I, too, love that clip. It reminds me of my own baby boy back in the mid-70s. His first reaction to a drizzling rain was to rub his head and say, "Yuck, yuck." He hated being dirty. He's now 48, a mechanic, and still hates being dirty. Lol. He's still so precious!

I think you should consider making the storage bay wide enough to hold a riding mower with the size of your property. As you continue to reclaim areas a walk behind mower might take too much time from other projects.

I was thinking the same thing. My husband has a riding lawnmower as we own the property next to our house and planted a low water usage wheat grass on it. It only gets mowed in the fall, but it would be a huge job without the riding lawnmower. He’s 82 next week and still doing yard work!

Hi John, as a suggestion regarding the roof of your hobbit home, you could grow grass sections in smaller squares somewhere on your property. In them you could scatter some other seeds eg flowers. If they are 30cm square you could then harvest them to place on the roof. Just a thought. Goodluck with this project. I also love how everything is growing, including little Crusoe and Sawyer. Watching this video (didn't finished yet), but I just felt I had to make a suggestion to John. By your description on the new build, why don't you make like a "Hobbit house"? Pulling the new build slightly towards the direction of the farm. It wouldn't impose it's presence when looking down the valley from the future new house. Just a thought... Finally you mentioned again about the pond project. I already thought I had imagined it. By the way, I can't wait to see the new house project. So much, I even imagined and sketched a few ideas myself. As I told you, I absolutely love too see the evolution and your dynamics. We do cellar here in Finland this style to "take" warmth from the land during the winter-time. Must be a nice "not garage" also. Enjoy the warmth where you are if you have it. We had -14,2° today...and by the way we made a few rolls outside in snow in between the sauna(+80°)...naked and walking without shoes 😂 So do not worry about those little angels stepping around in "cold"...we people get used to everything. I personally can't swim in "avanto"(our word for a hole in ice at frosen lake or sea) but many people here swim in there around the year. I will keep on dreaming about summer though snow is very bautifull. Everybody, have a nice week!

John- I love your sod-house ( roof of soil , and/or grass ) ! It will be especially interesting if you make the dirt 10-12 inches deep and plant a spring blooming bulb, followed by a summer fragrant ground cover (jasmine of some type?) or maybe a quick growing rose that would take you deep into Fall! When you demolish the derelict house and the house you're living in now for the new house, I'm assuming you'll be living in the stone house. Will John be able to save the new kitchen he built and install it in the stone house? It's such a beautiful kitchen. It would be a shame to demolish it.

Exactly Joan, this is sort of the plan, getting a little ahead, and some inspire for what’s coming up, but we expect that very early next year we get the planning permits through, as soon as that happens we will start to look to do a full and complete renovation of the stone house, moving the kitchen across, new floors windows bathroom plumbing electrics etc, then we will destroy this house and the derelict house and begin the new house. 🤞🤞

Just from experience, garden shed storage needs to be larger and the door wider. Like double the width from what your working with now, like 8ft wide shed and two three foot doors. Love the dirtscaping over the top and maybe some grass and flowers on the roof!

Nice work on the greenhouse Tara; we purchased one a couple of months ago and my wife has turned it into a she/shed - lol. Limited room remaining for her potted plants and no room for growing any young plants. I think John's storage shed is going to prove too small to store all of the equipment you will acquire to maintain the farm.
