A Career in Emergency Response (JTJS42009)

The ambulance service is the first point of medical emergency response in many situations and Krishna is keen to get a first-hand look at what this career involves. He joins ambulance officer Simon and learns the job could involve attending to anything from a sore knee to a serious road crash.
Simon explains the rewards of the job are in helping people and that's exactly what's required at the first call out Krishna attends. The ambulance has been called after a woman has had a fall from a tree and the first thing to do is check whether there are any obvious injuries or bleeding. Once the patient is assessed and stabilised, it's off to the hospital.
At the hospital, Krishna assists the emergency nurse cutting off the patient's clothing and observing the monitoring, testing and inserting an intravenous line through which pain relief can be administered.
