyz does with his new team. They do a good job marketing the sport and racers, especially on youtube it seems.

I became more aware of and interested in NASCAR during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown in March 2020. Before then, I had heard of the big names of the sport past and present, Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt and Jimmie Johnson (they won 7 titles each). But while getting to know more about it, I came across a driver who had an unconventional, but nonetheless inspirational rise to the top. What is more, contrary to the reputation of the sport being anchored in the Deep South, 1992 champion, Alan Kulwicki was actually originally from the Midwest in the state of Wisconsin, which is way north of the Mason/Dixon line. The story not only of his rise but his title winning season are remarkable. Making his full time debut in 1986, his car owner, Bill Terry, decided to sell the team halfway through the season. Rather than accepting the short term hit to his prospects, Kulwicki decided that he would purchase the team outright. When he became the owner of the team, AK Racing, it started out really small. So small in fact that he was not just the driver and team owner, but the Crew Chief and Chief Mechanic as well, he also only had 2 full time employees with the rest of the team being made up of volunteers and castoffs from other teams. Over time, having won Rookie of the Year in 1986, the team performance improved to the extent that by the penultimate race of 1988, at Phoenix Raceway, Alan Kulwicki scored his first win. To celebrate, he gives a nod to his Polish ancestry, by turning his car round and circulating the track clockwise. This came to be known as the "Polish Victory Lap," after Kulwicki and the idea was to allow the driver to wave to the fans more easily (the cars are left hand drive). He secured one win in each of 1989, 1990 and 1991, but was never considered a legitimate championship challenger as his best season at the time was 8th in the standings in 1990. I've compared it to Leicester City's chances of securing the Premier League in 2015/16. Yes, Leicester were on a good run the previous season to avoid relegation, but nobody had any expectations for them to win the league. It was similar for Alan Kulwicki in 1992. Despite the fact that he only won two races in the season, once in Bristol and once in Pocono, he found himself 2nd in the standings going into the final race of the season, the Hooters 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. That race had lots of storylines going into it, Richard Petty's final race of his career, the first race in the career of future multiple champion, Jeff Gordon and (including Alan Kulwicki) no less than 6 drivers mathematically in contention for the title. The championship leader going into that race, Davey Alison, crashed out of contention for the title, eventually being classified 27th, and the title race came down to a flat out battle for the race win and the championship between Alan Kulwicki and Bill Elliott. At the time, NASCAR awarded bonus points for leading a lap and leading the most laps (of 5 points each). Despite losing first gear at his first pit stop, Kulwicki was up front all day and would go on to lead 103 laps in total, compared to Bill Elliott's 102. Come the end of the race, Elliott records his 5th win of the season, but it was bitter sweet as Alan came in second to secure the title by the slimmest margin in NASCAR history, just 10 points. Kulwicki had just 5 wins total in his career, but he never gave up and became the first owner driver to become a champion since Richard Petty did in 1979. Tragically, 4 months after winning the championship, Alan Kulwicki, along with 3 other people (associated with his sponsor, Hooters Restaurants) were killed in a plane crash outside Blountville, Tennessee on 1st April 1993. Even as a grown man, it's hard not to tear up watching the solumn footage of his team transporter slowly driving round Bristol Motor Speedway and being shown the chequered flag before leaving the track. There was an additional tragedy just July that year, championship leader going into the finale the previous season, Davey Alison was killed in a helicopter accident at Talladega Super Speedway, Alabama

It's funny you should mention Alan Kulwicki, actually, as I was watching a piece on him a couple of days ago here on YT. I think their policy towards YT is one thing that NASCAR should be commended for, as fan-made videos are everywhere, and often really high quality where they're allowed to use proper race footage. As a fairly recent arrival to NASCAR, I've learned far more in a short space of time via KZbin videos than I would have otherwise. Perhaps F1, BTCC etc should take note, as NASCAR fans seem to do half of the series' marketing for them, and for free at that!

I have never seen a sport so determined to overcomplicate itself into extinction...well except maybe the NFL. It all started with the chase for the cup in '04 which began a long tradition of "If it ain't broke, bash it in the head with a giant hammer until there's nothing left." (long winded rant below) 2014: The chase expands from 10 to 16, win and you're in. Everyone else is judged by points. 4 rounds are done in knockout style until Miami. Highest finishing racer is Champion. But if you finish well for the first 35 races and then wreck in race 36, you're F'ed. 2016: All races now have forced caution clocks every 20 minutes that prevent long distance stints because F driver safety and natural racing. Sprint Cup develops gimmicky Dash-4-Cash events that have several heats before the main event. Be prepared for forced trauma at the end with the overtime line which demands 2 more laps of green flag racing. They'll try it 3 times per race before saying "F it" and declare a winner. 2017: Say hello to segmented races! Because 1 full run of 400-500 miles is too traditional and boring for people to understand! The first 2 segments give 1-10 bonus points and the third segment gives 40 to the winner, 35 to second and drops a point per position. The "playoffs" are now decided by these bonus points. Points are no longer given for leading the most laps in a race. If you have to replace something or get your car worked on, you're F'ed. It doesn't matter anyway because the driver that finishes highest is still season Champion. You couldn’t flood something with more in the gimmicks if you tried. The executives have dug themselves into a massive hole with their incompetence. What is the endgame? What is the modus operandi with all of these changes? If it’s angering the fans, you have succeeded spectacularly. Business 101: DON'T ALIENATE THE CORE CLIENTELL TO CHASE SOMETHING THAT DOES NOT CARE FOR YOU! Sam Yokel from Alabama may not be the most marketable guy to the shareholders, but Sam Yokel CARES about NASCAR! He invested his hard earned money into NASCAR by going to races and buying merchandise. Now he no longer cares because the powers that be are wrecking the sport he once loved like a car being driven by Danica Patrick. If you look at most races today, you will notice huge, empty, patches of aluminum where fans should be. This is not an isolated thing, it’s EVERYWHERE. One of my best friends was a massive NASCAR fan who had been watching the sport his entire life. When the owners started making these changes in the early 2000s he suffered through it for nearly a decade until they alienated him to the point that he couldn’t take it anymore and stopped watching. They drove him out, like a leper. How would I fix it? Well I do have this one crazy idea; Just let them race! Most points to 1st place and drop a point per position. Most points at the end of the season is Champion. I’m a genius!

So even though there are only 4 drivers who are "in the playoffs" for the very last race, the whole field still races, correct? If so, isn't that strange? What if someone who wasn't "in the playoffs" finishes ahead of the championship winner? Does that driver celebrate? Or is all the attention solely on the winner of the playoffs? I don't know if anticlimactic is the right word, but there's something that seems strange about that.

It's much the same as it would be in F1, where some drivers enter the final round without a shot at the title, and still win the race (Button in 2012, for example). In that case, they have a great time, and walk away with a nice big trophy, whilst the top finishing playoff driver takes the championship. So far, this hasn't actually happened in the NASCAR Cup Series since the introduction of the playoff format, as the driver that has won the final round has always been a playoff driver so far

You've got the right idea. NASCAR is about "tradition", which means short oval dirt tracks. NASCAR ovals exist now because dirt ovals were the traditional and local standard back in the day. NASCAR V8's still sound amazing. A good comparison is rally cross racing vs. American style oval dirt track racing, eg Outlaw or Late Model series.

Well that concludes the fact that I won't enjoy NASCAR at all. But I did give it a try and it is pretty competitive of a sport. So fair play. It's just that I find this made voluntarily complicated just to try and keep people to watch it and keep the hype till the end of the season. It only took me about 3 races each to understand how F1, Indy car, moto GP, work and to be engaged with those.. Ofcourse there are millions who would find NASCAR as easy as anything and I respect that.. I just see no point in Hating NASCAR at all.. it's great, highly competitive and somehow more Raw than any other motorsport like rally car sports( Idk what it's called). Many F1 fans hate nascar and vice versa but I think it's safe to say that these people are just toxic.. I'd love to see these two sport combined in a certain way if possible.. ( could be interesting)

After the last two F1 seasons that happened(2022&2023) I’m looking for something different. The racing and standings are so predicable in F1 and seeing only 3 drivers win all the races was such a pain to watch. I’d love to get into NASCAR but find it’s too hard to understand.

so just a point i didn't quite catch, only if every possible caution appears and a car chooses to adjust to these new conditions and then falls a lap behind, only the first car to drive into preparing will get the free pass? Or is it just like, caution appears, a several cars go for adjustment and the first that is falling a lap behind (which typically should be the car farhtest behind, coming in last) gets the free pass?
@F1Fan0001

I think it's probably best if I explain through an example. In this situation the race looks like this Leader: - 2nd:. +2 seconds 3rd: +5 seconds 4th:. +1 lap 5th:. +1 lap 6th:. +2 laps In this case, the fourth place car is given the free pass to come back onto the lead lap, as they were the first car a lap down at the moment the caution came out. This will be the case regardless of any pit stops

"competition caution has been seen a lot through 2020 thanks to the scrapping of qualifying and practice sessions but it a normal race it is only really thrown if there's been a change in the track conditions since qualifying..." qualifying is scrapped but then comp caution occurs if there's been a change in the track conditions since qualifying? I guess I'm just missing something... 😁 Excellent overview though 😉
@F1Fan0001
@F1Fan0001 3 жыл бұрын
Practice and qualifying was scrapped in 2020 (and a fair few races in 2021) due to the pandemic. For these races, a caution period was mandated. Under normal circumstances (pre and post-pandemic), there will be practice and qualifying, so those competition cautions are no longer mandatory, and will only be used if there has been a track condition change since qualifying. Hopefully that helps :D

@F1Fan0001
@F1Fan0001 3 жыл бұрын
@@stopmotionkid96 Over the races in 2020 and 2021 with no practice or qualifying, NASCAR has used a quite complicated matrix system to determine the grid. This includes factors such as the overall points standings, the fastest laps from the previous race, and the result from the previous race. It all gets weighted in various formulae, and in the end spits out the grid order. It's a complicated way of doing things, but the results have actually been pretty much spot on throughout the pandemic, so fair play to them.

So, essentially NASCAR turned itself into.... HOCKEY/ROLLER DERBY. Well, that would certainly provide for better pacing for the viewers. It would also present the opportunity for TRUE COMPETITION between race teams (i.e. Hendricks vs Gibbs). Maybe that's too far for some of you NASCAR fans. Somehow, I get the feeling that turning NASCAR into a team sport would be a bridge too far. The increase in merchandising alone would provide NASCAR with an INFRASTRUCTURE of its own.
