A Carveout For Deer

With the coyote population in the midwest growing, deer need a place to hunker down safely at night. Simply carving out a clearing in the middle of a secluded area of brush growth can give them shelter from rain, wind, and detection by predators.

Slight correction: The plant is called Russian Olive, not Russian Ivy. The cubby area where this is, is a result of being in a corner where it's not easy for the farm equipment to reach, so it grew over and provided shelter for deer, rabbits, and the occasional groundhog.
