Holy autograph.... See you in my next life after I'm done practicing this. Thank you Jeremy! If I ever become a decent jazz pianist, it will be because of your videos!!

Haha, there's definitely a lot to work on! I'm sure you'll surpass "decent" quite easily, Timr!

Holy Autograph for sure !!! So many thanks for so many interesting ideas and details (enclosures in the arpeggio exercise - omg!). When i first watched this video and went to the piano the next day i found myself wondering "why did he start descending from the iii chord?" Then i realized: "So the left hand can start a tenth below on the I and i have a mellifluous exercise for both hands that my dogs (and hopefully spouse) can tolerate. Jeremy, you're a genius (but you knew that)! Same idea works with the R.H. a sixth above the L.H. but they will share one note so you have to be alert. I'm now playing these in all 12 keys (Gb is a bitch!). I like practicing the same thing in both hands, but unfortunately it means i've never been able to play anything very fast. 😇

Again I love how you show the intent of the improviser. Any can say practice the diminished scale

my pleasure, Ted! There's so much more to it than notes...and Bill Evans was certainly a heck of a master.

Darn it, Jeremy! You’re too kind, (of course good lookin😅,) smart, inspiring and full of wisdom that your videos keep me from working on your book! I especially like the use of passing chords in between diatonic 7th’s and also inserting enclosures! How do I apply these exercise ideas to the blues form and the blues scales? Maybe you can do a video on that?
@JeremySiskind
@JeremySiskind Жыл бұрын
Cool question! Remember that the blues just has chords like any other piece...there are just more options, but I'd start by arpeggiating the chords just like you would on any other piece.

Hello Jeremy! I always love your instructions. Were you also using inversions of the 7th chords sometimes (rarely though...I thought I heard)? Is it OK to add inversions in the certain situations or it's better to play only root positions in this exercise? Thank you!
@JeremySiskind
@JeremySiskind Жыл бұрын
Absolutely - you can stretch this exercise as far as you want. Try some inversions if that seems to be the best fit musically!
