For many years, I dreamed of walking the Camino de Santiago, waiting for the right time and the right opportunity. I often thought that my moment would never arrive as I got caught up in my busy and hectic life.
I was lucky to take this special journey and walk the camino, almost 900km, from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port all the way to Finisterre, meeting incredible people along the way from all over the world.
It was amazing meeting such an assortment of individuals, with diverse cultures, languages, with varied life experiences, joined together by a singular goal - to complete the walk to Santiago de Compostela, all in one piece and, hopefully, with a few more answers about life’s questions.
Along with my Camino walk, I have been asked - "what made you want to walk the Camino", "Did you find the answers you were looking for". There is no doubt that a journey like this, literally walking hundreds of kilometers, sometimes alone and sometimes with friends, gives one the opportunity for self-reflection - asking questions about who you are and who you have become - something that we do not have the luxury of doing in our day to day lives. I loved the opportunity to think, to process,
but mostly, I loved the opportunity to hear my friend's stories, their lives journey, experiences, good moments and the sad ones.
Whether you chose to walk the Camino de Santiago to overcome the death of a close friend or loved one, you lost your job or sold a business, you were heartbroken, you were on a religious pilgrimage or a student in between school semesters, what was truly inspiring for me was the openness of people around me, who willingly shared their stories - their highs and lows, heartbreaks, and joys. Listening to my friends and sharing my own stories has given me a very new perspective about the importance of cherishing special life moments and appreciating the little things in life.
I was privileged to be part of a group of individuals from around the world who chose an incredibly challenging journey that, by its nature, was soul searching and spiritually uplifting.
And as for me - Did I find the answers I was looking for?
What I realized is that I don’t need to find all the answers. The Camino taught me an important lesson - It's not about reaching the destination or goal, it’s the journey that is important. Finding the answers will just make my life journey - BORING.
And to all of you - Buen Camino and thank you for being part of my journey. You made my trek of the Camino so special. Each one of you affected me in a different way and I will always treasure our special moments

Man, I'm crying so much, that my eyes hurts :) I had walked with my dog in 2018 over 4000 kilometres and those 780 km part was the greatest thing in a whole journey. This journey was greatest in my life so far. Thank you

It is interesting to hear that out of 4K km, you felt those were the best. Many that do such a long (4k km) walk say they like the "Frances" (800 km from San Jean Pied de Port to Santiago) the least. I did the "Frances" in spring (May/June) 2018 and loved it too. Came back for more in the fall of 2019 starting in Porto, Portugal along with a walk to Finisterre and Muxia. Loved that too!!
@tigerstracy
@tigerstracy 4 жыл бұрын
@@timhardman4764 Frances wasn't the best according to the path and it's landscape, but I was finally with group of people after 4 months. That was the best. We (me and dog) left Czechia in June walking through Germany and France. Of course I met some people on the Way in France, but it was very rare. From SJPdP (October) it changed a lot and it was magical. Walked to Muxia and Fisterra too, End of the world was a goal for me, I wanted to reach the ocean more then get piece of paper in SdC :) and from SdC we walked alone again against the flow down to Porto and Lisboa. Don't like this part, too much towns and very little of nature at least till Coimbra. If can recommend, have a look at Rota Vicentina in South Portugal. Beautiful costal walks with distance between two towns 15-20 km. Beautiful man. Can't say where was the nicest landscape, or nature, or paths because every meter on the Way is different, but company we found on this journey is for life. Same like this whole experience, which will show you that society isn't so doomed like it's presented in social medias, especially in parts where camino isn't business you can meet most generous, friendly and beautiful people who are willing to offer a roof, snack or water without asking, just by having a chat in very bad german, even worst french (can't speak french at all :D) or with broken english . Gratitude in it's purest form :) Buen Camino Tim :)

Thank you so much for this. Gave me goosebumps! I went in the autumn of 2015 and watched the season change while on The Way; saw the vineyards go from being ripe & harvested to the remaining leaves turning red & orange. Formed many circles of friends along the way; every day and eve was different and memorable in its own way. You are right, it's not going to give you life's big answers, but the Camino does teach you lessons for a lifetime.

Friend, work is important but IT'S NOT YOUR LIFE! That is something you have to learn and some advice that I give you. I am Spanish and I work like everyone else, but for me the first thing is happiness, family and treating others well and having fun. Not everything is work and suffering, you have to enjoy life and find yourself. It is an advice that I humbly give you being Spanish and teaching me the value of happiness and kindness since I was a child.
