Preparation for your first thermal to cloud base and what to do when there. This is aimed at the new pilots and has been left just basic with not over doing the instruction.

I love you man you're great I just got my wing I'm still studying and I have to figure out where to fly near my home because I'm poor. This idea of being kind to Farmers is something that you didn't stress. You should find farmers who have a place you would like to launch and then tell them you will fly up the cloud base and throw out some cornstarch so it will rain on their fields. From the respectful way you speak I can tell you got a lot of self-respect and you don't want to go someplace and ruin it for everybody because some farmer let you in to seed clouds and make money. Whenever I land in someone's field if they come speak to me I'm going to tell them I ran into a haystack and offer them $20 for the damages of me hitting the hay stack. I already have farmers who will let me launch from their big hill and I want to have a ring of hills around my house no matter which way the wind is blowing I'll always launch on a ridge and try to fly home. I want to wiggle around in my seat and worry about landing in exactly the perfect place and you're talking about knowing one field and settling for Another. It's very reassuring. I have lousy launching conditions but good landing.

Thanks Marc, I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I think a first ever XC flight ending after 15km by being able to thank a farmer then off to the pub to be a brilliant day

Hi Marc, had a bit of a bumpy ride with a lot of thermals here in the alps. Therefore I wanted to ask you, how I should act once, for instance, I can feel a pull at the right of my wing and it gets shaky? Where to pull the brake and how much approx.? Where the weight putting to? Sometimes it pulled me out of a sudden with 3 m/s like an elevator and that was a bit scary 😅 So just to know the basics how to act once it starts pulling at one side of the wing would be highly appreciated 🙏🏼 Cheers and have a great weekend, Moritz

I would suggest some fly/guiding buddy, get a pro to give you some advise after watching youth or she can then de brief you and tell you the best course of action,I can't say online as I was not there,I could give the wrong info and then you go and crash, and we don't want that buddy.

@@leavesleyaviation I actually meant generally flying into a thermal. It is mostly like that it starts pulling at one tip of the wing and I am not sure what to do then... Pulling break on that side, or on the other side? Where should I shift my weight to? But maybe you are right and I should book a course for that kind of topic. Thanks anyway pal

You always turn into the lifting wing tip buddy, it’s lifting because the thermal is lifting it so go that way, what pilots tend to do is turn away and of course then hit all the sink 😂

@@leavesleyaviation Which explains the "bumpy ride" I had 🤣

Exactly the same questions I have and another video titled "for beginners" and "what to do with thermal" but not answering any of these beginners questions, like it was some top secret knowledge...
