A better way to instal radiant heat in concrete!!

We started installing our radiant heat tubing a different way than how we used to tie it to the wire mesh. This barn is 56 X 56 and we installed all the tubing with 2 guys and my back did not even hurt from bending over to tie the tubing to the wire mesh. Now the wire is just up off the bottom about an inch and that is where you want it on the tension side of the slab.

I used a FLIR to find where I can go into the concrete. Heat the lines up with hot water and they’re easy to find. It will also show if you have any flow problems. Works great!

I've used the same stapler. I found it jams less if you don't let the staples get too low. I'll add staples when it starts to use the last strip.

That staple gun is pretty slick and a real back saver. Over time the rusty wire reinforcement will rub on the PEX with every heating and cooling cycle of the slab, I would be concerned with future leaks. I would have used plastic chairs to raise the wire off the PEX tubing so there would be no future issues. Why didn't the first truck with the longer conveyer stay so each subsequent truck could dump in getting you into the back corner without having to use the Brentwoods?

If you use AMPEX, it comes in many R values and there is no stapling, staples, etc. It comes with a heat welded vapour barrier on top which friction fits the pex tubing. So its a very fast install

LOL 😂 You might end up with some concrete shoes to go swimming with! 😊 Fin crete happens in the winter because on a cold day, when the truck is loaded at the plant, if they add very hot water when first batching the load, the drum is cold, and expands quickly, causing the fin crete to fall off as the steel expands. It’s a little tell about who rinses their truck good, and who doesn’t. Sometimes!😳😉 The joys of traveling Rt.34 in the winter!

Not sure why you're not using Heat Sheet by Logix, unless you've never heard of it. You can get different R values at 2/3rds the cost of polystyrene. It's made to hold Pex, interlocks, and you just walk on the Pex and it snaps in place. Way faster to install, cheaper to purchase and savings on labor. You also never specify which Pex you are using. I use Pex Al, with an aluminum barrier that prevents oxygen intrusion and rusting components with better heat dissipation. Loop Cad is a program that will lay out the most efficient runs while keeping them as close to the same length as possible, costs a few $$$ but does the work for you. Lastly, a 500 foot run is ridiculous for efficient heat transfer. Your clients are spending more on heating the floor evenly and the cost to replace a 3 speed pump is a lot more than a standard one. Sure you'll get the job with a better price for less runs, but they, and you, don't know how much more they are paying in the long run. Buy once, cry once.

When you push that foam or any board through the table saw you should hook a few fingers over the fence that way if it kicks back the board won’t pull your hand into the blade.

Love your floors! So if when its all done you check it with the laser, what would you say your deviation is +/- I always run stiff mix and lacking skill I'll set some 1 1/2 conduit screed pipes on home made rebar chairs, I'm slow AF setting up for certain. Most of my outdoor stuff runs a double thickness frost block and fiber mix 4.5 5k . not had any cracks. Friend wanted pro-work done for a small machine shop, they were an inch high on the edges, can't figure out how unless they used a home depot 2x4 screed

I've got a basement that is about 2/3 of the footprint of my house and the remaining 1/3 is a crawl space open to the basement. I want to incapsulate the crawl and put down foam board. Should the foam board go under the vapor barrier or above it? I have no intension of covering it with concrete and I also run a woodstove in the basement.

Tape your floor insulation seams. Less chance that a smaller piece will float during the pour and it creates a much better vapor barrier. We put plastic down over the dirt first which is code here, I think.

Should have taped the vapor barrier joints and perimeter to make it more effective. 6 mil probably won't last too long. Use T&G insulation and stagger the joints to keep it from floating. Have you tried using fiber mesh, superplasticiser and shrinkage reducing admixture in the mix and then no need for control joints?

I've seen bondo hang a plumb from the wrafters after the pex is placed, and before the concrete is poured. The plumb will hang directly where the lag bolts will go into the concrete without hitting the pex

Nothing, it´s denser foam type for flooring and Styrofoam is mainly susceptible to sun, temperature about 40 degrees Celsius (maximum you ever should let go into floor heating) cannot cause any damage to polystyrene foam.

Why would they build something in front of the 'loading docks'? The one truck dock seems to be aligned with the new door, but the second dock is not! Maybe if they only have small box trucks using it, then they might be able to back in, but semi's or if another truck is at the left dock, you won't be able to get into the right dock!
