Awesome playing can't wait to try this one. Hopefully it will sound good in DAD tuning.
@MrWireguy3 жыл бұрын
Not so sure if it will work in DAD.....But I do know it WILL work in DAC. I just used B,F#, aa because that tuning works better for my voice which is very low pitch. Have fun with it !

The tuning is a bit odd, but really just a lowered version of DAC. All because it just easier for me to sing along with that tuning ! Hope it can be of some use to you.

For a very new beginner, would this also work if you just strum all the strings straight through.
@MrWireguy5 жыл бұрын
Oh sure ! You can strum all the strings while you fret just the melody strings. I have picked up a kind of odd strumming pattern where I like to keep that drone bass string going in the background. As you grow into the instrument, your picking will become a little more varied to add some "color" and character to the tune. I believe when it comes to Mountain Dulcimer, there is no right or wrong way. If YOU like the way it sounds, and it doesn't clear the room....then go for it. I always try to keep the origins of the instrument in mind, where there were no music teachers, it was all by ear, and you taught yourself out there on the front porch on a Sunday afternoon. Maybe I am too casual about it all...but hey...its gotta be fun! Go for it !

@@MrWireguy Ok. Thanks a bunch. That's kind of how I see it as well. I really like the origins and the tradition in the dulcimer. It's just a cool instrument. I'm gonna give it a shot. And I love the slow songs. I think of myself as more of a balladeer anyway. And Scots-Irish to boot. Lol.

@@MrWireguy Thank you, I really enjoyed these tunes and the way you play them. I am very new to the mountain dulcimer. I really love the way you keep the drone string going in the background. Gives a lovely haunting tone. Looks like you are strumming the drone string on the return of your strum, roughly every 3rd strum, depending. I'm going to try that! Thanks for the inspiration :)

How or where can I get the tabs for this song ? House of the rising sun, love the you play it.
@MrWireguy4 жыл бұрын
Do you have a 1.5 fret? If so so can play this easily on a DADD tuning. If not, you can tune the two melody strings down one step and that works very nicely. Your not the only one to ask for tabs to this...so stay tuned... I'll try to either tab it out or do a bit of a tutorial on it. I just hunted around till I found the notes that matched the melody in my head...but the DACC tuning sure makes it very easy to play. That tuning also gives you access to other tunes that you would not readily play in DADD tuning.
@MrWireguy4 жыл бұрын
Another option is to use the little "gear" at the bottom of the youtube video and slow down the playback speed....the sound will be a little funky but you will be able to see clearly each fret that I use...and of course....make the strumming your own !
@Richw554 жыл бұрын
@@MrWireguy Yes I do have the 1.5 fret ,I built a baritone dulcimer but I made it a 3 string I made it with a 1.5 & 6.5. I will try slowing it down and try to pick up the notes if that is alright with you, I don't like to hack some else's song without them saying it ok , it is just for may fun anyways, but still it is you work and I will respected that, Thank you. Rich

@@Richw55 Sounds like we are on the same frequency ! I built myself a second dulcimer a while back and since converted it to "baritone". Changed to heavy strings, tuned it to AEA, eliminated one of the melody strings....now its my instrument of preference ! If you do happen to tune down to DACC, "El Condor Pasa" sounds pretty sweet on the dulcimer too. Good luck with the tunes.....Trouble is: So many tunes....so little time ! Cheers
