Thank-you!! My dad served most of his National Service with the RAF at Edzell in the early 1950s. Aside from stories of drunken shenanigans on nights out in Montrose, he often spoke about a local walk along the river that you accessed through a door in a wall with a shaky bridge across the river. But he has no photographs, so thank-you for bringing his stories to life for me... It looks an incredible walk. Better still - I will show the video to my dad in the coming days. He has dementia. Your Montrose tour video got him talking when I shared that with him last year. I'm really hoping that he will engage as much with this one!! Oh... and Happy Birthday!!

Happy Birthday Steve! U.S. Navy retiree stationed at Edzell 1974-77. We lived in a flat in Kinnaird Castle Brechin then on Christies Lane in Montrose before moving "onbase" to Perry road. BTW streets there are still named after US Naval admirals, Forrestal, Halsey, Perry. We had ONE RAF officer on base as "The Queen's landlord" and a few hundred American sailors, spouses and kids. When we arrived in Scotland we walked the cable bridge from Panmure Arms Hotel Edzell to the base before we got a car. Thanks for the tour and bringing back fond memories of Scotland and the wonderful people of Scotland that made us yanks feel so welcome.

Happy Birthday young man! Today I took the time to read all the information you get if you click ...more. I have to say that I'm very impressed with your stand on advertising and sponsorship. It gives you even more credibility, which isn't always the case with KZbinrs. Your commitment to a weekly post every Saturday gives us, the viewers, a degree of anticipation because we know it's going to be there, whatever else happens, around 10am every Saturday. Unlike many KZbinrs, however, you haven't sacrificed quality for quantity and meeting a self imposed schedule. As you say, not every episode can be an intrepid adventure, but you've carved yourself a niche that works for you, and for us. Thank you and long may it continue.

@@steve-marsh- Steve, just an observation from an angler's viewpoint, look just past Ms. Alicja's right side @ 14:26 and I believe you'll observe a fish channel carved into the river left, as viewed when coming downstream. I believe it would be used by salmon or trout to re-access their spawning grounds upstream. As for your earlier observation about the river's dark water, it indicated to me that the water was slower and deeper there, so my immediate thought if I had the fishing rights there, would be to run my lure or live bait through that area for lurking larger fish. This river walk, while not fast-paced, is to me a magical exploration for fishing possibilities and new experiences just around the corners for my camera to record. Thank you both very much for bringing me along as I truly loved today's adventure Mr. Birthday Boy. Congrats and many happy returns.

Captivating video! Hi from the middle of the USA, St. Louis. I'm another Yank who was stationed at RAF Edzell. We explored the Blue Door and Shakin' Bridge often, and it was fabulous! Happy Birthday 🎂. My eyes were drawn to the rocks . Once a geologist, always a geologist. Those red rocks - sandstones laid down between 408 and 393 million years ago. All tilted from their original horizontal position. And the swim ( once a swimmer , always a swimmer) . Ive been crocked for a year now. I mean practically housebound. Lovely therefore, to be taken to the two things I love the best. Thanks

We went to Edzel back in the ‘90’s on The 4th of July to celebrate American Independence Day. The, then, US Naval Airbase in Edzel was open to the public and had lots or fun fair, stalls, military showcase stuff, lots of American cars as most of the airmen had brought their own cars over to Angus while they were based there. The main event was a full American Football game between the US Airforce and US Navy. You had to exchange your £ for $ at the entrance and reverse what you had left on way out. The Main Street was full of American cars for sale as they had already decided to close and pull out back to the US. While it was an American base there was no British contingent based there.

We were stationed there when it closed. The hangers contained a gym, theater, and shopping complex. It was a communication base . Where you pulled up was the only entrance. You actually drove right by our old house on Halsey drive. They also had base housing in Brechin. The city leased a whole subdivision to the base. I can't believe how little its changed since we left in 1998. There's really not much to see on the base itself though. Thanks for including RAF Edzell in the video!

I spent much of my childhood picnics at the shaky bridge and did the same with my own children. In the early 80’s it was closed due to state of repair and the 45 commando group took it on themselves to restore it, which they did, restringing all the cables etc. I remember them working on it. We used to walk up the near side approx a mile to the road crossing bridge then walk back on the opposite bank and finish across the shaky bridge. I have never seen the water as low as seen on your video. Great memories Steve, thank you.
