I don't mind the merch, but what I'm worried about, is "Chapter 2" and Steam's 2 hours refund policy. All I can think about is Banban. The segment before the chase is very good-- we get to look around and interact with characters. The art for rearranging the clues is fantastic (and you could tell how much fun Manly had with that). The dilapidated area is also cool/spooky at first, but I think it wears off quickly, because it's pretty much just looking for doors. The chase itself looks frustrating, and I can't even tell if we're looping or not. If the game ends up being a bunch of long hallways/mazes, long chases, with tedious puzzles (or frustratingly difficult segments), pad out to hit 2 hours of gameplay... Well, just... be careful, okay? I'm saying all this because I don't wish the series to fail. I think I'm not the only one thinking of Banban.

I bet the "long layout" is intentional. It would make sense for filming purposes. Instead of going to, rolling in, or building a set for each scene, it would be convenient to have it all in a line so the camera can follow on a rolling truck or rail. Not practical for personal use. Neither are mansions, but here we are.

Positives: - Good aesthetics - Pretty good animation - The drawing variety seen in the solving seat is great - The flashlight puzzle solving isn't bad, and hints you can see hidden entities with them early - The live action performer with the animated characters cutscenes capture the Blues Clues aesthetic great Negatives: - The big spooky revealed too early, like right at the beginning - Little to no build-up for the horror - The hints relating to the horror aren't subtle - Having two flashlights when you can turn them both on at the same time feels redundant - Gives me garten of ban ban vibes - Mint and the red one are very low poly - Mint could be interacting with the live action performer more, or at least looking in their direction when they're talked to - The elephant in the room. Does it really need a chapter 2 when chapter 1 is barely 20 minutes long???

The foxes are cute, but, yeah, the segments before the chase started seem stronger. If anything, the chase seemed frustrating. I can't even tell if you were in a loop or not. But then again, I get the feeling that maybe they intend to get their profits from merchs, over people actually buying the game? I suppose it doesn't matter to me either way. (Because I don't play these games to begin with.) Well, I'll just watch. All I can hope is, they won't try and pad out stuff to hit the 2 hours mark. But I pretty much just agree with Manly. The live action, the segment where you just woke up/exploring the whimsical world, whimsical dialogues, and even pre-chase segment where you explore the dilapidated area, were all pretty neat. I especially liked the clue thing. It's just the chase that falls off for me. The dilapidated area also falls off quickly, because I feel that there's "nothing" there, unlike the "happy" area, where there's a lot of things to look at and to interact with.
@JorgeLopez-qj8puАй бұрын
Yeah but that's the expensive stuff, its much easier turn off the lights downgrade the graphics and have something case you. Just count the amount of money lost on each voice actor and the meta joke of using somebody cheaper for the live action. Not trying to be mean, but their already asking for money on top of pushing for merch. Compare giving the chapter 1 "demo" how long, in this video and that with Manly giving commentary. They know where the money in it is, stuff like Indigo Park had more "content" in my opinion.

@aquablast3155Ай бұрын
@@JorgeLopez-qj8pu I don't think "that's the expensive stuff" makes sense, because: 1. I don't think it is-- They only have 2 voice actors, and they are the devs (see credits at 17:51). I highly suspect the guy doing the live action is also Grant himself; 2. Even if it is, they should still do it because they've already done it in chapter 1. Otherwise they should have went for something budget friendly to begin with (which I believe IS what they did, by voicing everything themselves). I don't mind them asking for money or pushing for merch right from the start either. We all need the funds to support ourselves. It's not wrong to want to make money. What would be wrong though, is making a Banban. (Making a product that doesn't warrant the price.) From what I've seen, I don't think they have enough content for multiple chapters. (I'm happy to be proven wrong, but, I also could be right.) If the next chapter is filled with chases (especially with high game over rate) and lots of wandering aimlessly in samey looking maze/hallways (or perhaps with lots of tedious puzzles too), then, yeah, we've got another Banban on our hand. BUT, that hasn't happened yet, so I'm not going to assume that this is 100% going to be another Banban (but I'm wary), hence, I'm giving my feedback now to hopefully warn them in case it would become another Banban. This is all I'm trying to say. Also, I actually love Indigo Park. They actually did hire VAs and good composer to compose their music. Even though they're relying on fundraising to continue development... that is fine. They KNOW what they want to be, and they went all in in their first chapter. I feel that they have a strong vision of what they think would be successful, and they would probably not stop until they reach it, or run out of money first. (But I suspect they're willing to look for a publisher, if it comes down to that.) But Indigo Park is a grand vision, so, probably not fair comparing Mint's Hint to Indigo Park. As long as Mint's Hint doesn't turn into another Banban... that's all I ask for.
@aquablast3155Ай бұрын
@@dragonflied3 Grant himself commented and said he could use the financial aid, and, again, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I just hope they're not trying to experience making a Banban themselves (and there are signs-- in fact some people probably have concluded that this is just another Banban/Bendy/etc). If they end up making a Banban, their reputation will be marred, so I think my concerns are pretty valid. If you haven't spotted the signs: 1. Multiple chapters game, with a concept/story that probably can't last for multiple chapters; 2. Ready to monetize their mascot (not really an issue for me, tbh, but it's a sign, when combined with other signs); 3. The dilapidated area shows a bit Banban-like design, as the hallways/maze looks the same and there's no real content there (scattering notes around would not help, because that's what Banban did); 4. Frustrating chases potentially designed to keep a player in the same area over a long period of time (the foxes were spawned really close to you, also, samey looking hallways); 5. Other similarities like art style/mascot design (this honestly shouldn't count, but it's still something that might cause people to make a mental link, especially combined with other signs). (I'd say 1, 3, 4 are the real concerns. 2 and 5 wouldn't be an issue on their own.) I don't think this is necessarily going to be a Banban, but, it could be, especially with a just few more bad designs (like tedious puzzle, platforming, and more hallways/mazes with nothing in it, all stuff to pad out gaming hours to avoid Steam's 2 hours refund policy). I'm not declaring their failure, I'm saying all this to hopefully prevent them from experiencing the making of a Banban.

i have been told by my family that despite being under two years old, i had an argument with my parents over the fact that Steve was no longer the host. i have no idea what exactly i said, being a literal toddler, but my mother remembers i just pointed at the screen and asked 'who's that' at Joe, and when she told me it was Steve i refused to believe her - the exchange went back and forth until she had to look it up. somehow we had missed the college episode when it first aired.

"Or this game that takes a childhood thing and makes it DARK and TWISTED" This was called ahead of time, and it is....really sad.
@cosmicskydragon333Ай бұрын
I think this has potential but the pacing was off and this is more of a demo then a chapter. The fact we had this colorful world, and rather then hint but rather bluntly says Mint was killed, feels a bit off. Even the title screen it starts off showing Mint as evil. We don't need to pretend it isn't a horror game, but we don't need to go straight into the depths. Horror works through creating tension, then capitalizing on it with something to shock you. If you try yo shock people too quickly then the tension doesn't build and the horror part isn't scary. Similarly you don't want to give direct final answers. By outright telling us that Mint was killed we write it all off as a ghost (or a metaphor for cancellation) the only other narrative hook is our character (which we have no idea who they are) and nothing other then we were kidnapped. Since you only had the 1 puzzle to solve and 1 chase it is hard to click with the mechanics to know if they would be fun and you as a player want more. If there is a chapter 2, have more meat to it and a bit more incentive to continue through hooks. An example of a hook would be finding a cage instead of the saw in chapter 1. Mint was captured and we don't know what happened after but we know they are trying to kill us for some reason. Also maybe have 1-2 innocent puzzles before going straight into the evil one. *This is advice not fact

There’s a lot of potential here, I think. Very impressive for a single person or small team (not sure how many folks are working on it), lots of cool ideas for mechanics and lore. The pacing is the best aspect: snappy, purposeful, contained And I really love the live action video integration. It’s a clever concept overall and I can’t wait to see chapter 2!

I'm oddly excited for the next part in this somehow. Quite a mixed bad, but it's somewhere on the "so bad it's good" list.

I think rather than a chase there should’ve been more interactions with the alive objects in the dark to contrast with how they act in the light. Short chase sequences with more exploration in between, or being able to use the flashlight to distract them maybe? There’s so much charm that’s lost in the dark chase scene. I think jump scares would work better too, because after you see the foxes in the chase scene a few times they’re not so creepy. Great concept, especially good with the live action. If the creators take some feedback to heart to rework it a bit it could be a really great horror game.

I seen a bit from these developers and I think they have a really cool aesthetic in their game, some really cool concepts for character design, Well non-human character design, and some pretty interesting concepts. I'm just not sure if they really that good at mechanics. But they are like a two-person team so.
