Try comparing it to a zippo 12 hr hand warmer. In the field 1 in opposing pockets. Be a good benchmark test.

Is it grunt proof? LOL! I work in electronics, so I know better than to trust electronics for survival, ESPECIALLY in winter. Electronics are never made to be tossed around, dropped, frozen, submitted to vibrations or exposed to wet conditions unless specified. Winter makes all 4 of these possible at the same time and MUUUUCH more likely to happen. This is a gadget that is built to do one thing right and does it impressively, I have to admit. Should be considered as a comfort item, not as a survival item, but I am impressed, especially or the price!

Always entertaining and informative. I've heard that "between the legs" is a good idea because the femoral arteries carry the warmth to your feet. Maybe the 2.0 version will vibrate.😅

Was looking at these. It's nice to have multipurpose gear, but at the same time I'm not sold on this particular combo. Maybe as an emergency backup to not die, but definitely not as a primary tool for warmth. I'm a fan of the "Hot Nalgene bottle" trick. Boil some water by the fire or with your stove, let it cool a little, add it to your water bottle, torque the lid down good and toss it into the footbox of your sleeping bag. Still reusable, you can drink the water afterwards and there's no reason to throw the bottle away. The issue I have with devices like this is that the battery charge is a very finite resource in the field and it forces you to make a choice of how to use that resource. Burning through all of your juice to stay warm then means that you have no way to charge your phone or GPS if you need to. I can appreciate the added functionality, but I think I prefer to have dedicated devices for charging and staying warm.

Thats why i carry a 50w Solarpanel! Below 50 even the good quality dont work well with more than 30% cloudcover, except powerfilm, but i will need a morgage rize!

im about to go camping and im guessing night temps will hit 20degrees..maybe high teens. what if i buy this and threw in bottom of sleeping bag maybe two of them? or since i will be wearing a fleece jacket to bed , i could put it in the pocket....or my tent is a small 2 person maybe 6x6 floor. i could set in on my tiny table next to me? thoughtsi JUST want soemthign to take the "cold Edge" off
@GruntProof2 жыл бұрын
It's better putting at the foot of your sleeping bag or next to your body. It won't heat up any air around it for sure. On high setting it should last about 6 hours.

Great review, only thing I’d add is that the old S6 is notorious for its bad battery management. Having owned one and now owning a newer iPhone, I would back that the claim of charging a newer phone 3 times are somewhat true. Thanks again for an honest review.

i recently bought a couple of the old fashioned charcoal stick burning hand warmers .... their crap, first one took ages to light and start generating heat .... second wouldnt light at all, even holding it over a gas camping cooker ... got another dozen of the sticks to try, not holding out much hope ... i have used the chemical disposable ones ... their decent but need to be used, if stored for a long time they dont work.

Great review, I picked one up last year and it came in handy. I had to put a belt on a tractor in minus 10 f., at times I couldn't feel my hands out in the field. This worked for me taking breaks to get the feeling back in my fingers. Fyi...for extended time on high, connect it to another battery bank.

Interesting to see, how it will do over time. Another review of handwarmers, more traditional ones, Zippo, Savotta and Peacock: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3exaIapl9lkpbs . Semi scientific, so to say, thermometer but not in a "laboratory" as such. :o) First and last mentioned are fuel burning ones, the Savotta is a "click the tablet and wait" reusable kind. Just if it is?

@@Matthew_Australia I'm not sure, my test is with 4 eneloop AA batteries (with the charger from Goal Zero), with the panel at my backpack, the batteries are charged with a day of walking with sun (Spain: Camino Santiago), at home, in my flat, with the panel behind the panel of a window not very well oriented, I have charged the 4 AA batteries in about 4 hours of sunshine (summer), in winter on cloudy days after 2 or 3 days.
