Let me tell my story. The Pandemic pushed me a little to let my grays out. It was such a struggle to be able to find appointments to get my hair colored! It grow fast and there was again me needing to get it done and so. I decided to let it go, I told my stylist cut it all, I did search haircut styles that suited me, and there was my fresh start. Since then, I have had most compliments on my hair than I have ever had!!! And most of them come from men!!! Some even asked me if it is my real hair or I have it colored gray! Incredible. Some even said, I want my wife to do that! My hair is now so healthy looking, no frizz at all!! I feel so sexy, confident and liberated. I decided to cut my hair short to be able to do the process faster for me, and because I don't have the patience to have half and half. I work and I wanted to be presentable, professional and do something that I can style faster. It worked like a charm!! Tammy go for it! I support whatever you decide to do in the end! Don't have to cut your hair for the process!!! Is just I don't have the patience for my situation. Do what you want and enjoy. I am really enjoying mine.

I grew mine out for a year. I started with a Bob and then went shorter with a pixie cut and loved the low maintenance of a short cut. I will say a short cut made the grow out process easier than fighting that demarcation line. I still love a beautiful pixie cut. After growing it for a year I decided that it made me look so much older and then decided i didn’t like it. People told me that it aged me and that i looked better with dark hair. People will be honest and say exactly what you think is rude and don’t want to hear. My own mom told me i looked too old! So i caved after a year and colored it dark and then a month later we went into lock down and i regretted going back to color and wish I’d have left the grey and let it grow long. Ignore the negative comments!! You’ll never know until you try. I’m sticking with the color for now and feel that i look younger with the darker hair, but one day i will go back to natural. Your hair will be healthier that fo sure. Do what you love.

Thank you for this video. I am a native Floridian that lives in hot central part of the state. Polk County to be exact. Understand the frizzes. I have long hair also. I am 57 and have salt and pepper grey as well. I understand the scalp being sensitive also. I go about every 5 weeks and have light golden brown put in. I admire your boldness and honesty. You will be an inspiration to so many. Being raised in the south, you are raised with, when you get to a certain age you cut your hair off. All my female relatives did that. They all looked just plain old, not their grey hair. You are a beautiful with your long hair. I appreciate you sharing about Lou. I too have a very special man in my life too. Added thought-I will be 70 this year in 2022. I am at the place where I’m going to do the best with what I’ve got, still want to lose this extra weight I put on the last few years but as long as I am still able to move and live without a lot of health issues I feel very very blessed no matter what color my hair is or what length it is. that to me is a personal choice it should not have anything to do with how people think of me. And like you said my husband of 52 years loves me inside and out. I feel the same way about him and that’s all that matters.

I’m excited for you! The entire time I was behind the chair as a hairstylist I would tell women (who thought they “should” cut/color their hair bc of their age)… I would tell them that they should choose a hair cut and hair color that THEY want. Not that some number dictates. I’d love check-ins. I think it’ll help so many women who want to do this too-and would love to see the process. Personally, I think gray blending makes women look younger than color 🤷 Just thought you might appreciate another option to go gray/white rather than growing the blond all the way out. Good for you!!!! I decided to stop colouring my hair 8 years ago when I was suddenly taken out of the workforce because of my health. It was amazing to me how brazen and unsupportive my “friends” were…..about a decision on my flipping hair! So many women said to me “you’re too young to be a grey haired woman, you’ll look old” etc. we need to change the way we define “woman, beauty, age, sexy” because any woman past the age of 30 is likely colouring over greys so why not just be honest and embrace whatever shows up with age? I will warn you though, the journey you are about to experience will be much more than just your hair color. Be prepared to also flip flop at least once a week. I remember reading once that you’ll know it’s time to quit the color when the color seems like it doesn’t belong, not the grey hair peeking through. ….I can’t even imagine how FREAKING GORGEOUS you’re going to look, because you are already stunning! Now add in glowing silver hair? Yowza!!! Have fun and thank you for this wonderful chit chat. The world needs more honest, blunt and gracious warriors like you 💝👑🙌 My tip to this journey, DONT fart around with highlights and treatments to help blend in the new growth. I was in a hurry to get the skunk look out and I destroyed my hair and it just took longer to get to my now silver shimmering hair. Be patient 🙏

Hey Tammy, I’m a brunette and have been dying my hair since 30ish (I’m now 60). I got tired of the white showing up 2-3 weeks later and tried growing it out unsuccessfully once. I had my hair longer and up in a ponytail and I thought I looked like my Italian Nonna. But 2 years ago I decided to give it another try and now I couldn’t be happier, I have salt pepper with a cute streak towards the front, I cut it into a stylish Bob and keep it well groomed. I wear snazzy sunglasses and I’m loving it!! Freedom!! I’m not going to lie it was the toughest for about 9months to a year because of the obvious demarcation with my dark hair but I stuck through it and I’m thankful I did. And guess what?! You can always dye iit back if you don’t like it!! But try to pull through till it’s all grown out before you decide. Good luck!!

I used the Loreal spray to cover up the roots when I felt I needed a pick me up. My hair was your color and the blonde color faded and the white started blended in hang in there..you will love it!

You are stunning, my friend! And the more your silver shines through, the more elegant you become. I grayed prematurely, and as a result, colored my hair for decades. I was salt and pepper before I was 30. I have grown my hair out to it’s natural silver-white twice. First in 2011 at age 52. 4 years later I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and lost all my hair to chemotherapy. When my hair grew back, it was thinner than it had ever been, and between the white hair and the chemo curls, I looked like my then 85-year old mother. So back to the dye I went. Then in 2020 when the world shut down, and I was teaching from home, I decided it was the perfect time to grow it out again. My transition was much shorter than yours will be since I had been wearing my hair short for all of my adult life. I am healed and healthy now, by the grace of God! Like you, I cherish life as I grow older, because it is not a gift everyone gets to enjoy. I find that my silver white hair brightens my face and lets me be me. I no longer have to think about coloring my roots every 3 weeks. I get my cuts and style it in fun and sassy ways. If you stay the course, and I hope you do, you will love your gorgeous white crown of glory! I live in Florida too, and like you, I’m a transplant from Western New York. Good for you! After my son’s wedding in October, I went from burgundy red to letting my gray grow out. (Tried once before and failed). Decided I just didn’t care what people said plus I was tired of having to dye it every 2-3 weeks. Well, turns out it was a platinum/silver color and it brightened up my face! Who knew? I started getting compliments on how great my skin looked, or younger. They all asked what I had done😂 Now I did have it bleached to minimize the harsh contrast, but parts only went down to yellow and I did have breakage. I put it in a ponytail or clip, and walk out feeling beautiful and don’t care. I also bought a couple of silver grey wigs and will try them for fun! I know this process takes a long time and I’ve made up my mind to love each stage along the way! I just turned 69 and God willing, I will be all gray at 70- my gift to me!

I can tell that what you have coming in will be just beautiful! If I had your nice hair I wouldn't cut it either but if you decide to do that then you are right...do what YOU want to do and own it :D I have never had a bad comment on my hair. I've had some people say to me that I looked younger when my hair was brown (on youtube not in person) and I just thank them and say I love my hair so I'm leaving it gray. I transitioned under a wig so that's another thing people didn't understand. The hair they thought was so beautiful on me was a wig. I could not have afforded to do that with my own hair at the salon. You are right about the hair and upkeep. I'm having to get a trim every 6 weeks. The young girls are where I get the most compliments when I'm out. Young women come and ask me where I got my hair colored LOL and I just say that God did it. I love my hair and that's what's important. I loved the little blackish nape that is now almost completely gone. I look forward to seeing it turn WHITE like my moms xoxo

I stopped coloring my hair not long after I turned 50 (Im now 62) before it was “the thing to do”. I had natural deep dark brown hair color and my white strands stopped taking dye so they really stood out. Coloring became pointless. I didnt have a lot of grays at the time so my transition wasnt dramatic. I gave it a lot of thought before I stopped though. I read something about how growing old gracefully is accepting the changes as they come. That did it for me, I didnt want to be fighting the aging process the rest of my life, Im going to age - I cant stop it. I had other things I wanted to do in my life and being concerned about hair color and “aging” wasnt one of them. Soooo….. After the decision was made I told my husband, my 2 closest girlfriends and my hair stylist. All supported my decision. My husband said “I dont care what color your hair is, I love YOU!” 🥰 I have had comments from people, some friends, some strangers, all have been positive. So many women have told me “if my gray would grow out like yours Id stop coloring” I reply with “how would you know unless you go for it, I bet it would be beautiful” others have said “Im not brave enough to stop coloring my hair”. Its funny, a lot of 20/30 somethings tell me “I love your hair! Im never going to color mine, I want my gray to show, I cant wait!” Its a very personal decision for a woman to make when shes standing at that cross road. I was disappointed when you decided to keep coloring your hair before. But Im excited for you now! I hope you will be able to continue this journey. For me, its been a journey of self discovery. I admit there were times when I looked in the mirror and asked myself “what are you doing?!?” Then I remembered “Im aging gracefully and accepting the changes as they come”. I want to look like the best version of me and other than my husbands opinion, I don’t care about anyone else’s. If you dont follow Jack Martin, I encourage you to look him up (hes on IG, FB & YT). I’m 56 and fully grey. I grew it out when I was 42 when coloring it became more of a necessity rather than for fun. I love the different colors and the shine. Yes, I get compliments. The other day I woman stopped me in a restaurant to tell me she loved my hair. I wish I could grow it long but when it gets past my shoulders it just gets too thin. There were some times when I thought about coloring it again but I’m glad I didn’t. It really is so much easier. It’s not for everyone but it is definitely for me. Enjoy whatever path you decide is right for you.

I finally grew out my grays almost 2 years ago and what worked for me was pulling my hair back into sleek ponytails and updos until it grew enough to go back to my chin length bob. Fortunately, my hair grows at an almost stupidly fast rate. For me it was about finally walking away from the cult of youth. I’m going to be 60 at the end of this year and there’s nothing wrong with that. We need to take back our power as women.

Hi Tammy I’m 64 and lost a terremendous amount of weight when I went through treatments for breast cancer. I too am trying to decide to let the hair just go natural. I too was a hair dresser stylist for years. The cancer has been just awful on my body. Changes of all kinds from different kinds of things! When I saw you Insta story yesterday it made me laugh about when you said your mother must have botoxed you as a child! Omg I died laughing. You should be a comic you are so funny sometimes. I do have Botox in my forehead lines…(give thanks to my dada for those awful inherited things). I also treat my 11’s. What peaked my curiosity is you stated you have Botox in the corners of your mouth. Can you elaborate more about why you do that. I’d like to hear from you since you do it before I ask my injector about it. I’m assuming it’s to keep the sides of the mouth from turning down…right? I’ll never do any Botox other than the forehead but now you have sparked my curiosity if maybe the mouth corners might be for me. I don’t do any fillers or lips. I’m to afraid of what id look like. Could you maybe consider a video on your esthetic treatments I’m sure you have a lot of followers that sure would love to hear what you do. You are one of the most beautiful women on KZbin and you keep things natural and beautiful. If I could look half as beautiful as you id be content. Just consider my video request or just message me that would be fine too. Hi Tammy, I am excited to watch this! Btw, I am a redken master colorist and retired salon owner of 25 yrs. I hope you will call on me if you need any suggestions along the way. There is no reason your hair needs to look frumpy or be damaged in any way going for your new look. If you want to cool the color of previous coloring, it can be done a little or a lot! There are many simple ways. A color you may want to check out is redken shades eq. It is actually more a toner / filler and where your previously colored hair may begin to feel thinner, more porous, it will fill it. The idea will be to keep it protected and strong, while new hair is growing as fast as possible. No reason you can not take your existing color to a shade that is complimentary. I know you have experience of your own and love to tinker yourself as I do, so check out the fanciful rinses and mouse colors you can wash right out. Platinum, white minx added to platinum, bashful blonde can be added to even your new growth to blend, yet washes right out with no damage. There are also cool colored shampoos that may leave just a little coolness to your previously colored hair (not blue shimmering lights, there are many new and more beige). Check out the newer RK shades EQ blondes. Remember, they can all be mixed with clear and applied to damp hair. I'm excited for you. I've always loved cooler colors on you and am looking forward to watching this journey. This could provide lots of information on ways to go about this process and how beautiful God's work truly is 😁 The other side can be a wow you have not yet seen of yourself! I've seen it happen many times over and I think you will love it. Any time later that you want to play it more platinum, you can simply add a temporary toner if you like. There will always be temporary options to play with. Meanwhile, take those vitamins and use leave in conditioning on your ends- fun, fun❣

I'm behind you on this 100%! I started going gray in my early 20's (I was brunette originally). I've been fully gray for a decade, and am now 58. I've never colored my hair, but I've always had a really good haircut that I keep styled/maintained and trimmed regularly. I do get compliments on it. In fact, a 20-something girl came up to me once and asked if my hair was natural or was colored to be such a silvery gray, because she wanted to get her hair dyed to be like mine. (I told her to just wait until she's 50 and she can have it for free!) Another time, a man walked up to me in a grocery store and literally thanked me for not coloring my hair! Plenty of men prefer a woman's natural hair color, whatever it may be! Finally, I know you said you would not want to color the ends gray to "get it over with," but check out Instagram posts from "jackmartincolorist". One day it could happen that you do decide to color the entire length gray, and his page just shows what's possible, even with dry/damaged hair (although it does take an entire day in the chair, and a lot of money).

Hope you are able to transition, I wimped out and cut my hair off when I was tempted to color it again, but it’s long again. I love the ease. Wish my back was more white, it’s a little mousy but I, like you, love the white around my face and I do get lots of compliments. The transition is temporary so you can do it I have no doubt! I’m told that I have always looked 20 years younger than my actual age, so when I told a friend that I was letting my hair go gray she lost it! She said that it would age me and why would I ever want to do that? Since I’ve gone gray, I’ve gotten so many compliments. Mostly from strangers when I’m out shopping or whatever. Yes I do look older but people still think I’m younger than I am. I’m 72 now and still love my hair! You are so blessed to have so much beautiful hair!!!! I ran across you again the other day and immediately noticed you were letting your hair go white. I remember when you tried it once before and then decided to color it. I think you will be sooooo thrilled when you actually get there. I love my white hair, it is medium long (about like Paula Deen’s but longer) I am 77 and will never cut it or color it again. I guess I was mid 50’s when I decided to go natural. My hair had dark coloring on it so it really was a drastic change(I looked like a skunk for along time) but I’m so very thankful I stuck it out. I get many many compliments on my hair and I’ve noticed something funny, a lot of the gals who say they would never let their hair go white much less have long hair, their husbands are among the ones that tell me how beautiful my hair is. One man in particular always after complimenting me turns to his wife and asks her “isn’t her hair gorgeous?” She says yes, yet I know by her tone she does not appreciate him saying that (her hair is very short and blond). Anyway, I am pulling for you. I do not feel I look any older but softer. One of the prettiest women I’ve ever seen had white hair with young beautiful skin (as you have) therefore I think you will be a knockout! The transitional journey does get hard but try to remember as you go through it how much you will love it once you have finished! Good luck! I am SO relating to you! I’ve had dyed dark hair to my waist for years that everyone loved, including me. But just the past few years, it began to look flat to me, too dark, too monochromatic, too easily broken due to dye damage. I suddenly began to CRAVE natural hair. (I was dyed blonde when I got married…loved that too) At 49, I quit dying my hair and held my breath a little. I was NOT going to cut it either, but dark to silver was quite the demarcation, and at about 18 months, I started trimming off dye. I regretted cutting it overall. I prob feel exactly like you that way…I strongly prefer long hair on me for many reasons. Frizz control being one of them. Now, at 30 months growth and all my natural color, it’s a nice medium length that looks good in different styles. I will not be keeping it this length though! I’m growing it, and I do not care that some people say silvery hair looks better short. I disagree. Take care of your hair, and any length can look gorgeous. Long, silvering hair is stunning, in my opinion. What surprised me all along is the emotional heaviness I did not know I was carrying in constantly telling myself my natural hair color was the unacceptable thing I needed to fix/cover every few weeks. Choosing to see the beauty of my hair in its natural form has been a revelation. Weird as it sounds, FOR ME, there’s been something very healing about it. I love my strong hair. Unbelievably strong, shiny, not coarse, silvering…but also warm taupe tones, gray and white hair. It’s the hair of many colors…furthest thing from monochromatic. I actually wish doing this would have occurred to me sooner…but if it had, I’m not sure I would have been ready. How that idea would amuse women of 100 years ago. I had to get ready to see my natural hair. And love it. You will look beautiful. (And your hair/scalp will be in the healthiest, best condition you’ve seen in years. We forget just how amazing virgin hair is.)

I got some negative opinions when I decided to go gray as well. Some of the opinions really surprised me as they were from normally very positive , open minded women. Some of the opinions came from people that were only talking with me on the phone and hadn't seen me in years or people in which they only ever had seen me wearing a hat etc. Anyway, I KNEW it was the right choice for me. I knew I could pull it off. Saves me a ton of time not having to spend it in a salon chair. Saves me a ton of money and better yet, I get to see myself aging gracefully a little more everyday. I did not want to constantly be shocked by seeing whiter roots come in every time. I enjoy doing things that most people stay away from, although I am seeing more and more gray haired and long gray haired women my age and older around town and they too look beautiful. My boyfriend is almost 15 years older and is almost pure white. He constantly tells me that he loves my " silvery strands". I can tell when he is looking and talking with me that he means it too. It makes me feel on top of the moon every time.

I have been successfully transitioning to silver/white hair on my own and my sister is in the process of doing so too with the help of a hairstylist that specializes in the transition to silver hair. Our hair is not short. We are happy about how our new hair color looks on us. Besides that, our hair is not dry like when it was when being dyed and our scalp is so much healthier. No more keeping up with dying our hair which is such a relief. You are going to look. just as beautiful with silver hair as you already are. There is a KZbinr that has really helped me. One of the reasons she started her KZbin channel 3 yrs ago was when she decided to go silver and couldn’t find a channel about transitioning to silver hair from dark curly hair. My sister and I both have very curly hair that was dark brown. The name of the KZbin channel is “Welcome to My Curls”. Her videos do focus mainly on her transition with curly hair but she does have videos that apply to anyone that is transitioning to silver hair. By the way, I love watching your KZbin channel. I’ve told you this several times before, although I’m sure you won’t remember me out of all your subscribers, but I think your hair is going to be absolutely GLORIOUS!!!! Every time you pulled your hair back or ran your fingers through it in the video I was blown away by how beautiful it is!! Yes, I have gone natural. I transitioned a couple of years ago and I haven’t regretted it for a second. The process was hard at first, but after my roots got to about five inches I was accustomed to how it was beginning to look so I wasn’t as “mirror shocked” as I was at first. I wore pretty scarves to help soften the demarcation line, or headbands. I also used the spray when I needed a more uniform look for a special event or something. I am one who sometimes gets a wild hair (literally! 🤣) and will cut it short so my hair didn’t take as long to grow out as yours will, but it still took me a year and a half or so. I let it grow until the roots where behind my head when my hair was pulled back and then I started trimming the color out bit by bit. like I said, it took about a year and a half for me. I think when your hair gets several inches of white showing, hair styles like a French braid will showcase it! I think two toned hair styles are cool. Anyway, I’ve rambled enough. Hi Tammy, I hope you stick with your journey through this. I am a dark brunette naturally and for years I died it jet black. My hair is long about mid should blade. I am turning 60 this year and I have always had long hair. A few years ago I got tired of colouring, I was having to colour every two weeks to keep up with the white in my black hair. I started to allow my temples and the under side of the back grow out. I slowly stopped colouring more and more from the underside that way it wasn’t as noticeable. Two years ago I stopped colouring at all. It helped that it was partly through the pandemic so I wasn’t seeing many people. I did shorten it a bit to finish off the process but only a few inches. Now I am happy with it and get lots of complement’s. Good luck!

I am so excited for your journey! I decided to go gray several years ago. And I love it. Our decisions to go gray are individual… Mine had to do with freedom from dye because it was getting harder and harder to keep up… It was the fear of the hair dye causing some type of cancer… And it was also a desire to be more natural: to embrace the The path of beauty God had laid out for me. I really love the way I look now, and I don’t think I would ever go back. In fact I’m sorry I waited so long. I think your are a natural beauty and no matter what color your hair is you’re going to be drop dead gorgeous. By the way….I also don’t need to be sexy for any other man but my husband… But I get a lot of men following me in the stores telling me my hair is beautiful and if they can take me for coffee… Can’t go to many places without my wedding ring on lol. Tammy, one thing I love about aging (I'm 58 next week) is that no matter how someone else feels about me & my choices, I don't care! I'm the only one living my life & I'll live it in a way that suits me because no matter what we do, people will have an opinion. Until we're happy in our own skin I think it's impossible to feel happy for other people. When someone says something negative it's usually because they want you to feel as rotten as they do. It must be exhausting to think that way. The older I get the happier I'm getting & wow that seems to annoy some people. Really, they wish they could find that happiness too & I hope they can. I'm just starting to get some grays & I love it! I've earned these beautiful grays. I started losing hair a few years ago and although you can now see some bald spots (esp when wet) it's taught me to be so grateful for what I have left on my head. For now the grays are staying but we're meant to have fun in life and if I wake up one day and I'm tired of the gray, I'll color it. If we have a decision to make in life, it means we have choices. How lucky are we! PS. Your hair is beautiful, every strand of it..!!

I’m glad you made this decision. I’ve already started my journey since working at home at the beginning of the Pandemic. My hair is very similar to yours and, like you, my crown or top of my head is all white and shiny, underneath my hair is dark grey. It blended in so well with my blonde, so it did not make a great difference. My hair is so long, almost reaches my derrière, and I am close to 60. Although my hair is dry from coloring it, I use good hair products and masks, so it always looks nice, straight and shiny. All my girlfriends love my hair and I get so many compliments, and it helps that silver / white / grey color is in style now. I get tired of straightening my hair, that I now let it dry naturally and I have such a nice wave that I’ve never appreciated before, which I now learnt to love. So I’m enjoying my wavy hair too, it has a beach wave look to it. Like you, I won’t cut it because I love to put it up, use hair clips, hair sticks and hair combs. When I sleep I do a high ballerina bun or chignon, and Its great, I feel no hair pulling. I have many zoom meetings while working and get many compliments from strangers on my hair. It was very easy and no hardship at all going natural white-grey. I’m now trying new different lipstick and eye shadow / liner colors to suit my hair color, also trying new styles of clothing, purses, jewelry, etc . . . I’m also changing my style a little too, so I feel like I am starting a new chapter in my life and re-discovering myself. It feels so good when I look at myself in the mirror and see no Roots, I love it. You are a woman with Style, so I know that growing your hair naturally will suit you very well, you take care of your hair and it will look so nice and soft. Enjoy your journey 😘

Tamie glad you are doing what you feel is right for you. During quarantine, my gray came in and I let it go to where my roots were about 4 inches gray. I kind of liked it.. but I didn't. My hairdresser said to me, let's not do your roots anymore but let's change up your color. I went from light brown with beigish highlights to adding some cool tone highlights and low lights. I can't describe the color but I love it. It reminds me of the color on your sides when you pull it back to show us - a mix of light blonde, dark blonde, and some white. What i love most is that I don't see my "gray halo" anymore. And, I can go almost 8 weeks without getting touch ups. I'm letting my hair grow so we shall see what's in store next. I always change my styles and length around and color too. I think you'll look marvelous and if you don't think it's right for you right now, .. then how nice you can change it! I’m in your corner! I’m doing the same. I do have salt and pepper in the front, and that’s exactly why I kept going. I have much less gray hair than I realized; it’s mostly brown with less red than I naturally had before. I love it. It brightens my skin and eyes. I refuse to cut it, too. I started growing out my natural color in Dec 2019 about 5 minutes after an overall color. Lol! I had my stylist tone it for a while due to dramatic demarcation line, then I stopped that. If I hadn’t toned, I’d have all natural. My natural color is almost grown out, but I too like long hair, so I’m not cutting the color off yet. It looks balayage-ish, and I’m ok with that. Good luck!

Hi Tammy...I totally understand what you are saying and how you feel...been there...done that. I stopped coloring my hair blonde about 5 or so years ago...due to the irritation my scalp went through every time I had to color my hair...and I was one of those every 3-4 week girls that didn't like the darker regrowth showing. For the life of me, I can't understand how that trend with the dark root area took off...but to each their own. I heard the comments...the good, the bad, the evil...but I just didn't care. I liked the "light" around my face and enjoyed seeing the variation in shades of my hair emerge. (My hair is like yours in the front...the dark down the middle...reverse of a skunk, I joke...but it ultimately ends up blending in.) I also went from straightening my hair to allowing the natural-curly hair have it's day. Let me say...it wasn't easy at first...but I struggled on. I had urges at times to just color it...but I bought shoes or a purse instead...LOL! Now, let me tell you...I have had and do receive many compliments from perfect strangers about my hair and style. I think you nailed the reason gray/white/silver hair appears to be aging...as it certainly doesn't need to be...is not considering the over all affect. I have seen many lovely silver sisters who are young (compared to me) and older...who look absolutely amazing. I am sorry to run on...and I'll just add that it's your decision...and you do you. I will say as I have said before...you have the most beautiful hair on youtube and I suspect it won't be any different with your silver threads. Good Luck on your journey!

Fabulous! ❤️ Silver hair can look so beautiful and striking if well taken care of and incorporated into an overall interesting look. Regarding “looking old”, there’s no fooling anyone into thinking that I’m still 50 for goodness sake and I celebrate my age because not everyone gets here! I went silver and wavy/curly in the early months of the pandemic working from home - loved it! I realized how much negative anxious energy had been going into trying to keep my hair looking “young”. Wish I had more silver but don’t want to damage my hair by bleaching the rest. I just get regular trims and wear my hair up a lot (I also keep my hair long-ish). When I got that silver halo around my face people started complimenting me on how great my skin looked - said the skin tone was so lovely with the brighter/lighter hair color around my face. Another added benefit is that although my hair has become thinner over the years, the silver color makes it look denser because there’s less contrast between my hair and scalp. Bonus! I agree with your comment regarding changing up colors - I wear brighter coloured clothes and want to have a pop of color on my face such as more vibrant lip color. Amazing that so many of my female friends said they’d secretly love to do the same but weren’t “brave” enough - a few are now starting the transition and I make sure to comment on how great their hair is whenever I see them. I’ve also said from the beginning that if I change my mind it’s just one hair appointment or a box of colour to switch things around, so I think that made me feel like it’s not such a big risk. I’d suggest anyone considering going silver in the future maybe start by adding very fine and very light high-lights to help reduce the drastic colour demarcation line and get mentally ready for the change in overall color. Try different styles, hats, scarves, etc to distract from that demarcation line if it bothers you. If you don’t mind short hair, get a sharp looking modern cut. Wear some bright colors and interesting jewelry Look to inspiration from the many beautiful silver-haired women on KZbin, Instagram, etc. Use blue or purple shampoo/conditioner to tone down the dull orange or yellow tones. But most of all - just go out into the world with a smile on your face, take care of your mind, body, and soul and know that you’re moving forward in your life as the brave and authentic person you are.

Oh Tammy……you go girl. I am 61 and just finished my two year transition to silver. Wasn’t easy BUT it certainly wasn’t the hardest thing ever. I had the same thing happen with someone in a store I frequent wearing her hair pulled back. Silver to the elastic, black from the elastic down. I wondered “why is she doing that.”. Guess what? When I finally decided to transition, we became friends and she became my biggest cheerleader and inspiration because by that time her hair was fully silver and beautiful. And as far as the length…..mine is longer than it’s been in a long time and people compliment me all the time. Im in your corner sweetheart!! You be you and ignore what others think. Im 64 and during my last visit to my holistic doctor (for a body scan) he looked at scan results n asked if i color my hair. I said yes. He then told me what chemicals showed up in my scan and politely said “dont color your hair-not good!”. Weve known each other for several years so i didnt take offense to his comment. He also asked about polishing my nails. These are toxic chemicals we are putting on/in our bodies to make us and our sweeties think we are more pleading to the eye. Hogwash! Tammy you are gorgeous, how blessed you are to have a hubby that supports your decisions. I always say im going to go full gray but my sweetie tells me to make an appt so then i do since hes paying for it. One day ill have strength to say no thanks, but like you mentioned-theres a stigma attached to it. When you see gray hair, you think “old”, but i think 60 is the new 40….and whats wrong with being old anyways? Im rambling, just wanted to say if you want your hair gray, be gray…tattoos are your thing, get tattoos, etc….we live our own life, dont let others live it for you. 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻

GO FOR IT!!!!! Personally I think from what you showed us with your hair pulled back it's going to be gorgeous! I started going gray when I was in my last teens. I'm now 100% white and I get asked all the time if I color my hair! I just laugh and tell them the color I use is called old age. I have been growing out my hair and I like it a lot better long than in a bob. I never colored my hair except for a space of about 3 - 6 months. Trying to chase the gray away was not for me. I gave up had my stylist get rid of as much hair color as she could then she dyed it the same color as my new growth which was white. It was so much easier for me to do it that way. If I were to color my hair today I'd be distraught because I wouldn't recognize myself and I hate that more than anything. I've had white hair for so long that people can't imagine me any other way. So, Tammy, go for it. I't s not like you can't go back and color again if you absolutely hate it.....but DO NOT as you say listen to the haters. Beautifully, kept gray/white hair is in a class all it's own and the burden of proof are all the women out there who are going gray, already gray and rocking it or trying to copy those of us who are already naturally gray by dyeing their hair our color ;)

Tried once or twice and then returned to coloring but finally decided I was going to be ok with my gray. I live in Florida too and deal with frizzy hair. When Covid came along, I also let my hair grow...had kept it short since my 30's because my mother always told me that a woman's hair needed to be short after the age of 30. That was true in her generation but our generation is not following that rule! I wish I hadn't waited so long to grow my hair longer too. My husband and I just returned from a trip to San Diego and as I was coming through the security, the woman looked at my license with my short hair, then looked at me and said, "Wow! You look a lot younger with your longer hair.!" Then she asked my husband if her liked it and he nodded, Yes! Guess my mother wasn't always right!

I made the decision about 10 years ago to stop dying and for about the first year or so it seemed all I could think about was my hair! I too decided I was not going to cut my hair, I like my hair long period and I was not about to go through two different transitions so my line of demarcation was very interesting at times, to the point that some younger girls would think I dyed it that way, they loved it😁. Any way I could go on with a lot of stories, bottom line, I am glad I did it, I do not regret it, I get more compliments on my “natural” hair then I ever did with dyed hair and my hair is still long, about the same length of your hair. It is important to stay current in your dress, makeup, etc. so you will have no problem you will look just as beautiful no matter what color your hair. Confidence is the ultimate and best accessory and that my dear you have plenty of!

Hi Tammy, commenting here from the UK. I'm about to go on a similar hair journey myself. I am a natural redhead with long curly hair. I was bullied at school because of my hair colour, so I spent decades bleaching and then dying my hair, for what? So other people would accept me? Ridiculous. Anyway, after my wonderful Mum died nearly 20 years ago, I suddenly started going back to my original colour, knowing how much Mum had loved it. Ironically, after 14 years or so, once I was menopausal and then post-menopausal, my hair started coming in the kind of strawberry silver that natural redheads go when they lose their pigment. I then had people hurling their opinions at me to dye it red, because they said it was beautiful and Pre-Raphaelite! At that time, I was struggling with the ongoing symptoms caused by a massive inoperable brain tumour, and the dyes were causing havoc with increased headaches, dizziness etc. Stupidly, I continued colouring, but now I have found that my always tender and sensitive scalp is becoming worse, and partly from chemical processes, partly from post menopausal hair thinning, I've started losing clumps of hair. I've (at last) decided that enough is enough, and I'm growing out the dye. Like you, I'm not going to lose my length, that is unless the hair loss worsens, and people will just have to live with me doing what is best for me. I don't understand the distaste and downright anger that women show another woman for deciding to go grey. Who do they think they are?! I think the youtuber you were talking about is Nikol Johnson, who gets a lot of stick for having thick dark eyebrows but white hair. Unbelievable, especially as she was a very successful model. Why do women go along with the sexist and ageist, in fact, downright misogynist ways of an unfair society? We should be celebrating and bolstering each other, supporting all women and building the up, not tearing them down. I hope you'll continue to discuss your progress on this greying journey. Hi Tammy: I am 60+ and did exactly what you are planning. It was a long process and it took3+ years for my hair to be long enough to get a long bob of all natural hair. During the first year, when I decided to “go natural,” the hair at the front and top was 50% white; I used temporary blonde colouring (lasting 6-7 weeks) on the natural part, to blend it in a bit; I put my hair up all the time when I went out; once my natural (70% hair white) was long enough for a long bob that I could put up or leave down, I cut off all the bleached hair. Since cutting off the last of my bleached hair, I got a lot of compliments from strangers (women). Do I get told my skin looks great (“for my age” is unsaid)? Yes. Did I have to change my makeup? Yes. Did I change my wardrobe? Yes, less black, brighter tops. Have the attitudes of sales clerks changed toward me? Yes, they tend to ignore me. Am I tempted to colour it again? Not for a second.

I had 4 inches of roots then decided to go to a colourist to blend the roots. I loved it ❤️ hubby not so much ☹️. Maybe it was not the right time but now I have been mulling it over again. The one thing I have noticed with any of my friends who have gone Grey is how HEALTHY their hair is. My hair appointments were always foils in three tones ( not soaking my scalp) before the Grey but now it’s just soak my scalp with dye and my hair is more damaged. I was around 65 when I finally went grey!! After 40 years of coloring I felt like a burden was removed .. a bird out of a cage.. I get so many compliments and love it.. Now 73 and I have curls!!

Welcome to the Silver Sisters! You are a beautiful woman no matter what you decide to do with your hair and I think you’ll be stunning with a glorious mane of silver. I look forward to hearing your tips for taking care of gray hair because I believe that not knowing how to take proper care of it is part of what ages some women. I feel lucky too because I’m snow white in the front with more silver and light brown in the back. I hope my entire head goes all white just like my Mother’s did…it was so beautiful! I finally cut mine to shoulder length recently after it had reached the small of my back and now have decided that I’m going to bob it in the Spring for the warmer weather (Chicago). It’s funny because I never colored my hair to hide any grays, but spent so many of my younger years with all different colors (and lengths) of hair. I stopped coloring it many years ago and am so glad I’m no longer married to a bottle of bleach or color…it’s very freeing! I’m the same way with length…I do whatever makes me happy and its been below my butt to buzz cut and everything in between. I stopped caring about what other people thought of the way I look a long time ago. I’m 62yo and too old for that! 🌸

Trinny Woodall said recently that polls show that it's skin mottled by sun damage that the majority of respondents considered the primary sign of aging, not hair color or wrinkles. Personally I think posture and the way someone moves is the primary indicator of age. My hair went gray prematurely, and I get nothing but compliments about it. I colored it for a few years, but my hairs grows so quickly that became a huge pain. My hair is also long. It's funny to me that in the not too distant past females never had short hair. When they were seventeen or eighteen their hair was put up in a chignon to signal they were young ladies. I agree with you---wear your hair in the way that makes you happy. You look lovely and just wait 'til you are free of spending time coloring roots.

Awesomeness for you!!! I am 65 and my skin is not wrinkled. I take care of my skin as you do. People say I rock my gray hair . My husband and other of my friends husbands think it’s so classy and they say I look sophisticated. I also dress in a classy way. I always do my makeup and dress very nice. I always get compliments, I even noticed younger men will be attracted to me by how they look at me, and my husband will say a little comment. You are gonna look awesome as well. Young girls are going gray that is why I jumped on the band wagon. I also wanted to tell all women that you are gonna go bald by dying your hair or have healthy beautiful gray hair I was losing hair and now it growing strong and my hairdresser said I have a lot of new growth. Gray is JUST A DIFFERENT COLOR!!!!! It’s gonna be beautiful 🤩 good for you. I love my healthy new hair and my blue/green eyes pop.you are so beautiful.!!!!!

Go for it Tammy! You will love the final result. You definitely have to be ready to commit to it because it does take time. I have made the transition and I am 59. I had blonde hair like yours and about shoulder length. I have been gray for 5 years now. I am so happy that I made the commitment. You don’t have to cut your hair! I kept mine the same length throughout the transition. People made comments and it did sting a bit, but I kept going. Now; I get compliments all the time. My hair is so much healthier without the dye. I just went to a new stylist after a recent move. The stylist was amazed at how healthy my hair was . I no longer have to keep up with the root situation. I don’t have to deal with a burning scalp. I just get a trim every few months to keep my shoulder length style current and use purple shampoo. I am holding my grey head high as I enter my sixties! Your color gray is coming in so beautifully. Just imagine what it will be like when it gets longer! It will be stunning! I agree everyone should do whatever makes them happy providing it doesn’t hurt other people. After cancer my hair came back thin. I decided to keep it short to make it seem a little fuller. With VERY short hair it meant I could not color it because roots showed too soon. However I did not like the dark salt and pepper look. In spite of makeup and jewelry I felt the combo of very short and the salt and pepper made me look masculine. I am back to my stylist every 4 weeks to keep the style sharp looking BUT I have streaks ( yes the old fashioned cap, not foils) every 2nd visit done in a bright light silver and I LOVE it. I guess what I’m trying to say in all this rambling is that sometimes the “grey” is fab but sometimes it’s drab and doesn’t do anything for you and it needs help to get a pretty tone of grey or silver . Oh if anyone is curious the reason for the cap and not foils is he is able to get the color onto those very short bits that look natural

Yay you! You will love the freedom. I've been rocking silver strands for ages and ignore all the naysayers. Long grey is cool! I just lived with the demarcation, in your case since you are blonde it will be subtle.

Hello my beautiful friend. I bet you thought I died well one year ago I almost did. I did not have Covid, I had double pneumonia and septic shock. I was in the hospital a very long time. I was severely malnourished, had been on keto, then was too sick to eat for a few weeks before roger has to call an ambulance to get me to the emergency room. Now remember I was like you and had very long hair. To my hips to be exact. Well I was so ill it caused my hair to fall out. Now I was not completely bald. But it stopped falling out after about two months. My Dr put me in propeica 1 mg to see if it would help it to grow back and it did. It is now only to my shoulders. It’s been a long process Tammy. I had said for years I loved long hair for the same reasons you do. So easy to take care of. Now that it’s very short it’s so hard to fix. For about the first four months after it fell out I did have to wear a wig when I went to the Dr. Then I had enough growth that I could style it somewhat. Can I tell you how horrible this whole experience was for me? I think in the past several years I was your most commenting fan on you tube. So you knew a little bit about me. Or maybe even a lot. Just thought it was time to check in with you. I am still in recovery. But today I felt well enough to write you a small novel. Much love ❤️

Kudos to you Tammy for being authentically you and comfortable with who you are and what you want. 👍👍👍👍 It’s no one else’s business what you want to do with your hair or any other part of your body. A negative person is the most unattractive type of person no matter what age they are or what they look like. I recently turned 63 and I am a natural blonde but I do have a lot more white hair coming in now. My hair is on the long side, middle of my back. I’ve never colored my hair, but I have gotten highlights twice. I was just thinking this weekend about the possibility of coloring my hair and was going to talk with the stylist about it, but I changed my mind as I saw my hair in the sun and I really liked the color … at least for right now. And, like you, I will continue to keep my longish hair as long as I can physically maintain it. In recent years, I have had at least two women who also had long hair compliment me on my long hair. They were about my age or maybe a bit younger and they looked great. And they were both with handsome husband. So, I support any woman who wants to wear their hair long, short, colored, natural … whatever. It’s about feeling your best.

Tammy…good for you girl. Do what YOU want for sure. My grey is strongest around my forehead and temples, and I was touch up colouring almost every 2 weeks…ugh…I decided at 56 to stop the madness. That was 2.5 years ago. I didn’t care how it was going to grow out and basically…my grey is only around my forehead and temples. It really didn’t come out anywhere else, so I have this amazing grey in a unique way. I love it.❣️ I so agree with you on the aging process….love who you are, where you are.

I remember the negative comment you got, and noticed that you colored your hair shortly after. You will have bad days….just roll with it, and hang in there. I am going on this journey with you, I am a brunette, so you have an advantage with your blonde hair. I look like a skunk, so imagine the contrast. My hair is also long, and I am a year older than you. It is hard, yes, but think of how your scalp and hair will benefit from your choice to age gracefully. I will not cut my long hair,either, but thought that getting lowlights put into my hair might help with the skunk look. I wish us both good luck on this journey, so stay strong, and I will too. I think it would be great for you to share your progress along the way, and how you are feeling. There are a lot of women that are on this same journey. My hair is my crowning glory, and it is going all white like my grandparents did, while my sisters are going more salt and pepper. When you wear your hair in a loose bun on top of your head, you look very sophisticated with your gray hair…it looks beautiful!

Good for you! I’m 68 and quit coloring my hair 8 years ago when I retired. Wish I had done it sooner. It is very liberating. I hope you love it as much as I do. You can try toning down the yellow with purple shampoos.

Yep - agree with all of the other Ageless Beauties weighing in here Ms. Tammy - nothin' but jealousy with no place else to go apparently. Some women are just so locked into behavior patterns that they've probably had all of their lives and don't even realize how obviously nasty they are to others. I think it's often rooted in anger that accumulates over the years. They don't seem to be able to find a new way to exert or express themselves in the world so...they just get better and better at being mean. I will say the timing of this video amazes me because I have been thinking about doing the same thing...AGAIN ! I went au naturale in 2011 (in my mid 40s - it was a big fad then) I grew 3-4 inches of roots out then bleached what was left - big mistake, won't do that part again. 3 months later my hairdresser gave me the Victoria Beckham bob which made it 100% my hair. I really liked it for a while but during the following 6 years I just could not find my comfort zone and did all kinds of things like growing it longer, back to short, low lights, glazes - you name it. I probably spent more than I would've had I just kept coloring the roots brunette every month ! After an accident I did go back to my level 4.5 brunette and have been there since then. I have done your oil treatments and did see a definite difference as I was doing it every 2 weeks for about 3 months. I'll be getting back into this soon. I know my hair can only get healthier if I stop coloring it. This is getting way too long but thanks again for being such a bright, happy, genuine, funny and inspirational part of my day Tammy !

I'm so happy you've made this decision for yourself. I can't believe people think it's their decision. That's not a mature way to behave and they're just being mean. I know who you're talking about, with white hair and dark eyebrows. Nikol Johnson. She's a very strong woman and (btw) has a wonderful cosmetic line that she uses when she does makeup videos on older women. She doesn't push it, like most people with a makeup line. She also uses other brands. You don't look old with white hair. You look incredible. Yes, please do updates about how you feel about the process. I have grown out my gray, but I'm going to color it again. I was a natural redhead and I have the fair complextion to go with it. Gray does not flatter my complexion. I know I could warm up my complexion with makeup, but I don't want to. It's my complexion and I like it (I'm 68 and it took me decades to reach this point). I hate coloring my hair (can't afford to have it done), but what I hate more is the color gray. I detest that color in everything, including the sky. The only gray I will allow in my life, that I can control, is pearl gray paired with either pink or yellow. Therefore, the dark gray my hair is MUST GO. If it were white, like yours, I think I would like it, but it's not. People tell me my gray isn't ugly at all, but what matters is what I feel. Just like you. xo~linda

Tammy, first I just want to say how much I love your authenticity, it can be a bit sparse on social media, if you don't know where to look for it. You are a beautiful woman inside and out, nothing you do to your hair will ever change that. If I could, I'd like to touch on the "why" part of " why do women have this uncontrollable need to put other women down...especially when it comes to hair?". I am not a psychologist, nor a psychiatrist or a therapist but I have seen all 3 ...um, a lot. We will just leave that there. I also come from a family in which my Mother and ALL of her 5 siblings are bi-polar. So, I have perhaps more experience with battling mental health situations than some. Here is what I see in my own family and circle of friends. Our hair as young girls is one of the first things I think we become concerned about, and how it looks. Certainly earlier than make up, I know I had my own desires about my hair when I was in grade 1. On the first day of school my mom forced me to wear pig tales, I hated those so much I ripped them out on the bus, but not before a few naughty boys saw them, and teased me. I also didn't really know what to do with my shoulder length hair after I took out those dang pig tails. Luckily I had a girlfriend, my best friend who was 4 years older than me...she had ALL the hair info, and paraphernalia - hair dryer I curling iron! So, I learned how to style my hair early on. I actually always dreamed of being a hair stylist. Well the Lord has blessed me richly but not so much in the hair department. Again, I come from a long line of over weight women with extremely fine, poker straight hair that begins to thin out, leaving some very bare spots by late 30s. My Mum is 72 this year, she has had a pixie style cut for the last 25 years or more because she has very little hair left. It has been a very very troubling thing with bald spots and what hair she does have is super fine. What I have witnessed is when my Mom is spiraling she will say things about other women's hair...She's has pretty much - forever been at me to cut mine, or at least stop colouring and highlighting blonde tones. I finally asked her " what the heck is up with this nonsense?"...it a nice way. She told me that when she is spiraling through a manic episode she is so angry at other women who have never had to deal with the years and years and years of hell of unruly, fine, limp hair she gets SO angry that every woman she sees with nice beautiful hair, just infuriates her more and more and more till she explodes and tells some poor woman in the mall or on social media or the person serving her in a restaurant that they should "cut their hair" . Now, I'm not in anyway suggesting that every woman who has this desire to say nasty hurtful things about another woman's hair is bi-polar, but I will suggest that there are some pretty serious emotional health situations going on because it is just not normal to have such extremely intense feelings about another person's hair, and that comes from my psychologist, phcyatrists and my therapist. I have many problems that I work on every single day of life...being filled with unnatural emotions about someone elses hair, thankfully is not one of them. I've had to learn to live with the fact...I am never going to have this lush beautiful hair, and thanks to social media...now I know that half, or more of the women we see on tv/ magazines, and now on social media, don't either. It's fake! Whoo knew!! I am thinking about investing in a halo, it seems to be the best of both worlds, gives you some fullness and does not cause any damage as its not tied in, stapled in, strapped in, glued in, frozen in or any other dang thing they can do today...and hey, if anyone wants to do anything to THEIR hair...go for it!!! Do whatever makes your heart sing!!! I hope it's ok that I shared this perspective from someone who has seen and heard those very unnaturally cruel comments come from someone, who otherwise, is a very good and caring person. I love my Mother very very much. She has some incredibly wonderful traits and is one of the most giving people I've ever known in my life, but she battles her own things everyday...and one of those things is I guess some major hair envy. I love you and I'm so incredibly thankful that I found you here so so so many years ago! Back when you were selling the martini masks! That long! 😘💋💕

I am so glad you took that decision, because I was worried about your Beautiful hair, Color and bleach always damage your hair and make it fall off . You took the right decision, your hair is more important than anything else, you look beautiful with grays or not gray do go for it ! I have 99 percent gray, but I don’t color my hair as I used to. I did color my hair Silver last time and it didn’t even show off the gray because it kind of blends in. So you have that option. In my case I am not coloring my hair at all, I just want to keep my hair healthy, I do have Long Hair, I did cut it a few months ago, about 4 inches, but it’s growing back again. But I am not coloring as I used to color it. I need to take care of my hair to keep it long. I am a few years older than you. And I will add that I have been following you for a couple of years, and I believe you are the most Beautiful Woman and you have a lot of good advice for mature women. 🙏 Thank you so much for being there , giving us advice and all your knowledge in Beauty. There is freedom from colouring your hair! I tried previously to let my hair grow out naturally but caved during the process and went back to colouring it. After a week I was sorry that I had. About a year later I again decided I was going to let it grow out and I now have silver hair. My hair at the back is much darker but around the front it is very white with some darker bits and I really do like it. I use a purple shampoo as needed and the white part glistens. When I think about how much time I used to spend booking hair colouring appointments around social events, so my silver strands weren’t showing, it just makes me so happy that I don’t need to do that anymore. It was the right decision for me but I just needed to be ready for it. I’m looking forward to seeing your hair change and I would like to hear updates on the process. Your hair is beautiful, Tammy and I’m so glad to hear that you won’t cut it. It does tick me off when I hear some of the mean things that have been said to you about your hair etc. it serves no purpose other than being mean-spirited and a keyboard bully!

Seriously I don’t understand why women want to put other women down When we should be lifting each other up! I’ve been going back-and-forth with long hair below the shoulders and currently a short bob. I think I mainly just do it whenever I’m up for a change. There are some pluses to having short hair but just like you said you’ve got to get it cut more frequently because it loses its shape! I will be 59 next month. But I still don’t have a lot of grays, it’s just a few around the temple. Was having my hair colored all blonde for the past year and a half, and then a couple of weeks ago we put some lowlights in it. It’s still a work in progress though😁 I did get very sick last weekend and it’s taking a while to get come back from it and it just seems like the lines on my neck and my face have personnified this past week!🙄

Tammy, I'm right there with ya!!!! During 2020 I had let it go for a very long time and hesitated before I went back to coloring.....but I did it. Today I am 5 months from my last coloring and I'm once again making the same choice you are. Oddly....seems I'm getting in some really dark strands with my "white/silvers/grays". I've been a blonde all my life....so seeing these nearly black strands it strange. It is what it is! Also, the more solid 'gray' my hair is getting the wavier it is getting. Anyway...I'd love to see the check-ins. I think maybe you will help me stay motivated to keep the chemicals off my scalp!! I have told myself I will give it a year (October '21 - October '22). P.S.
