The difference is that Taemin had already gained fame and respect due to SHINee, he was already beloved by people and had a huge fanbase. When you have all that you can get away with that stuff. With A.C.E their fanbase was small (and mostly international) so when they debuted with those shorts, showing off really muscular legs which is the opposite of the standard 'boyish' look expected from new groups, they were simply assumed to be "attention seeking" via being "inappropriate". Those were though times but I'm glad they survived that period and are now finally starting to get some recognition.

Jinwoo from Winner said that even after debut, things will get harder and harder. After debut is the real challenge for idols. Consider Jinwoo came from YG, a big 3 company, said that. It must be very hard too for A.C.E and other groups from small companies. But you can clearly see how smart the members & their agency to promote them in several survival shows. Thank you Beat for not giving up on these boys. 2019, they released the 3rd mini album. Under Cover is amazing and I learn to know A.C.E from this era. The live stage is great. I'm beyond happy to see them now after those hard works. A.C.E fighting and please keep growing even after your enlistment!!!

These five boys A.C.E members have all the potentials to line up with those so called Idols. They have the looks even with no make up, they possess good vocals to sing and energy to perform their dance routine. They are also hard working and full of positive energy. They only need a good management to handle their careers and whoever handle or manages this group will not regret coz they are like a polished gems. They have potentials. I seriously adore Taemin and respect him so much BECAUSE he's so comfortable breaking gender boundaries in fashion, dance, makeup, and singing. So it's honestly really disappointing to watch this. He's talked so much about erasing the differences between men and women's fashion and had to explain himself for wearing very feminine clothing in his stages, but what, it's not the same for a group of rookies to wear shorts? Literally, the girl group who auditioned directly before them was wearing shorts about the same length. I don't know, it's just disappointing. I really have so much respect for what Taemin does and it's upsetting to see him not tolerate the same thing in others.

Why are you mentioning Taemin? He didn't say anything about the shorts. No one actually said anything bad about them. It was all edited in. Rain asked why they wore them and then the editors put in all the stuff about people not liking it. Then they moved on to the performance. None of the judges criticized them in this segment.

You're right that the judges themselves don't focus on it too much, the video generally makes me frustrated because I've seen so many things like this so many times. I mentioned Taemin because he's there and like I said before he's well known for these things and it's always been accepted by people like the ones sitting around that table; same with Hyuna, she wears those clothes all the time; then the fact that literally the girl group directly before them was wearing shorter shorts than that and it was never even mentioned. Trust me I love Taemin a lot, he's possibly my favourite artist in Kpop and I have a lot of respect for him; I also love Hyuna; don't particularly like Rain but not for this reason. I was venting and talking about how it being brought into focus so prominently is a pattern, and it's tiring, and it's hypocritical considering where they are and the people who are right there and have done the exact same things if not more scandalous. Hyuna's cb now, for example. My comment was very much like, I'm tired of this and it sucks and it's kind of sexist and kind of homophobic and it makes no sense for anyone in that room to point it out at all considering who's sitting at that table

I also think it was good because A.C.E performance was shown in full, plus a little back story and they got to speak on the shorts. So many people auditioned and many of their auditions did not make it into the show that aired. I think the shorts were brought up as a source of drama. And that drama turned Jun and Chan into main characters so to speak. This was one of the best things that could happen to them on a show like this. This show was part of my introduction to A.C.E back when it first aired. Back then I mainly noted the nice things the judges said how and how hard it must have been for A.C.E to be criticized for wearing shorts. Edited for typos

To summarize what I wanted to say, I know Taemin best out if the judges so I thought about him more when I was watching this and what always frustrates me is how people are so disturbed by the stupid shorts but go crazy over famous people like Taemin and women like Hyuna who do the same thing. It’s sexist and homophobic in an underlying way, and it frustrates me and I was just venting, so it’s not that serious. It’s not like I was presenting an elaborate theory on the judges’ behaviors and perspectives. But I guess its a public comment so you’re allowed to nitpick and extrapolate. You’re not wrong though, I agree with you it did bring attention to them. But I dont like it. Idk if you saw mixnine but the same thing happened there, more than once. Then there were the articles, and the hate comments, and the many homophobic remarks, etc etc. the shorts thing is for drama, sure, it’s also a way to try to belittle and humiliate them on again a fairly homophobic principle - the association of feminine clothes on men to something ridiculous or inappropriate. Besides the implication that the shorts are too revealing for men because it becomes too exposed or sexualized, but on women it’s fine because that’s the point of female clothing. I know some people will think I’m over-exaggerating on this but this is how a lot of this was framed, and these are valid implications to take from the situation, and they’re not very good ones. Like they said, why couldn’t people just focus on their dancing and singing rather than bringing up their stage outfits specifically as a way to create drama and humiliate them, call them out or bring negative attention to it? There’s a lot of more interesting things about them to bring up that would have brought attention to them without being condescending or hypocritical. I hate how these shows “start drama” by trying to humiliate their competitors, and this goes for all survival shows. I don’t think it’s a good thing. I’m venting again because it’s so frustrating to me I don’t want to argue about this. My point is I was just thinking out loud and at no point was thinking that the judges are all mean haters or anything like that, much less Taemin who, again, I have so so much respect for. I talked about him specifically because he’s the most interesting person there to me, so my thoughts naturally went to him. To answer your first question. That’s why I talked about Taemin, because I was just thinking.

They gave boots to almost all of the Good Day members even though they were arguably less talented. I think they were a bit irked by the "hot pants" thing. I feel like they weren't pleased with it because they built up their popularity and respect for a long time before wearing such revealing clothing. Perhaps they thought that A.C.E was just fanservice. However, as a Choice, I believe that they are so much more... THEY DESERVE THE WORLD, PLS SUPPORT THEM.

But like..... Why would the hot pants detract from their attention??? That's what confuses me, especially when a lot of K-pop artists use fan service as a means of appealing to their audiences. I can't understand why the judges seemed to be looking down on them the whole time. That was a face I've never seen on Taemin before. But I fell in love with ACE because I loved the song and dance to Cactus, the hot pants were an added bonus I only found out later. I seriously can't understand why these boys aren't more popular, they're wonderful people and have worked so hard, they deserve the world and I hope they get more recognition than they have been.

I’m sure they’re all great judges and knew what they were talking about, but there’s that small part of me that thinks maybe they were a bit biased in not voting for them. However, I can also see the other perspective that the maroon 5 song wasn’t their greatest choice, so nothing can be for sure.

Aro Brillia, As far as we know (Choice, correct me, if I'm wrong), only one member (Wow) is interested in producing music (on YT channel they have some very confusing short clips with bgm produced by him). But some of them can play instruments, so we'll see how it goes in the future. They only have two songs for now, so it's kinda early to say anything about writing their own, imo. The members are actively involved in creating choreography tho, so I don't think it'd be a problem with a music as well. Beat Interactive is quite a nice company
