When I record drums I also do a "sample" session recordings and will use them to augment the drums

Done this in studio one. So super easy. Litteraly drag a close mic track into the groove editor and drag it from the groove editor to a midi track. Triggering ssd5 or whatever

If the snare needs just that little bit of extra attack I use Slate Trigger and sneak in a little. Kick occasionally too. Only time I've ever used it to completely replace a part is to fix a demo recording from an old band where the primitive triggers the drummer used, going through an Alesis DM5 and really sounded like it, needed a lot of editing to clean up the double-triggers and the sound drove me crazy anyway. I like using then similarly to you, just to add something missing from the live performance if needed.

Amatuer recording at home, no space for a kit, can't play anyway, and my drummer lives in another state. I use and create from scratch using MIDI. Recently found Spitefire Audio Hammers 🤤 and augment cymbals with LABS and Session Drummer. It's fun! Kinda going for a cinematic rock approach...

I can't say i use samples much, if ever. Perhaps I am just the old man here, but i want to continue improving my mic placement and capture skills. There is no such thing as the perfect mix, which is fine. I DO, however, want to explore the idea of sampling the kit I am tracking, just to get some good clean hits to use if necessary. That said, i'm always down for learning, i just don't tend to go into any project with the immediate thought of "we're going to sample replace EVERYTHING!" All that said, nothing wrong with folks using samples and virtual instruments. To put this into perspective, if i need an orchestra, i CANNOT afford to hire an orchestra and likely wouldn't know how to properly capture the performance anyway. But i have drums, i have mics, i have a room, i have time. May as well continue working on capturing properly the things I can, and use samples as a "tool" as opposed to being my "go to" when the word "drums" is brought up. As always, its just my opinion, and your mileage may vary.

So, are you basically using this plugin as a drum replacement to put over your live recorded drums?

Question: I started recording our worship team at church. Unfortunately, I only have a mono channel coming from a Roland TD-11 V-Drum kit. Is there any way to use that to create midi data from the audio track or capture midi data to supplement the drum kit with Hertz? How would you go about enhancing a drum track like that? I'm not sure where to start on a problem like that.

Only plugin I have seen that has a feature to parse midi data from a mono or stereo track is superior drummer. Though it isn't perfect. Td11 should have midi, run a long midi cable if you can to your computer to get the data, that would be best.

There should be some digital output from the kit. Either a midi out or usb. In which case you would take that into a Computer running hertz or something else and trigger the sound just as you would in the studio as an instrument. Run the output of whatever machine is running the sampler into the board.

Sounds more like a promo for Hertz to me. Would rather see a product independent how-to personally. I have AD1, AD2, EZD2, EZD3, SD3, etc, and none of this really translates to "a better way to use DRUM SAMPLES [outside of Hertz]". Just calling it like I see it. /shrug Love the channel. Just not the cloaked product endorsements.

@@RecordingStudioLoser ... I keep coming back to this after tabbing out to my DAW to listen to some of my drum plugins. I'll give ya this, Hertz sounds good and their UI is pretty damn slick. Pricing isn't bad either! Promote on! 😊

I play drums and produce music a long time and I honestly can’t hear a difference between the two samples at the beginning. 🤷🏻♂️
