It’s only a turn to the left, but the concentration to drive on a constant knife edge bumper to bumper is pure ecstasy. Nothing beats going 3 wide lap after lap and holding those perfect lines. As a Brit, it took me a good year to fully grasp the etiquette of Oval racing, even understanding how to control your car once you’ve been caught out in a wreck is in itself a skill of its own. But once you’ve got the right mindset, I think oval racing on super speedways is unbeatable.
@_gr1nchh9 ай бұрын
Thanks for giving credit to ovals! I know some road racers think it's just turn left all the time but there's so much more that goes into it. Love seeing veteran road racers give oval some love and job well done! It's not easy racing at plate tracks, especially when it's not your main form of racing. Good job, Dave!

Only advice I have for ya is there are times in draft racing where dragging your brake instead of lifting to slow up is much better, it helps you keep your forward momentum which is obviously key in this type of racing. Literally adds tons of work to the physical aspect of sim racing but is definitely beneficial to getting the runs you need on cars

Road courses are actually more work... zero time to relax. However, those short tracks are heck too though.
@devinaschenbrenner26839 ай бұрын
@garyr7027 I disagree. They require different kinds of "work." And neither allow you to relax. To be good at ovals you have to be smooth, like road courses. Both require immense concentration for different reasons. And Oval racing has different rules than road course racing. Your allow to bump and bang, your allowed to shove, your allowed more than one blocking move, anywhere on the track. Your allowed to quite literally shove people out of your way, as long as it doesn't cause a wreck. I would argue that as a driver, you have more to worry about on an Oval than a Road course.
@ggsimmonds18 ай бұрын
@@devinaschenbrenner2683 oval racing has more of a driver vs driver element to it while road racing is more driver vs track. I think oval racing is much more tactical while road racing is more technical. Definitely agree that they are different kinds of "work" and one is not inherently more than the other, they are just different

Racing ovals has Superspeedways (Talladega, Daytona), Mile and a halfs (Vegas, Kansas, etc), and short tracks (Bristol, Martinsville). Try the other types of oval racing also. And the cars moving around on the superspeedways definitely makes it sketchy. Lol. I personally like running the bottom if possible but it's not always possible due to lanes moving and runs you get.
