Absolutely timeless too. Finally got to play with one recently, and it was able to replicate sounds from every era, from 70s prog to 80s new wave to modern EDM and dubstep. When an instrument can still sound new and interesting 50 years later, you know it’s something special.

Doug David Cool! It was around 78/79 I got my first Minimoog brandnew from Coast Music in Costa Mesa, CA. for $1900.00. I got my second one used from a friend in the mid 80's for $400.00. Ended up selling both in 88 for $150.00 each., and it took a month of ads in the local recycler to finally get someone to take em off my hands lol. Ended up with a Minimoog Voyager years latter, and like you will probably never get rid of your D, I'll be hanging on to my Voyager till my demise.

I just bought the reissue, I didn't know I could love a synth like I love my model D !
@chrisstrobel34397 жыл бұрын
Niklas Gindler I remember the feeling .. 1978 after having saved half mowing lawns all summer, my mom drove me down to Coast Music and chipped in the other half and we came home with a brand new shiny Minimoog Model D. I learned all the ELP and Yes Minimoog solos, and a couple things by Chic Corea and I was on top of the world with my whole music carrer in front of me. Man was I thrilled with my Minimoog, it sat on top of my Rhodes 73 Stage and next to my Hammond B3 for 10 years. Little did I realize thst day I came home with it 10 years latter I'd be selling it off for a hundred and fifty bucks to help pay for some digital synths lol, took quite a while to find someone to buy it as well (and I was in Los Angeles to boot!) Nobody wanted the poor Minimoogs anymore. My how things have turned around after all these years. I bought a custom tiger oak Minimoog Voyager last year and am just as happy with the tone as I was with my Model D, I just couldn't justify paying $3500.00 for the same Model D I sold years earlier for $150.00! But for you guys who have never owned a D back in the day I'm sure its money well spent for you! Its a mighty fine synthesizer! Don't sell it! Ever! 👍🎹

Niklas Gindler Ohhhhh ya I know the feeling. I was that way with my Voyager last year .. after Moogs annoucment that they were discontinuing the Voyager, and re-releasing the D, I just HAD to have a brand new Voyager with pretty blue backlit panel before they were gone into oblivion. I found the limited run Tiger Oak one I ended up getting, but had to go through some pretty rough hoops to come up with the funds. Are you going to be gigging with your D? If so I highly recommend getting a flight case for it. The wood on my D started getting pretty dinged up moving it from gig to gig in only a blanket. I actually bought a second D in 1982 used from a friend with an Anvil flight case, I still have that flight case (though the foam has disintergrated) and it made life ALOT easier on the road (it has wheels) Ok now you need a Hammond B3 and Leslie 900 😁

What was old is new again. The most recent artist to use the Minimoog Model D is Disclosure on their EP "Moog for Love". Love the deep bass sound it produces which I think is missing in most digital applications. Nothing wrong with digital but analog has more soul and the Minimoog MD certainly has it.

Thriller, the song, actually used an ARP 2600, per Anthony Marinelli (who programmed the synth) and Greg Phillinganes, who played it. They went with the ARP, because it was not limited by the low-note priority of the Minimoog. I believe that particular ARP had a knockoff Moog filter. So, the sound was very similar to a Minimoog.
