A Better Mic for the Quest 3? ModMic Wireless

Great video per usual! The Antlion wireless mod mic is the mic I decided to use for my Quest 3 & VR live streams. The quality is top notch & sounds wayyyy better than the standard Quest 2/3/Pro mics. The low latency dongle also allows for no delays in audio, which is crucial for a smooth VR experience or VR live stream. I have actually used the wireless Antlion mod mic on three VR headsets thus far! It was my mic for the Quest 2, Varjo Aero and now Quest 3! Easy, reliable installation with a long battery life I have used mine for 10 hours straight before without any battery issues so no telling on how long it actually lasts. The bending arm that actually stays in place is fantastic as well! The omni and uni directional options are both nice to have depending on wants or needs. Like you, I never use any audio filters and have been asked several times while in VR or live streaming what my microphone I am using is since the quality is so solid. That is great that Antlion reached out to you because it is THE mic to get for VR for most VR headsets. Cheers Mark!

Thanks for the feedback Farmertrue!!! Glad to hear you have found the same results... what I really like is you get a couple of the "nubs" so you can easily swap the mic itself between headsets. Again I was really impressed by the whole package and I hope Antlion does come out with a new version that might link to the Quest 3 without the dongle. We will see.

You can use with Quet3 with a USB C to A adaptor and turn on external mic support in the quest, but as this vid was a while ago you may know this by now

That would be interesting to tryout, you would have that HUGE dongle sticking out the side of the headset. The problem I see is you need that port for the external battery so you'd be very limited on your gametime just using the internal Quest 3 battery. Nice suggestion though.

i noticed you have a sim rig have you tested the mic with crew chief? The meta quest 3's built in mic does not pick up my voice unless i shout. Thanks for the video too very informative this may well be the mic i have been looking for pending if it works well with crew chief and voice attack.

Yes I use a DOF Reality H6 for adding motion to my simulations and it is amazing. I have not tried this mic with crew chief but can't imagine it wouldn't work just fine. I'm hoping they make a new version that can work directly with the Quest 3 instead of having to use the PC. Sorry I can't be of more help but hopefully you can find someone else who has used it with that program. Thanks for watching.

Did you need an adapter of any kind to have the blue tooth receiver to plug into the laptop?

It comes with the dongle that plugs into a USB-A port on the computer. You can see it in the video and that is all you should need. Thanks for watching.

I think the mic was I little close to your mouth in the game clip .. the sound just before you had the mic way away from your mouth and still sounded fine so I wouldn’t worry about having it to close .

Probably, first time I was using it so didn't have it dialed in. Didn't have time to refilm the whole thing, setup is crazy with VR, camera tracking etc. and I thought it was good enough. Sorry you didn't like it but thanks for watching.

the only thing i wanted to see from watching this video was a direct comparison between the modmic and quest 3 native microphone because the quest 3 microphone itself isnt too bad with the recent updates but i just want the best there is without having to walk with my sm7b around the room

Does this work directly with the Q3 and no PC needed now that the firmware has experimental USB usage? Sure a USB A to C dongle would be needed to even try.

You don't, I talk about that in the video with it being one of the problems. It is only for PCVR application only. Did you watch the video?

For Zero Caliber? Ya I think so but I haven't tried it with other people yet... plus I think the updates have even added PVP but not 100% sure. It should tell you that stuff in the game description on the store page in steam if you want to make sure. Thanks for the question.
