In this video I'll show you how easy it can be to replace the A/C accumulator and the O-Rings on the Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Car (Panther Platform). I will show you easy step by step how to change the A/C accumulator, fill it with oil and change out the o-rings. You can do it! Simple tools and a little bit of tie to get cold a/c back in your car.

Just a helpful hint for others. You don't have to take out the 3 bolts and take the whole plastic housing out. You can just undo the 4 clips to take the cover off and then clip it back on.

The last time I replaced mine I cut a hole about a 3 inch in diameter on the bottom of this plastic holder so water will drain out. A mechanic told me me this is what he does every time. This is a common problem on these cars

I also get replaced the accumulator for my 04 Crown Vic here in Norway. I has got rusty hole in it, and was leaking . And the cluch for AC was cicking in and out caused by the pressure of the AC system. I also get this Four Seasons kit from Rock Auto with all spare parts. I did replaced the valvesensor for the servo at the same time. The steering has got an uneven feeling. Now all works propery again.

I see you added 3 ounces of oil and my grand marquis calls for 7ounces of oil. Should I just put 3 in? I've only changed the accumulator and didn't touch the compressor. Not sure on how much of the PAG 46.. thanks

It’s a compressor like in a ac unit

@@ALMUDDY NO. The Accumulator has no moving parts -- NOTHING LIKE a compressor.

Awesome video! After charging the ac system in moms car i noticed a large spot of freon on the driveway after she left the house. The compressor was working before she left and i was wondering if you or anyone else knows if i need to depressorize the system first? From what I'm reading there is a high and low side to the ac system... thanks

From what I just read, they do recommend to vacuum out any air out of the low side of the AC system. I didn’t do such step but if you have the opportunity or the ability to do so, I guarantee you it will serve you well, and probably the right step to make.

I went through RockAuto. They usually send the right things if you order the right parts.

Hey thanks for your time! I appreciate you! Before I did all that and filled it with Freon, it didn’t blow any cold air, the ac pump wasn’t even turning on. My next project with the system is changing the o-rings in the unit itself. Sometimes it switches from windshield to face. Look out for the how to.

Yes it would be a good idea, my system had no pressure because of the rotted out canister.

Thanks for stopping by! To tell you the truth I have no idea what a shop would charge for this kind of work. The accumulator itself is not that hard to change. I think my biggest thing was to have the proper tools or more so the “fuel line tool” to get the line clips off.

No I didn’t, system was empty, new accumulator and filled with refrigerant and been going strong for 2 years and 2 months now.

I replaced mine last year with a Motorcraft part. Still made in China. 🤬 Oh, well it should last at least 15 years. The A/C is still working great and will freeze you out on a hundred degree day.
