Thanks again for another great boat. Thanks to you I rejoined a sailing club. Cat 27, Cat 26, Newport 24 and Victory sloops. I helped with maintenance yesterday and had lunch with some of the guys. I then went on a 3 hour sail to show my sailing skills. They let me join and I now can take a Victory out whenever I want. Thanks again for doing these videos and reminding me that I just needed to get back on the water again. You really make sailing sound fun (which it is).

You almost lost me until you mentioned the Heat and AC. The only thing I question is the reverse Nav station, I like a forward facing Nav station but I could buckle down and change if push came to shove. Wonderful Yacht but I would quibble over the price to get a better deal. Very nice cruiser!

I love solid railings on the side of a boat, why are they not more common than wire guard rails? Is it something to with windage or perhaps complications for sail handling or that wire rails are less visable? Solid rails are just so much safer and confidence inspiring! There is lake, sea, and rivet sailing, coastal land dwellers may have Ocean, sea, fiord, inlet sailing, and time and resources permitting, blue water Ocean sailing including Great Circle. For S and East Coast, shallower draft and center-board vessels for the Caribbean (oh, also for Micronesia and Indonesia. There are many millions of willing wanting or actual sailors around the world.

Great boat!!! I bought the book you recommended, Wolds Best Boats" and used it to search for all those makes and models. I found the boat you reviewed through that search! Great to see you Gents bring the character of the boat to life. When the damn covid thing stops - I'd like to head to the US, grab a boat like that Shannon and sail home to Sydney. Aren't the ones that open "portholes" and the ones that don't "portlights?" That was my understanding. But I could be wrong. Not like that's ever happened, but I suppose I _could_ be... Whoever buys this boat will have demonstrated that he or she has more going for him or her than just a bank account. It seems to be a very fine piece, well-constructed, well laid-out, sturdy and seamanlike and well-adapted to the task of blue-water cruising while still being of shallow enough draft to be useful in a large number of anchorages. Apparently this Walter Schultz guy had a handle on these things.

Captain o captain...another ketch?...Anyways...at 25:43 min you missed one of the most unusual items - one that at least this German Sailor has never seen on any boat that size - which is an Air conditioning system driven by the engine! How "cool" is that?? So while you enter the harbor under engine power, you can cool down your cabin air from the heat of the sun already and make it comfortable to sleep. A very nice feature me thinks. PS: You didn´t really missed it, but it wasn´t mentioned when it was right in front of you. What a lovely boat... Cheers from Germany Tobias

Good eyes Steve. That engine driven AC at 24:43 is a nice feature. This boat was set up for comfort. What do you think the item on the counter top at 27:17 is? It looks like some interior trim pieces sitting on top of a white board. Does it have to do with the hole or open area on the floor next to the toilet?

That's actually for the freezer. While the refrigerator runs on a 12v system, the freezer was run off of an engine controlled compressor. It's actually a very good and efficient system. Here's a little better info on how it works. www.seafrost.com/Engine%20Drive.html

Please forgive a beginners question....(I'm a day sailer, just now starting to dream of becoming more)... When you refer to a navigation area, what all can you observe and control there? What can you monitor there, and can you actually steer or guide the boat from there? Thanks!!

When we refer to a navigation area we’re thinking in terms of usually a small corner of the interior of the boat with a desk and directly adjacent to that desk all the circuit breakers and electronics required to navigate and communicate. Today more and more people are putting GPS and radar systems up on the helmsman‘s Binnacle protector. Although that has some convenience especially for just casual daysailer‘s I think it will be difficult to properly navigate through heavy weather breaking seas rain fog snow etc. My preference is to have all your major screens for radar and GPS in the quiet of the navigation area where it’s dry and you can chart on paper charts your course and direction and your current position. You do need a table or flat space on smaller boats the galley table will suffice very well. But it’s nice to have the luxury of your own little office so to speak to quietly navigate the boat. Often you can have a repeater for your auto pilot so if you’re offshore and not an immediate presence of other shipping you can make adjustments to your course right from the NAV station. I believe the helmsman or deck watch should have their concentration on the horizon and the instruments relating to wind direction and wind speed. You devise a course in and give that to the helmsman to focus on. Personally I also please do you prefer a minimum of light in the cockpit at night. And a lot of the helm mounted instrumentation can be very bright and blinding.

But there was just something about the Ted Hood Steel Yawl at $119,000 that spoke to me ... and with the $160,000 price differential you could /really/ make the Steel Yawl something special. Something else I love on sailboats are pilot berths as on this boat and preferably on both sides of a saloon. They are some of the most sailing friendly assets to grace a sail boat but sadly have to compete with storage requirements on most newer designs! Sadness…

Dropping 2 anchors is more of a tangle risk. Yes if a storm is coming and your gonna stay up all night to monitor. Better off with an oversized modern single anchor with plenty of scope.
