28 or 29 Deg. Celc. is the right temp. to operate AC at home. It may vary with the outside temperature and climate but in standard conditions 28 to 29 Deg is the best, we may use Ceiling Fan on speed 1 or 2 which will help more to keep the Air Conditioning of the room for a longer duration (without fan if 5 minutes with fan it may be 8 or 12 minutes). AC must be operated in Auto Mode only to have the benefits of all this. 24 to 26 Deg. is advisable for commercial places and offices where there are more people and in & out move is frequent.

Yes it's absolutely ok. When you keep the degree down than 24, the compressor do not get rest and work hard to maintain your room temperature and consume more power. But when the set degree is 24 and higher than the compressor has to maintain your room temperature more easy as well as it works less time, get cut off more frequently and consume less electricity. Keep your AC 24 or higher degree is favourable for the compressor and your pocket friendly too.
