The comment about the font size in the menus made me laugh out loud, because I completely agree! If the narrow font is readable, just make it all the same!

The Fujifilm menus are by far the most mental and nobody else even comes close 😆 There's not even just two fonts, I think they straight-up have the Instax trademarked logo as a menu item on the X-H2S, and it can't even connect to most of their current Instax printer lineup 🧐

It does matter if you connect with a camera or not... I had the V, but after a couple of years of using it, I never once enjoyed the experience. So I swapped it for an X-E4, and that's the camera that brings a smile to my face.

I've found the X100 series to be a type of special treatment for photo hobbyists who have, for whatever reason, fallen out of love with their hobby. Most probably because one has fallen victim to the constant gear hustling in the (social) media, has accumulated mountains of gear which is to heavy and/or expensive to take out and ends up collecting dust. As a consequence, one doesn't use the cameras at all. Enter X100 which is so pretty you just have to pick it up and use - people ask you about it all the time which just adds to the excitement. After a while, you're into photography again and you don't mind taking a camera with you. At the same time, you're realizing: Actually, my trust old (--name your brand here--) wasn't so bad after all. Also, it was actually more fun to use and produced better results in this specific situation than that flashy X100. You end up returning to your old system / or another system. But a SYSTEM. You keep the X100 along for a while. Just in case. Then you realize the still crazy used prices and sell it - defending its original purpose because of the great resell value. And the cycle resets. That was my experience exactly and from what I am hearing from others >> not that uncommon.

I've got one and sold my X100V to fund it. I love the new one, battery life is great for me, the upgrades truly are upgrades. One remaining irritation however is the exposure compensation dial. It desperately needs a lock button in the centre of the dial. Every time I take it out of my bag it's on +3 or -3! Normally use C so that I can change exp via the finger dial but it flips round in the bag so no end of first shot under/overexposed (they've all done this). Perfect night out/low maintenance single camera. As for focal length, the 50mm adaptor is excellent. Get on the list now as the wait for that is as bad as the camera. Hope your camera arrives soon, luckily I ordered mine 3 minutes after the email arrived!

Even though it is aesthetically ugly, it is actually clever. This way, the absurd abbreviation mumbo-jumbo can be avoided, which often plagues other brands' menus. For example, this menu says: - "Instax printer connection setting", instead of - "Insx. prnt. conn. stg." or so... 🙂

Thanks for the video ... Nice to see you giving the Fujifilm a second go. The ironic thing is that the features of the x100vi you mentioned are all present in the x100v - built in ND filter, same iso selector, same lens, EVF and OVF (and a hybrid view), battery life of the x100v has never been bad. Can't comment on the x100vi. Main upgrade as you said Is the 40mp sensor and ibis. Other than that, they are the same! It's great we all like/ get used to different systems, be a boring world otherwise. BTW, I loved the neck strap trick... Cheers

I’ll have to settle for an X-T5 or T50, but all of the buzz over the X100VI has me seriously considering a Fujifilm camera for the first time ever. Two notes: I agree, all the Fujifilm models do look and feel a bit like toys, or at least not a very serious camera, but I can easily get past that part because the small and light form factor is a bonus for EDC use. The other thing I’ve noticed is kind of a double-edged blade effect - and that’s even though the beautiful color and fun film sims are universally appreciated, all of the example images I see in videos like this are starting to look exactly alike. That great Fujifilm film look is so strong that it seems to overpower a photographer’s personal style. For that reason, I think Fujifilm cameras can be wonderfully inspiring and encourage you to shoot more, but they may also limit your own creative growth. For me, Fujifilm = a fun camera.

Same. I've been thinking about getting one since the T dropped, and Kai convinced me back when they were Digital Rev in Hong Kong. I always held off though, the V was the first time the value proposition actually aligned, new lens, weather resistant. The VI jumped the shark a bit, and the F wasn't quite there with the 24mp and a the old lens. They both have the same issue, too many megapixels for the lens design. I'd go for the T but I got the X70 a few years back and it was the same camera basically, just a hit quicker AF, because of the lens.

Think it’s 23mm so the equivalent of a 35mm. There is a wide converter that’s the equivalent of 28mm and a tele converter that’s the equivalent of 50mm. As the inbuilt mics and horizontal only screen limit its use for vlogging a better option is probably the XS20 and kit zoom. Or for most amateur video makers the amazing iPhone 15 pro max and a rig…..

I enjoyed 2 years with my x100v, sold it to get an x100vi. While awaiting delivery I unexpectedly landed an open box "used" Sony a7CR. Then the x100vi arrived. What a difficult choice of cameras: my a7Rv, a7CR, and the x100vi. Quickly I found the a7CR to be my favorite, replacing both the a7Rv and the x100vi. Coupled with the f2.5 40m G it may weigh 100g more than does the x100vi (with its needed filter adapter and UV filter to complete its weather sealing) but it handles infinitely better, has better EVF and a fully articulating LCD, better MF, better AF-C. Too much of the x100vi is devoted to film simulations for which I have zero interest. I shoot RAW, process carefully, and never wish to have film simulations. I sold the x100vi weeks after receiving it (sold it in 17 min, for a bit more than it cost new from B&H).

I love film simulations. Compose, frame, and use the JPEG. Just like film. We never had pray and spray shooters with film. Every photo taken was a careful and deliberate choice.I can see why RAW is more appealing for unskilled photographers who try to compensate for their inadequacies in post.

I too, do not use neckstraps. when neckstraps were all that were available, I too, would wind them about my wrist. but I also don't wear shoes that need to be tied, so that wouldn't be a reason to use one to free up both hands. that's what pockets are for. I do have wriststraps. I don't use them often; only when it feels like I am in a position where the camera might slip out of my hands into an irretrievable place. like water. or a chasm, with water. water kills cameras.

I was cycling in Folkestone, and a running down from the station, turned a bit too sharply, and a camera he had on it's strap round his neck/shoulder, swung out and hit the steel railings. The SLR and lens parted company and the lens bounced across the road!

Fun fact, the technique you mention at the very beginning is called the lark's head knot. It is really common in kite flying to attach line to the kite because its fast to tie, tightens with tension, but is easy to untie after. I shoot wildlife and astro, so the X100 VI is absolutely not for me, but I tend to agree about the styling. Especially from the front it reminds me of that no-name junk you get for $100 on amazon, although im guessing the 'inspiration' is the other way around. At least the fuji takes quality images. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ And the menu font! How did that happen??? That better be fixed in a firmware update..

Really nice video. Do you like the camera a lot so far? I thought about the Sony A7cii and geting a 40mm and also a 24mm so sony lens, but the camera you have is cheaper. For street is what Iam looking for. I have a canon r5, but it is kind of big and canon dont have a nice small lens maybe. So you like this camera best? Heard it has same lens as previous model so not sure if the sensor and lens resolves the megapixels effectively or not, how good the quality is? Weight looks nice for street compared to canon r5 with lens. Do you shoot jpg, heif or compressed raw? Is heif good or not supported much? Guess the fujifilm film simulations import into lightroom if shooting conpressed raw. Is it slow if shooting while using the simulation s? Do you shoot Velvia simulation, Portra 160 Portra 800, Lomo 400 or what do you like for street? Any things you dislike about the canera and would you buy it again if you didn’t have it?

Please make use of high flash sync speed with x100 series cameras. Otherwise you're better off with fuji Xpro series or E series depending on whether or not you value compactness or the optical viewfinder. Granted the x100vi gives you best of both plus ibis and and ND filter which are great for video. But the only advantage of a fixed lens other than size, is the leaf shutter. So overlooked. Given the limited use of flash in Landscape it's not my choice of camera for that but I have the 100s and 100v with additional flashes because you can do things other cameras can't. And because of the high sync speed the tiny built in flash is super powerful.

There’s very little to hate about this series of camera. It looks cool, jpegs look great for those who don’t want to edit, and it’s small. My only gripe with it that was a dealbreaker is the manual focus experience. While being a film and leica Leica m user I just couldn’t stick with the autofocus of this camera. I much prefer manual focus lenses. Otherwise this camera is almost perfect.

Bought the X100v, sold it.. regretted it. Bought the X100VI. The IBIS for me is the gamechanger, I love long exposure during the day (which you can do with the built in ND filter). The most important thing is however how people react to this camera. When you point a DSLR (or DSLR looking camera) at someone they will change their demeaner, with this camera you get a different response. I just like taking this camera with me more than my other cameras. I would prefer it to be 28 with crop modes at 35 and 50mm though. Would just find it more useful. However the lens would probably be bigger. So it's all good.

The ND filter is more useful for photography than you think. To maximise bokeh quality you should really use moderate mechanical shutter speeds… to maximise dynamic range you should consider turning on DR400%. This latter setting sets ISO to 400 minimum… and both together means you need the ND to reduce light, especially for wider apertures.
@JackBurton-qp4hc
@JackBurton-qp4hc 7 ай бұрын
You've made a typo on the ISO. On the X100VI at DR400% it is minimum ISO *500* (and DR200% starts at ISO 250) You've obviously typed DR400 and then the same 400 for ISO :)

@@albedo0point39 Ah ok, here's a free tip from a long time Fuji user. If shooting jpegs and using ACROS then you want higher ISO, the higher the ISO the more grain you get. ACROS alters level of grain depending on ISO setting. Higher ISO = more grain. Shoot ACROS at ISO 3200 to see what I mean.

Good review. I've tried a few "cult cameras: GR Digital (the original - lens stopped extending), GR II (dust), the original X100 (autofocus problems and just didn't get on with it, despite loving 35mm focal length and getting some good photos). Luckily, most Leicas are well out of budget, even used, so I didn't go down that path. I think cult cams can be overhyped and can more easily disappoint than something less exciting. My most fun camera lately has been a Lumix GF6 that fits in my pocket and produces photos I'm pleased more often than the GR or the X100 did. Cost a lot less too.

Months? I ordered my X100VI on the morning of 2/20. There are 1,000,000 preordered. I may have to wait a year or two for my camera to arrive. Annoying indeed. I too am considering canceling my preorder. One or two year wait is crazy. I may have more luck preordering the XT50 when announced. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)

1 Mio. pre orderes are probably pure fiction. Even the 400k in China were just some lottery tickets to get to buy one. But yeah, its annoying. Fujifilm wants to up their production again in 4-5 loooong months. So the waiting is not over. 😭

Silver is better, and this is the V + IBIS. If IBIS defines your workflow well and good, but otherwise it's the same. If you didn't want the V then I don't see how the VI is going to change that.

Inspiring shots! So, I'm going out today with my Nikon Z fc from MBP on a street full of color, junk, begging for attention. And the menu tech should get life in prison and required to read books with the smallest fonts available.😊

40MP is too much unless you print large, will also need to upgrade your computer to deal with file size. Best time to buy a used x100v in my opinion

I was on the waiting list for the X100V for over a year before Fuji cancelled manufacturing that camera. The only D100V bodies I see are still selling at a premium. Madness. Never going to happen. I may never get a X100 body. Too bad. So sad. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)

It's not too much, it provides much better resolution for cropping, which on a fixed length camera is very appreciated.

"40MP is too much" Except for cropping, which is the point for this fixed lens camera.

I couldn't care about the camera review but James, you convinced me to buy a camera WRIST STRAP and now you tell me I could be using my neck strap! Make your mind up please. Or make mine up.

I can’t see any reason to hate Fuji X100 cameras. They look cool and work well. They remind me of when I had 35mm rangefinders like an Olympus 35RC or a Canon Canonet. Compact, classic, functional. They aren’t for every kind of photography or every photographer. So, no to hate, but frustrating if a person wants an X100 but can’t find one or can’t afford one.

in my opinion the best from X100 series is F ... I just couldn't cope with tilting display which is absolutely broken aesthetics of this cool camera ... and perhaps stabilization too .. I feel it same like you've mentioned in some older videos that too perfect cameras with fancy features bother you ... I have X100F and not considering to change at all

I pre-ordered one of these and it has fit into my life perfectly - I shoot mostly when out with friends and doing other things, photography always being unfortunately secondary - My Z6 was just too large to deal with in that situation and missing shots because friends wouldn't wait - or missing shots because I was aiming a very obvious camera at said friends made them a bit too aware of it and killed the candid moments. (don't even get me started on how cumbersome it felt to find a place to put the camera away if I didn't want to go through the full process of getting it all back in my bag just to sit for a coffee) So the Z6 is now my "bigger planned trips" camera - and usually gets the pleasure of shooting landscapes with a telephoto because I have the X100VIs 35mm otherwise and loved this combo in a recent wales trip! then the X100VI is the casual weekend camera that makes photos and carrying gear easy... stopping for that coffee? shove the camera in a pocket.

I got the X100 and realised I hate, absolutely HATE the 35mm equiv. focal length. For me it's such a non committal, in between, too scared to be wide too scared to be tight, focal range. Got the GR3x and am way happier with the 50mm equiv. (approx) focal length.

Great images James. I’m sure it’s a fab camera but to me it looks cheap from the front. I’d get bored by the fixed focal length and does an APSC really need 40mp? I’ll stick to my Sony RX100 mkiii for a compact and my a7ii & a6500 for interchangeable lenses.

There is even a video „tutorial“ on how to use a neck strap properly as a wrist strap. Basically put your hand through, go around once on the right, once around the left and you are good to go.

Its like hating kittens and puppies - we use a GFX100II with a bag of lenses including the 110mm T+s and the new 30mm T+S we have a Hass 907x with CFV100c (why can't you buy the back only?) all the new 2,5 lenses, 2 X2D's 2 GX680's, 1 GX690, and the two most used cameras in our studio are the X100vi and the GFX550r - with a bit of Leica M6 thrown in too - nope we don't know either - it just is

But what label will you print for a Fuji? Fudge??
@kcphotogeek6207
@kcphotogeek6207 7 ай бұрын
unfortunately for Fuji with so many cheap 50 quid cameras online mimicking their aesthetic it may look toy like for some people. But the reason it's successful is something a lot of people push back on, it's a photography first camera with a tilt screen and an ovf. That is getting rarer and rarer now.
