I used the Pentax 645 for many years. Superb camera. I recently compared the Pentax 645 75mm against the GF 45-100mm. My impression was that the 75 is ever so slightly better. I use this lens with a tilt shift adapter. Lots of coverage!

I have been using a Pentax 645 80-160mm and have been impressed once stopped down half a stop or more. Heavy thought stuck out on the end of the adapter! At least my adapter has a tripod shoe which makes a ballanced handle. With the exception of the 90mm APO, my Voightlander VM lenes are disapointing even in 35mm crop mode when wide open.

keep it up - amazing new channel and very informative for GFX owners. I have followed and subscribe so looking forward for the next video. Personally I own quite a few old NIkon lenses and GFX + adapter, never had the time to go through in-depth testing them but the format of your videos is amazing. I would recommend voigtlanders and Leica R older lenses.

The actual 35mm equivalent field of view on this lens is 59.25mm based on the crop factor using the GFX. I have this lens and it makes for an odd focal length. I need to use it more.

i think it's the inverse of .078 since you're going from 645 to 35 instead of the other way around.

@@darwinwinsno… crop factor is 0.79 (4:3 aspect ratio) , 59.25mm. We are talking about 75mm on GFX . Since we are using gfx here. We are not using 645 sensor ! Moreover 0.79 is 4:3 aspect ratio. If you want to convert to a true 3:2 Full frame equivalence this would be 0.725 . Which is 54mm f/2

Looking for a method for scanning negatives with my GFX 50R I purchased a PK adapter to use with my Pentax smc A 100mm f4 macro lens. Amazing! no need to use crop mode, hardly any fall off in the corners and no smeering, sharp corner to corner at f11which I use for negative scanning (with extension tubes). So tried my 50mm f1.7, some poor corners at f1.7 but all good by f4, an amazing lens. So my last remaining Pentax lens smc A 70-210mm f4 again very good, probably may replace my P 645 80-160mm due to weight difference. I have long suspected that my copy of that zoom lens was better IQ than average hence why I still have is when not using Pentax now.

Great review. This GFX/vintage glass series is exactly what I've been looking for! I recently bought this lens in search of a MF normal for my 50R. I've enjoyed using it, though often finding it a bit too long. I'm preferring the Pentax-A 645 55mm f2.8 for now - something about the rendering, I think transition zone bokeh is a touch nicer than the 75 (at the expense of background/distant bokeh a little, though that suits my shooting style fine) and I can always crop in a bit to get that more 50ish equiv frame. It's a real pity that there aren't any old 645 lenses around the ~65mm mark. Saying that I have been wondering about the following lenses: Voigtlander 58mm f1.4 Nokton Nikon 58mm f1.4G Minolta 58mm f1.4 Minolta 55mm f1.7 Hasselblad Zeiss 60mm f3.5 Distagon Zeiss Makro Planar 60mm f/2.8 C MMJ Would you be able to review any of these on GFX 50? Thanks and keep up the good work!

Thank you! I'll be doing a review of the Pentax 645 45 2.8 coming up soon, you might enjoy that one as well. Since I have the 45 and the 75, I hadn't looked at much in between, so thanks for sharing your thoughts on the 55! I'll have to keep an eye out for a good copy. Might see what Mamiya has in that space for 645 as well, I've found that system to be just as great as the Pentax 645 system on the GFX sensors. I appreciate the comment and you taking time to watch!!

@@BD323 great! I'll look forward to it! I understand that the P645 55mm is a better performer than the P645 45mm. If you do the P645 55mm I would be really interested to see a comparison of it vs the Mamiya 645 55mm! Cheers

Dear Heritagefocus team firstly I want to say that finally I found a place where people do real, fast, simply and accurate tests of lenses, great job! I am standing before buying GFX system but also I want to invest in some vintage 645 lenses, cuz also I am going to leave my 67 format and go to 645. I can't decide mamiya .vs pentax. Have you tested, or are you plannig to do some of mamiya ~75, ~55 shoots? Also it's really hard to find pictures made with that KIPON adapter with 0.8 lens inside. Its pretty expensive but maybe is it worth to pay and get that full medium format look/ deph of field/ 100% usage of lens. Thanks for any help! Best from Poland Marek

Great review! I did side by side on my 645 75mm FA and a 77mm f1.8 FA (full frame) on my gfx 50R. If you like 75mm here, you will be surprised 77mm although it’s full frame lens. It has better color and sharpness than 645 lens. Corners almost no loss in quality from F2.8 and so on. It’s more compact as well! Alright! Price point is different! That’s the only down side about 77mm.

0:17 and on a GFX camera (same as on 645D and 645Z, or any other 44x33 0.79x crop) it is considered a 60mm F2.2 FF equivalent lens. Which is fantastic. While on a true Medium Format 645 film camera (0.61х) it is closer to 46mm F1.7 FF eqv. Basically it's a 50F1.8 on steroids )). Nice bokeh and detail.

With great pleasure, It's really interesting, plus the history is a pleasure. If I could make a suggestion. It would be to take a minute or two to explain the use of an old lens. You change the diaphragm via the lens or via the gfx. It's a question I ask myself, for example, or whether it's easy to focus or not. So all in all, a note on use.

75mm lens is 75 mm eqivalent on full frame. How did you come up with the "50mm equivalent"? On what is this that equivalent?
@HeritageFocus
@HeritageFocus 10 ай бұрын
Typically, when we discuss lens equivalence across sensor formats, one is referring to the equivalent field of view. I agree that it's easy to mix up focal length and field of view in these scenarios. The point I was trying to make is that this lens is different from what you would expect from a 75 or 80mm lens on a full frame camera because of the different sensor size. The lens, when used on a medium format (44x33) sensor, provides a field of view closer to that provided by a "normal (e.g. 50mm) lens when that lens is on a full-frame (36x24) sensor. In actuality, the field of view is closer to a 60mm on a full frame sensor than it is a 50mm lens, but I think for most people it's easier to visualize the field of view provided by a 50mm lens on full frame than it is a 60mm lens field of view. This is also why I said "roughly equivalent". Hope that helps, and thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!

@@TheJ_G There is heavy vignetting up until between 50-70 and there is vignetting all the way through to 105. Because of the 50 mega pickle sensor I just crop the image so the vignetting doesn't show.

@@TheJ_G I'm using the kippon adapter not the finger, but I think the vignetting is the lens, not the adaptor because my EF 16-35 doesn't vignette until you go below 20mm.

Maybe next time include some 100% sized views of the images. Seeing images zoomed out to full screen says or shows very little of the actual sharpness of a lens. Especially if you also leave out the specific F-stop used in every image. There is little to play with here. Is the lens sharp wide open at F2.8? Does it get much sharper at F8? How does it perform at 50MP? Only questions, no answers.

This lens looks great, I kinda want it. Just need an adapter first. The only adapted lens I have (that I use) is the Canon FD 135mm 2.8, which I use on my crop sensor fujis. It’s pretty good, even wide open on the new 40mp sensor.
