I’ve just subscribed to your channel and also hit the bell button. Great Vlog mate. Hopefully I will be entering the Fred Whitton challenge for next year. Keep up the good work

i biked it over hardknott a couple times in the late 70's as a 15 or 16yo, at the end of december with saddlebag and winter bike, and in all the years i toured it was the only climb to beat me anywhere. even if it hadnt been a tad icy i'm not sure i would have made it lol, the climb is insane. I made it up many other 30% gradients though such as littlebeck near sleights (whitby) and others in that area, but i geared right down to something like 30 x 28, whereas i seem to remember i had 42 x 24 on hardknott, but always swore id go back and conquer it, but now im 60 and much heavier dont suppose i will haha - happy days. btw anyone would think wrynose tough, but after hardknott it was a breeze !!. Cycling in the 70s sounds epic - no such thing as a compact crank back then, just pure torque! Thanks for sharing your story Bob!

What time of day is best to do it , as I want a quiet time because concerned about cars coming from behind and face on and also bike coming back down and faster ones from behind ?
@outthesaddle21095 жыл бұрын
sorry about the late response. thats a tough question, this clip was late afternoon/early evening, so the sun is at your back at this point. The stretch of road can be busy at weekends so if you head out during the week, there may be fewer cars! Hope this helps.

OutTheSaddle yeah thanks cheers , it would be a midweek morning as those usual days off . I can see there is parking for few cars near the bottom near that pub

Climbed this on a MTB the other week , mates on road bikes walkers up it . What's your lowest gear ratio ?? well done by the way !! Great film
@outthesaddle21098 жыл бұрын
Cheers fella! good effort on an mtb, that weighs a lot more than my road bike! Lowest gear ratio is 34 on the front 28 on the back.
@Blord1118 жыл бұрын
Thanks for getting back, Wow respect for getting up using them ratios !! (A front 22 rear 34 combination is a big help on a MTB )
