You could remove the entirety of the instrumentals and vocals from this EP, turn this into spoken work poetry and it would still easily be one of my favorite works of art. I'm yet to find an Album/EP with lyrics this meaningful, articulate and well constructed, while still covering such a broad base of topics. And that's without even taking into account this was written by kids in high school.

I cannot help not to say that stuff like "their only good work" or "ABBA destroys Bee Gees" or any kind of ready-made comparison is kinda pointless. Kill me, coz I didn't knew this album. Always thought Kezya was their first. I love every single album... but I guess I'll have a new favorite very soon after a couple plays of this one. In a first glance, it's sad for those who love political hardcore (like me) that they strayed so far from it with the years. But a complete new and criative band came from this process. Bands are like this. Can't please you forever, coz they have to please themselves first. Suggestion for the "this is the best/only good album": grab a guitar, learn to play it and give humanity something worth sending the aliens in a box on the next stupid intergalatic vessel. jk but I wish this album was more influential... so many bands could have followed this influence and taken stuff from here, although PtH took it to other direction. If I'm just ignorant of bands that have done this, I need names, or it didn't happened.

This is the only PTH album I like. This Era of underground ops was so good. Bombs Over Providence, Closet Monster, Hostage Life. Political punk bands.. now look at the trash they sign and put out. It's a damned shame.
@ToKeepMeFromSinking8 жыл бұрын
***** I wasn't calling Protest "trash". Underground Operations was known for being a Punk label and jumped on the emo/screamo wave hard, abandoming what the label used to stand for. These Silhouettes, Stereos.. Those are shitty bands. I respect PTH, but they lost my interest ten years ago. You cannot call UO a punk label, let alone one of the best independent punk labels. NOTHING will ever top Fat Wreck Chords, which has been releasing the best and most influential punk bands for the last 25 years. Hell, even Nitro, No Idea, Cyber Tracks are just a few labels that all top UO in that department. Chuck Ragan is the only good punk artist that's represented by underground ops. I won't even start on their "metal" bands.
@ToKeepMeFromSinking8 жыл бұрын
+Kaelan Rasputin I'm not against the progression of PTH at all. I love bands like Strung Out and A Wilhelm Scream who've perfected fusing punk and metal. I have a hate on for Underground Operations, not Protest The Hero.

so you only like the politically charged hardcore punk scene? I agree this was a great PTH album, but they have had many good ones after this too. Just cause they wanted to go in a different direction than you care to listen to does not change that fact.
@TheSnakeYouCanTrust10 жыл бұрын
Derek Mathews What.... who said i only like that scene. I said this was protests only good album, nothing about the scene.
@Reiyichi10 жыл бұрын
Tyler Johnson Well, like I said, they have had a few great albums since this one. This one is awesome, then again so were Kezia and Fortress. I won't mention Scurillious or Volition, as those albums are hit or miss for some people, but they are awesome as well imho. so I don't think PTH ever released a bad album. Which brings me back to your original comment. "The only good album Protest ever released." They have changed their sound since this album. This one was hardcore punk, now they are more progressive metal. That is why I figured you just didn't care for their new sound or metal in general cause you said this was their only good album.
