We've always had this style across tri Ace games. Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria, Radiata Stories, Star Ocean 3, 4, 5 and 6 all sport this style. It is very clearly their schtick and who am I to stop them from wanting to do their schtick.

I wanna believe this is a good star ocean where it skyrocket's the series back on the map and it gets a better budget and team (maybe hire some better writers and stuff) and we get better future S.O titles.

So i Loved Star Ocean 1 - 3 and the 4 and 5 just drained the life out of any excitment for the series. Im wondering if all the praising Reviews are just people so jaded by 4 and 5 that this seems like the second coming of christ. I do enjoy 6 but I agree alot with the points he makes in this review

You know that cutscene where there was a flashback when Nina met Letty and Al for the first time as a child. I hope they sticked to it rather than doing 3D custcenes. It conveyed the story way better than any 3D cutscene this game has.

I'm tire of the 'princess' character in anime. Almost every female protagonist (or dueteragonist) seems to be a warrior/magical princess to make them more important to the story. She could be an architect researching ancient ruins, a knight protecting her land and lordship (which she's already doing kind of), or even just an plain ol white bread adventurer. It's like the writers don't feel confident enough in writing a compelling female who can hold the audience's interest without being royalty. Make her a princess and suddenly everything she says is important. It's a trope as played out as the protagonist being a 'normal high school' boy. Princess's and catgirls need to take a break from fantasy.

Great review, I felt the same about private actions in particular, but I would add they were lopsided...or not balanced well. Like you mentioned, it brought simple personality to the characters, like Midas dreaming of Malkya, but then it would get way too deep into the story itself, or the character's core, which should have been presented in a cut-scene or somewhere else than an easily missed Private action. Lola was a dynamic villain and most of her background was spoken at great length literally walking to the next destination "after peace" chapter. It felt like the cut-scenes were forced filler, which is fine, but not when you have real character development content to make room for instead. But drastically better than SO4 and 5 for sure. I'd take Edge over Ray any day though, they completely fumbled Ray. He's just there, no character. I'm not white, but it's a bunch of old Japanese executives like making a sterotype of a mullet rockin' American and sadly they nailed it.

the first hours i thought its okay, then i started liking it, i havent finished it yet so cant say that i will like it till the end. The best part about this game is the actually good voice actors, they did kinda carry it for me.

I picked this installment up for free with PS Plus and am enjoying it. But definitely because I didn't spend a single penny on it. It actually isn't that bad when you can get past the character model issues. But definitely worth a play for a cheaper, if not free cost. Belated cheers!!😄😁🍻🍻

I started on universe and unlike other star ocean games where my combos felt deliberate, i feel like im just button mashing but its working. The only challenge so farvwhich turnee out to be run circles, bait melee attack hit was the worm. Idk combat at least as leteicia feels to spammy and half her skills knock the enemy away so its awkward to try and combo

Maybe its because i played on ps5, or maybe its because i value combat, progression and exploration over story, characters or world building, mostly i think because i play most RPGs, not just JRPGs, i get addicted to gameplay, and i personally dont put too much stock into story, to me its a minor pillar of RPG design, too many times ive played some lackluster JRPGs with poor and basic gameplay design because they put too much focus and resources into story, it doesnt matter how good a RPGs story is, a RPG with bad gameplay is a bad RPG regardless of story, the combat system should always be the main focus of a real time action JRPG, just because a RPG is made in Japan, that isnt an excuse for making a RPG with bad gameplay, fromsoftware, square enix and capcom have learned this lesson and now are the leaders in Japanese game design, leaving the rest of the Japanese AAA gaming industry looking like mid budget AA titles

My friend asked me if SO6 was worth it and I was like.. look.. It's a bad game.. but its a GOOD bad game! Get it as soon as its on sale, fo sho. I really like SO6, but taking a step back and looking at the series as a whole - 2 and 3 are some of my all time fav RPGs and I really like 1(psp, never played original).. But then 4 was just 'aight, I didn't really like it much but the combat got me through it, and 5 was just flat out awful imo, never beat it.. So for 6 to be an obviously very low budget game, its a big step in the right direction for me personally! It kept me interested and these days its rare I beat a RPG and am like "damn, its over.. :/ " I don't know what the sales were like for 6, but i hope it did good enough to warrant a SO7, maybe with a slightly bigger budget for polish, maybe? 🥺👉👈 But it was released during that time Square Enix decided to drop like 12 fucking rpgs in a 3 month period and totally shoot itself in the foot, and then come out later and say the sales weren't great for most of them and they needed to rethink things.. no shit, SE. And while I'm here, I am obligated to say JUST GIVE ME RADIATA STORIES ON PS4/5 OR PC! IT DOESNT EVEN HAVE TO BE A REMASTER JUST GIVE ME MY FAVORITE GAME WITH TROPHIES I CAN COLLECT PLEASE SQUARE ENIX AND TRI ACE OR WHOEVER I HAVE TO BEG I KNOW YOU READ RANDOM ASS KZbin COMENTS SQUARE ENIX I KNOW YOU ARE LISTENING PLEASE. Star Ocean 5 has a nothing story with nothing characters, the Camera in the battle system makes small locations unbearable, The rock paper, scissors combat is completely busted due to having every party member participate in battle (Strong attacks break guard and weak attacks can bypass a strong attack when the game is seven versus one what can an enemy do?),the bonus gage is back but it's so much in your favor you'll get exp,sp and fol multipliers so often The game will never become challenging When I got the bonus gauge, i've never lost it And for the rest of my play through at minimum it was three times multiplier, Due to this, you'll never have any money issues And you can buy the maximum amount of anything that you want In a game that is infamous for item creation I didn't find welch until much later in the game Dude item crafting I was oblitbreeding anything and everything. That normally took me 10 seconds before but after I learned item creation. I was one shoot everything. Also the final boss can click out and have infinite health. There is an ungodly amount of backtracking and the game doesn't give you fast travel until the end of the game. The private actions are completely useless and don't tell me anything about the characters. The soundtrack is decent but the best tracks in the game are reused From star ocean three and four and valkyrie profile for some reason. Because fights take place on the field and do not transport you to a Battle. And since you play us fidel no matter what outside of battle if you play as someone else 9 times out of 10 You'll start the battle attempting to escape. There's only one planet to explore.

once you said all that about the best Star Ocean 4 yaaa.. ie the one given even a pc release and al the rework because it was so much the best (though sadly a bad port, which is all too common..) almost stopped watching. But figured likely just another normie and maybe will still have a few decent points, gave it a watch. (which for sure proved too be true, a massive normie all about the combat and simplistic minimal characters that are relatable to basic real life ).
