While I agree with Esfands points as a whole, I just find it funny that the issues he is speaking on are some of the same things that streamers, including the one he is reacting to, also engage in. They actively farm the same outrage and engagement trends. Regardless of what Dragon Age Veilguard is or what it was, I can actively recall Asmon as you say, "looking at 1 frame of a trailer and calling it crap", he said the graphics were some of the worst he's seen in a game etc, even though most rational people have said that the graphics of the game was one of it's highlights. He later played the game and liked the graphics as well. (that being only one of numerous examples) Ultimately what I'm saying is that, so many people are hypocritical and it's hard for myself and I'm sure others to hear them say one thing, while doing another. Creating this needless cycle of hatred and double talk at times. While this isn't always the case and he obviously isn't the only one, regardless of you wanting to say "it's playing the game", "playing it up for content", "playing a persona" etc. I just think it won't really push for a genuine change in gaming culture as a whole when this dichotomy exists in the space.

The for profit mindset( whether you want to call that corporate greed or not) is still a capitalistic mindset. Understanding how politics affects games and game development helps us determine how to fix things. Saying that it’s all the same does nothing. It’s like using “woke” to describe bad games. It does nothing as it’s a word that changes meaning every month. It doesn’t tell us what is bad about a game and how to fix things moving forward

the protaganist being black was genuinely a clown move and if you looked into why you would see that. the yasuke character never existed in the way claimed. ubisoft claimed he was real and a samurai. he was not a samurai, and the evidence proves this. you want to cry about identity politics on asmon's side, but not about ubisoft purposefully making a game driven by identity politics. could have easily made yasuke some actual real african folk hero but instead they went with yasuke.

I don't completely agree with Esfand take about the new ip being shit on because there has been a lot of new Ips that this did happen to. for example Crimson Desert, Warhammer Rouge Trader, Exodus. Usually when people shit on new ips is when they are from devs that have shown in the pass that they will write characters that are for that mysterious "modern audience" and also show that they will purposely make the player mad because they think they are a movie director. He's very boringly just copied the "critical drunkard" and "nerdrotic" templates. Hundreds of great games a year come out that people can easily play instead. It is very easy to ignore things that dont interest you. Alternatively, hundreds of bad ones come out too completely unrelated to "DEI" yet they only focus on the bad ones that fit their narrative. They scream from the mountain tops about female characters that don't look like Margot Robbie with 44DD boobs and say thats why the game sucks and then fail to recognize all the games where the main character looks like their male fantasy of Conan the Barbarian that still suck. This is just grifting. The impact of "DEI" is nowhere near big enough to warrant a new video about it every single day. He's just farming his intentionally cultivated echo chamber base.

Asmons movie analogy was actually stupid. Indie and small budget movies have been more and more prominent each year. Asmon just cant stop being cynical and only sees negative in everything. He legit watched the intergalactic trailer and said based on what he's seen it cant be good. After speaking with Bungie they realize the resources needed to maintain their live service game would harm their single player games. They restructured to accommodate making big single player games and also acquired talent, just recently the former artist known for all his work at Santa Monica that moved to Netflix joined naughty dog. @@EsfandTV Most of the critiques I've seen of the "anti-woke" crowd lately have been directed at people who don't like Ciri as the MC in Witcher 4, though there's been more of that talk than actual complaining about Ciri it seems. Personally, I just don't think it's the anti-woke crowd driving studio's to focus on remakes/remasters and sequels. I think it's a deeper systemic issue within game studios these days. For example, From Soft can do whatever they want and it'll sell, same is true for atlas, nintendo, etc. I think it's studios that lost our trust a while back and need to re-earn it before we'll respect announcements they make.
