The Barons wars made a huge influence on Edward 1. And how he dealt with his nobles. Edward the second unfortunately thought England was his personal bank to dish out gifts to his favorites. Well done!

Brilliant video. He had big shoes to fill, just like Richard II and Henry VI had although both of these were minors. Strange that it seems to be one good king, then a bad one, then another good one. Strange also that fathers and sons (or grandsons in Richard II's case) can have such opposing personalities, and it was these personalities of the king which had a great deal of influence in determining the governance of the realm during personal monarchies of the middle ages

These are really good videos! I started watching them with this one, because I found out while doing my family genealogy that one line goes back to the Plantagenet kings. My 22nd great grandfather was Henry, 3rd Earl of Lancaster, brother and heir to Thomas of Lancaster. One source says that Henry joined King Edward II’s wife’s rebellion against her husband, captured the king in Wales and was appointed to take charge of the king and was responsible for his custody. He was then appointed head of the regency council for the new young King Edward III. He helped Edward III end the regency and tyranny of Roger Mortimer, and Henry had Mortimer declared traitor and executed.

What a great lesson on favoritism, and the havoc it can cause, his other major mistake is having his wife sent away on his behalf, he was foolish to think his wife would have his back at the expense of her family.

Edward I’s children by Margaret of France were not Edward II’s stepbrothers, they were his half-brothers. They had the same biological father. They would be only his step siblings if they didn’t have a shared biological parent.

Hello. Glad you are enjoying the series. Yes this has been brought to my attention. Although "coronate" as a verb in relation to crowning a sovereign seems to have become a word today, being found in many an online dictionary, I acknowledge that it has been improperly derived from the word "coronation". Hopefully context will suffice for the videos that I have already posted, but rest assured, crowned will be used moving forward. Cheers!

"Jew" was not a disgusting term until .... the 8th century Khazarians redefined it to validate their violent & deceitful identity as a tribe! Suddenly Khazarians took on a newly invented religion... using Babylonian witchcraft... through the Talmud (not writings Revealed or mandated by Holy God) - and ever since they presented that fake religion as Judaism. Of Israel it ain't!!

I read that he was homosexual. He had his "partner" but his father made him get married. They say that the wedding night he spent it talking with his "favorite" paying no attention to his new wife. Then, the wife sought a lover and they put the king in jail and sent a guy who introduced a hot iron into the king's outlet, making him die from internal causes. No external marks were left on the king's body. It is said this was one of the reasons for this method. The other, they said, fit his personal life. Now, I wasn't there. I read all of the above in an Encyclopaedia. If it is true, I don't know

Great video but I must point out that English Monarchs were not coronated, they were crowned during their coronations. In British English 'coronate(d)', meaning crown-like, is used in architecture and biology but not for the crowning of a person.

Everyone who thinks or feels God doesn't care, is indifferent and or mean etc …. Why is the world as it is, evil everywhere… where is God and His faithfulness… God does judge sin which is evil and if people don't stop sinning they will die for that disobedience, that sin. When God said if you take from that tree you will die He was saying if you disobey, you sin, I will punish that sin because God does punish it, sickness, demons and death. And if you keep sinning I will punish you to the point of death, is that punishment. Sickness is a consequence of sin and it is a judgement God makes upon the people for their sin. All sickness takes its toll on the body and will result in death unless you stop sinning and that brings a reward from God for the righteous decision to stop sinning that brought that illness. Throughout scripture God tells us these things. God does love and there is mercy in His punishment too. He chastises those He loves. His wrath doesn't mean He doesn't love, it doesn't mean there is no mercy, it means He puts His law first and He obeys it first. He punished sin and then punishes sin and so forth and if someone doesn't stop sinning or sins more then that judgment is death just as He said, sin is death. Scripture says we are all responsible for working out our salvation with fear and trembling. Seek scripture, learn who He is and what He said to obey and do it. if you obey Him you live in blessings just like Deuteronomy 28 says and it also says disobedience is curses, that's sickness, demons possibly and again to continue in sin results in death. God told all the details, and paid for us to get out of sin and how we should live and when people don't live righteous then the world looks like it did in the days of Noah, violence, drunkenness and such lovers of self, pleasure and all sin and life apart from God, life in disobedience to God. Why should He bless sin? He punishes it then punishes sin more if someone keeps sinning. Is it tough people die from that choice they make, their sin and lack of seeking God to obey what He said, yes it hurts. How do you think God feels, He loved the world so much He gave His only begotten son and Yeshua died in agony for us to be out of that sin, taking God's wrath upon Himself so how do I think He feels, grieved so grieved but I know from scripture He always obeys what His word says, He never changes and that includes every word He said. Now Yeshua took God's wrath upon Himself for our sin Isaiah 53. We get peace with God and can come before Him to be heard and we get to be cleansed from our iniquities, sin. Just like the lamb sacrifices in the old testament Jesus was that for us a peace offering and forgiveness offering. We get freedom from that sinful past, from that sin and we get our healings because His stripes healed us from the consequences of sin. He gave us a way out. A way to start again out of that wrath. How loving is that God gave us His son who took God's wrath for us out of love. How loving just how loving is our God who made a way for us to be out of that wrath? Wrath we deserved by our sin and continued sin. But God so loved the world He gave us Yeshua. Yeshua gave His life to rise to life for us to give us new life. A new creation to begin again a new life, having been born again. Having received forgiveness for sin and a pardon from God's wrath, that very wrath you talk about. But God gave us a way out of His wrath when Yeshua our lamb paid for our sin. Again how loving is that our way out of God's wrath. Our new life. Our second chance to live rightly before our Holy righteous God our being born again to live right because God planned for us to not all receive His wrath yet His son for everyone, one for everyone and a way out, pardoned and free to live life righteous whole healed delivered, how loving oh so very loving that is. All that is in scripture too. Seek and find, learn who He is and obey and see more of it. Mark 4:24 the more you obey God the more He reveals to you, it means that. Matthew 6:33 live it daily and understand who He is and just how loving He always is and honestly how loved you are will be seen felt and KNOWN too. 💕 May you come to understand Him all your days seeking and finding and growing in the knowledge of God in Yeshua's name 💕

I am really enjoying this series. For this episode, I find it impossible to really understand what happened, in terms of identifying the causes of these problems. How much was homophobia, and how much was truly poor leadership by Edward II. I'm not sure that a "just the facts" approach can be used here, since naturally anything contemporary would share the homophobia.

I think the bigger problem was that he had lousy taste in men. If his boyfriends had been less egregiously disrespectful, boastful, and cruel to the other members of the court, the relationships could have been overlooked or just written off as "sworn brothers." The disrespect shown to Isabella and her family in particular was a grave affront to important allies, which then came back haunt Edward years later.

Unfortunately, history shows that with the Plantagenet Kings, they had their good kings, then the next generation would prove to be rotten rulers. If you don't believe me check it out for yourself. Henry II good, John Lackland rotten, Edward I good, Edward II rotten, etc. And everyone praises Richard the Lionheart who Hated England with a passion was barely there for six months thus England ended up with his brother John who was terrible.

If we accept the red-hot poker up the arse version of E II’s murder as truth, I’ve often wondered if E II’s assassins (along with the rest of his detractors) viewed his COD as more symbolic than simply a forensic countermeasure? That said, if we look at it as a symbolic statement against a king who favors his favorites sexually and not just intellectually and/or emotionally, we must also acknowledge that our modern concept homosexuality did not exist at that time. Incidentally, even the term homosexuality, along with its variants, was nonexistent in the lexicons of English, French, and Latin. So we can’t simply call out 14th century folks as a bunch of homophobic Christian zealots who blamed E II’s failure to launch as a monarch on his sinful nature. A sinful nature including, but not limited to laziness, excess, ennui, and an unbecoming love of lowly pursuits such as roof-thatching, cart driving, and rowing. Hmm…homophobia may not have been a thing in 14th century England, but entitled elitism certainly was. I feel Edward’s dad (that’s King Edward to us low born folks) was the medieval equivalent of a Karen. However, homophobic statement or not, being murdered in such a way is completely horrific and I don’t believe anybody who denies having the uncontrollable urge to clench their butt cheeks at the thought of it. Moreover, the act itself is easily recognized as an extreme power play. Apparently, Roger Mortimer felt sufficiently socially and politically elevated to display a newly acquired power and authority over his former king…a king who, sadly, has fallen so low as to be in the appropriate position for taking one in the arse, as it were.
