You know I always enjoy your pods very much and this time was no different except for the fact that I am completely blown away by your beautiful blanket!! Wow, it certainly is stunning and I'm now stash diving! Your cardigan is also amazing and you've inspired me to pull out my cardigan to get it finished. I live in Texas where it's really hot so I had put it away...now it's getting down to the 90's (whew) so I can once again knit on it while inside under my fan! LOL Hugs from Texas!!

I enjoy your podcast so much. I come for the knitting and your reflections on life in general. Something you said here about taking care of ourselves…to include that which brings you joy….what a fantastic reminder that I certainly needed to hear. I’ve been thinking about Stephen West projects lately, so seeing that blanket and what you’re doing with the Linen Quill. Oh my. It’s breath taking.

Hello! Thank you so much for your kind comment! I’m so glad you connected with both the knitting and life talk this week. Love your blanket! Re: picking up stitches at an armhole or neckline. I don't know if you have seen this method, but it's easier to "hit" the right final number of stitches if you divide the circle into segments (like 3 or 4 equal segments) and divide the total number of stitches the pattern tells you to pick up by the same number. Then you are picking up fewer stitches before realizing you could be off track, rather than getting all the way around and coming up with one extra or one short, as you mentioned has happened to you. For example, I just picked up 66 sts around a drop shoulder sleeve which I divided into thirds, so 22 sts by the time I reached marker 1, 22 more between 1and 2 (now 44 sts,) and then the final 22 between the 2 and around to the first stitch I picked up. I stumbled upon this method on Petite Knits video tutorials and have had success with it and thought maybe you would like to know of a way that could ease your "aversion" to picking up stitches on your projects.
@AnotherKnittingPodАй бұрын
Hi Anne! That is my method for picking up stitches too, but its just annoying work isn’t it! It takes forever, and I end up with a cramp in my neck from hunching over. I usually do it standing up and that does help. It’ll be fine once I get going but its just the dread of the thing!
@annehuntley2318Ай бұрын
@@AnotherKnittingPod Glad you did know about dividing the circumference into segments. Another thing that helped me immensely has been knitting socks. Picking up stitches with fingering weight yarn on tiny needles along a heel flap has forced me to develop better ways to hold the needles and yarn and how to watch my posture and relax. Now when I do a sweater sleeve pick up, it seems SO easy to me. Happy Knitting. Love your pod❤

Always Be Kind yarn is a great choice for self striping yarn in the US. A lot of her profits go towards mental health charities because she lost her daughter to suicide. I really enjoy her yarns but they are a splurge treat for myself because I live in Canada and the shipping costs are ridiculous. She also has stitch stoppers if you are still in the market for them. Her yarn is well made and priced very well. Can’t wait to see what you get. I love knitting socks with self striping. 💜

Another great pod! 🎉 I liked Zauerball Crazy for socks - a little while like Spincycle ( altho not as incredible) with color change but not exactly stripes. Books: you cannot go wrong with anything Liz Moore writes. I have read and loved Heft, God of the Woods, and Long Bright River (which I think you've read). And there's a short novel called Glorious Exploits that I really enjoyed- very different! About two friends in Sicily way back in 400 something BC but the dialogue is all in today's lingo, and it's both hilarious and heartbreaking. It involves putting on a show! 🎉 I am struggling thru color work sleeves with shorties - seemingly never-ending 😢
@AnotherKnittingPodАй бұрын
I know…shorties are tough on the hands. Definitely have to take breaks to make it work. I do find that magic loop + colorwork is a horrible combo! I love Liz Moore so much! I haven’t read Heft, it is on my list! Also Zauberball has always been on my must-try list. I think I will have to get some asap. The colors are so beautiful.

For self-striping socks, I like Knit Picks Felici. In the past, they have had a June and November release of colors (they are one-run prints), but they didn’t release new Felici this past year. However, word is that they are bringing it back in November. I loooove Sharp Objects! Did you watch through the credits in the last episode? If not, be sure to go back! If you haven’t seen Big Little Lies (also a limited HBO series), I bet you would like it too. It has so many fantastic actresses!

Yes I heard about that last scene and went back and watched it! I wish they had gone a little deeper into that ending. I wasn’t ready to give up that world. And yes, I did watch BIg LIttle Lies. I liked Sharp Objects better though. It was such a unique and compelling story.

Oh, I am so glad you found a way to use all those colors in one project! So I might have to make a mini one out of all those sets that I have purchased and never used! Linen Quill is on my radar for Andrea Mowry‘s new sweater it’s called right now. I’ve already got my colors picked out, but I haven’t purchased it yet because I have so many other projects going right now. OK, I might’ve already asked you this and forgive me if I did and I can’t remember, but there is a smallish yarn festival in Kansas City in March call the unwind retreat. Are you by chance going? I don’t have any good friends that knit, so I’m looking for friends to hook up with when I get there. I am only attending on Friday. That’s probably quite a drive from Denver, but just thought I would ask .😁
