A Better Way to Plug a CPLD into a Breadboard

You can learn a lot by working with programmable logic. But it's often tough to choose a CPLD option that will be easy to work with during prototyping.
Because of this, Bil Herd set out to design a Breadboard Friendly module for CPLDs. He based it around a socket so you can change out chips with different features, and added all of the support hardware to the board.
This is the second version of the build, and resulted in a compact 40-pin board which interfaces will with a solderless breadboard.

Is there a big difference between this and the atmega 8-bit family? Edit: Okay ill just keep watching the video. Seems like there is a lot of differences. Whats the most common place to find these in, handling data streams?

Can you think of a practical example where you would use a cpld over say an arduino?

+I don't want a channel I'm just commenting basically every time sensitive task and/or tasks that would be to heavy for a µC. A CPLD (or quite similar a FPGA) are logic gates that can be programmed. they can be used from glue logic up to an ASIC substitute.

There seems to be a difference to 'solderless' as to 'soderless' I choose the proper one that has soder but not solder, apparently :\

If I need vendor-supplied-only software and/or a "license" to program and use a chip I pay for, I don't want it.
